Game Crashes Immediately After Launch

I've tried reinstalling the game, disabling the Steam overlay, and manually setting the launch resolution to 800x600, but the game will not launch successfully.

I get a black screen briefly before being kicked back to the desktop.

I've verified I have the latest video drivers installed.

I apologize for the inconvenience. Please first try Verifying your Game Cache, then restart the game, and see if you are able to successfully play. If you still experience the issue, please also make sure that your current sound device is not outputting to 5.1 Surround Sound. If it is, please try switching your sound output to 2.1, or Stereo (Left and Right Speakers) and then try restarting the game.

  • Hi Mike,

I just performed the steps you outlined and was unsuccessful. I've even unplugged all sound devices with no luck.

Please also make sure that you have disabled any anti-virus or internet firewall programs open and running when attempting to run the game, as they may be blocking the game's access to the internet. You can also try running the game As An Administrator by right clicking the game's icon on your desktop, and clicking Run As Administrator, or you can try running the game in a Compatibility Mode (we recommend Windows 98/ME)

  • I've tried all of the above and received errors stating my account was not authorized when trying in compatibility mode. If it matters, I see a brief "check signal cable" error right before the game crashes, and when launched from another PC using teamviewer it alters the resolution of my PC to MUCH smaller, so it appears it might be video related. I've already reinstalled my video drivers with no luck.

Can you please clarify if you were previously able to play the game, or has the game always crashed when you attempt to launch it? You may be experiencing this issue because your file directory for the game is located in the default location on your C:\ drive, while the game, and Steam is installed on your D:\ drive. I recommend try re-creating your save file directory located here:

    C:\Users\Collier\Documents\Telltale Games\Game of Thrones

on your D:\ drive using the same file/folder setup, and then try running the game again.
