Moment that captures Monkey Island for you?

edited July 2009 in Tales of Monkey Island
I think this scene from The Curse of Monkey Island summarises what I love about the series so much. It's funny, scary, smart, has excellent art, music, acting*, and writing.

LeChuck's boots.

*does not apply to MI1 + 2, duh :)
Sufferin' sailors, 'tis good to be dead

    MI2, the
scene where Guybrush revives Rapp Scallion.
It's dark and very funny at the same time.

The image that jumped into my head when someone mentioned MI over the last 9 years (well, before June this year) was the first meeting with Largo at the beginning of MI2. It was the first MI game I played and it grabed me from that moment.

SoMI when Guybrush finds the treasure of Melee Island

I loved the part in MI2 when
Guybrush meets his parents under the big tree and they sing the bone song.
It completely shocked me at first, then I found my self laughing loudly. I don't usually laugh out loud. Unless I'm watching The Chaser.

The opening music that plays on the Lucasfilm Games logo on MI1.

    The Secret of Monkey Island
    - The beginning. "My name is Guybrush Threepwood and I want to be a pirate." says it all.
    - Sailing to Monkey Island with the crew
    - Watching LeChuck explode in the sky

    LeChuck's Revenge
    - Scabb Island as a whole. Great atmosphere.
    - Making the voodoo doll (I love the 'Something of the dead..." rhyme)
    - The weird stuff that starts happening at the end like the skeletons of Guybrush' parents suddenly appearing.

    The Curse of Monkey Island
    - The entire opening sequence
    - LeChuck's reanimation animation (har har)
    - Blood Island and the Goodsoup tale

    Escape from Monkey Island
    - The music in the cutscenes
    - The many nods to SMI
    - The humor
    - Although I do agree that the giant monkey robot is a bit too much, I liked that the ending was so epic

This, for the awesome atmosphere and swashbuckling feel, and this because it's so funny.

    In general, insult sword fighting.

In SMI the Three Trials; the conversation you have with the pirates at the Scumm Bar, the clever and amusing puzzles you go through to complete them, and exploring Melee Island as a whole. I think that beginning really gives the player a good insight on the whole series.

    Also in CMI,
spiking your drink, faking your own death and finding Stan in the coffin.
A perfect example of how Monkey Island can get dark humour across so wonderfully.

Another one in SMI would be
"how to get a-head in navigating."
