Cannot download E4 - usual workaround not working

Dear reader/Telltale,

For every single new episode that has been released thus far, I have had to force the game to download by moving my save folder and replacing after reopening the application (playing on PC). This time, however, it's not working. I move the folder, load the game, I get the splash screen, I 'click to begin' then the screen goes blank and all I can see is the cursor.

I do not have this problem when I load the game with my save folder in tact, but of course then the DLC doesn't fire.

My specs are fine. More than fine. My network is fine. So what have you guys messed up now?

EDIT: The Mod didn't tell me he'd moved the thread so, being unsure, I created this one:

I am not Telltale staff so i can't offer technical advice but i recommend posting your issue in the Support forums, as someone has already created a thread about the same thing so you can post in there and hopefully @TelltaleMike will be able to help once he gets into the office in the morning.

  • That's not the same.

  • I had the same problem as you and found that it fixed itself by reinstalling my game again, but now when I try to download episode 4, my game just crashes. Hopefully that helps?

  • So when you reinstalled the game EP 4 ACTUALLY WAS SUCCESSFULLY DOWNLOADED ON PC?

  • Oh no, I meant that I was able to get past the said black screen people keep getting by reinstalling my game. Now when I try and install episode 4, it says "updating content" and then my game just crashes. :/ sigh

Same issue, moving the folder didn't do anything for me so now I'm trying to reinstall it. :(

Edit: Also have never had this issue with previous episodes. :x

Edit 2: It worked, currently downloading episode 4. :D

I guess I'll reinstall my game again then, and see if it works this time around D: thanks for the update!
Update: that helped nothing at all, my game still crashes when attempting to download episode 4, :(

  • :( I'm not really that tech-wizzy so I don't really know what can cause that, but hopefully Telltale will come with a real fix soon!

We have resolved this particular issue with a server side update. Please exit/close out of the game (Make sure it is fully closed) then start the game again while connected to the internet, and the game will automatically update and allow you to successfully download and play the new episode. If it does not work the first time, you can also try restarting your computer, then starting the game again.
