well...i really enjoyed playing...dont like waiting a month to play the next chapter cause at my age months are are a very long time...and time is not exactly on my side. I turned 58 last Monday...and if I am lucky enuf I might get too see MI 6...think while I am waiting I will replay the previous MI games.
The downloaded file was timestamped at 12:38 pm (europe and played through to about 16:30. So about 4 hours. I wasn't really stuck on any puzzle and wasn't rushing either. I've tried to hear all lines from each character, sometimes letting them say their lines twice. The puzzles that took longest were:
- Getting the pirate off the ship
- The news stories (realizing I had to fake the doll)
- The idols (cheese imprints, didn't know I could take the cheese off the idols again)
- The map instuctions (took me a while that the pictures on the maps actually mean something so the first one I did by trial and error
- Escaping the doctor
Really laughed at the U-Tube thing, you tube LOL!
I guess having played all the other versions as well as W&G and S&M I think that helped a bit knowing how puzzles are to be solved and how the puzzles are constructed. But MI C1 puzzles are slightly different from the usual S&M and W&G puzzles fortunately. I've found this chapter to be easier than W&G or S&M so far because I usually need one or two hints in every episode but not this time. I've found S&M and W&G frustrating sometimes and needed to do them in 2 or 3 sessions on different days to keep it fun. MI C1 was fun all the way through and not a second frustrating to me.
I clocked in at about 4 and a half hours or thereabouts in a single sitting (including two trips to the hint forum both times I actually got totally stuck!) Not bad at all. Definately looking forward the next one.
I think this is an excellent time-to-money ratio! I'm estimating I'll get, what, 20-25 hours entertainment out of TMI (not including the eventual and inevitable replays somewhere down the line!) for about a quid an a hour. That's about what I got out of Knights of the Old Republic one and two respectively (for one playthrough anyway). Which is very nice for a graphic adventure. I recently ran through Discworld Noir again (I blame Telltale for getting me all adventure-game hyped up with TMI!) and I bet it didn't take much more than half that total.
I played through it a second time and it took an hour. I wonder how many times I'll play it this month...? Maybe I should take a brake and play though one (or both) of the Sam & Max seasons?
I couldn't tell you how long it took me to finish the game. I don't understand people's need to time themselves when playing games for the first time, especially adventure games. To me, this leads to people rushing the game and reducing the enjoyment by trying to be the person who completes the game the quickest. In my opinion, the winners of this race are also the losers of it.
I'm not saying that everyone posting here has rushed the game. I'm just trying to stop this thread encouraging someone to rush a future episode.
I love how some puzzles are the easy for some and the tricky ones for others. Lighting the cannonball didn't even seem like a puzzle to meas it was the only flame I had seen. (Actually, I huess if you tried the chain AFTER the plank and not again it may have been trickier)
Also about 4 hours. I'm confused on the hints setting though because I thought I had it turned all the way down but it kept giving me really obvious hints on a few of the puzzles. It's not very clear whether the hints are all the way off or all the way up.
Yeah I thought this too. I had already figured it out but when Guybrush said how noisy the jungle was it bugged me.
Played it over 3 nights, about an hour or two each night.
I got stuck a few times - but only once seriously - and had to /eventually/ come to these forums for help.
I didn't realise you had to use the map on the well to start the first map puzzle. I was just starting at the well and following the noises...
Other than that, it was just a "try everything with everything" thing sometimes The hint system was useful at some points when I got stuck, but mostly I had it off.

I hear you; I'm 57. Look on it as an incentive to go on living!
I dragged the game out over two days, just to savor it. Got stuck with the maps both times. Found a strange little glitch; big yellow polygons that start radiating off Guybrush's cursed hand if you keep wandering around without starting at the well.

Nice job, folks. Roll on chapter two!
There were a lot of smiles and a few laughs - I especially liked Guybrush's impersonation of Wallace.
Hats off to Telltale - they made a really good job of keeping adventure gaming alive. I hope they ply their Voodoo Juju for many years to come.
Thanks guys.
That was brilliant, Monkey Island is fully alive again!
Favourite quotes anyone? Mine would be:
"It's amazing how many of life's problems are solved by indiscriminate cannon fire."

Me too, I had feared less gameplay.

Very fun, very beautiful, and highly enjoyable
