My game isn't working, any ideas?

My laptop meets all the requirements needed to run the game, but whenever I go to launch it, the launcher 'stops working', and windows closes the game. Has anyone else had this problem?

Aye, I had the "has stopped responding" error once, then after that I get a message stating there has been an unrecoverable error and that I should make sure the game is run from its installation directory.

Trying to figure it out as we speak...

Well, I launched the game from installation directory (MonkeyIsland101.exe) so it seems there is a problem with the link on my start menu. Might be a Win 7 related issue as I'm running the RC.

    Edit:
Aaaand we're back to "not responding" :P
Gonna try a reinstall on original installation path and see if it solves anything.

I've reinstalled, restarted, checked for all possible updates I could need and nothing... sob! So depressing, I need my Guybrush fix!

Let me know if you get anywhere, thanks for your response.

Well, so far I'm down to this:

Screen resolution to 1024x768 seems to make me able to run the game.
Changing resolution ingame is a no-no, as it crashes it again.

Reinstalling the game running as administrator does nothing.

Updating DirectX and graphic drivers does nothing.

Link in Windows Games seems to point to the wrong directory, game cannot be launched from here.

All of the above is experienced on Windows 7 RC1 Build 7100. One might say: You're running a not yet released OS and normally I would agree, but this problem seems to stretch wider than that.

I was able to install this morning but ran out of time to have a quick play before leaving for work.
    I'm running W7 x64 RC1 and noticed a couple of problems.

The first was the DirectX requirement, I've been running old and new games so far without having to change DirectX but ToMI required the DirectX option in the setup to complete before it would launch.

The second was changing the resolution, it stopped responding and crashed to the desktop a couple of times before it stuck and it's now running on 1920x1200 as per my standard screen size.

Thirdly, and I'm not sure if this is by design but it's the first program so far that doesn't create a folder in the start menu, is there really nothing else to access other than the single shortcut? It took a while to find the program due to this as it was buried in games - like I say, that could be by design. :D

My game isn't working either, I've downloaded it from steam, and I have the same crash trouble. I'm running Win XP SP3, tried to reinstall and launch it from it's own directory but nothing, I have the same truble with the wallace and gromit episode 1

Running the game and playing a little with windows screen resolution set to 1024x768 made me able to change the ingame resolution to 1900x1200. After that it worked perfectly to put windows resolution back to native as well.

Now the game seems to run flawlessly...go figure :P

Just posted this elsewhere but having the exact same problem. Just reinstalling for 2nd time. My Wallace and Gromit was accessible through the start menu, but Monkey Island hasn't ended up in there, don't understand why. Same black screen with nothing running. Any advice would be REALLY appreciated.

Even taken the resolution all the way down to 800 now, though it's the same as 1024 - I can get as far as the start game menu now with the Tales of Monkey Island board on the right with candles on top and quite slow flames. There's what appears to be writing but it's in very odd blocks, which is strange as the rest of the picture looks great - as clear as Monkey 3 did. I can move the mouse and an invisible cursor seems to be moving in responce but very slowly, as occassionally the chequred blocks highlight. It's really frustrating.

I'd just like to say thanks to whoever suggested changing the screen resolution. Mine was giving me the old 'Telltale Games has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.' but changing the resolution down to 1024x768 has got it running. My laptop's not exactly great so I'm running the game on 640x480 but at least it's working!

Fingers crossed it stays that way.

It keeps getting to the end of the opening credits then crashing for me.
Rather frustrating, as I cannot progress.

serweet, have you tried lowering the game graphics from the default of 6 to 1? that got me past the opening credits, but it's still very laggy.

To no avail, it still crashes after Ron Gilberts name fades away.

I experienced the exact same problem and I'm also running Windows 7. Seems like it's not a classic shortcut as you can't see its properties by right-clicking it.
Anyway, the game worked fine for me once launched from the .exe.

I'm having exactly the same problem :(

When you install the game.. its best to choose the DirectX option as yes or whatever it is as in allow them to check it even if you know youre up to date

    trust me

Have installed latest Direct X but still can't get past the menu page - looking at it there's probably not a huge frame rate delay as the flames on the candles seem to be fine, just those darn odd colour blocks.

Same here: the candles, the colorblocks. Changing the screen size didn't change anything. :(

I'm using Vista, and I have the admin access on full-blast. I don't know enough about computers to figure this out myself beyond that.

This is a screenshot. It doesn't go beyond this.
