Awesome file size

edited July 2009 in Tales of Monkey Island
Hey all.

I'm sure you all noticed the tiny file size. I mean, 188MB?

The game had a lot in there, and ín a telltale induced puzzle game frenzy I bought Muzzled, and it's like 465MB.

I'm guessing it's cos Wallace and Gromit has more character models? And the levels are more detailed?

It's strange, I played TOMI and not once did I think the game felt bare or empty, every area was pretty awesome, and there was heaps to look at and examine. Probably more stuff to look at than Wallace too.

Whatever the reason, the small file size is awesome and appreciated by me!

Yes, agreed! More and more companies don't seem to care about the filesize and just release the game even though it's around 7GB. I can see that Telltale did a great job with the filezise, and I'm really happy about what they did. I think this actually is quite important.

As you said I couldn't notice that ToMI felt bare or empty either, they probably just did a great job.

    Agreed!
I've been sort of replaying Sam & Max, and although the file sizes are similar, TOMI is really top-notch quality.

It had a lot of varied environments, and although the map of Flotsam Island probably could have used a bit more polish (but the sign in the bottom right was awesome!), it never felt stripped.

How on earth did they manage it?

yeah to be honest I was worried about the file size. Being less than half of walace and gromit I was expecting the quality to be low.. however it felt fine!

Will be interesting to see how the Wiiware limit of 40mb affects the game....

true that, that is going to be the only way that i can play the game so i am very concerned about the quality of the wii version.

Does anybody know how big the strongbad file size was for pc?

Looks like they ranged from a low of 69 to a high of 108 mb.

A lot of people are talking about the sound being compressed too much.. i didnt notice it.. but if that is true.. i guess sound was what they had to attack to compress it to a sexy size

Amazing quality for the size. I also did not notice any issues with the sound. I am running a sound blaster xfi card with a 5.1 setup.

agreed... i was surprised but pleased...
With my wimpy hard drive, i hated having to find stuff to delete so i could get the new sam & max episodes. Didn't have to do that for this one :)

The 40MB limit is the compressed download package only. Once it's downloaded onto the Wii the file size is bigger.

I wonder if they reused some of the palm trees in the jungle or modeled them all individually :D
    j/k
