Crash on the very beginning of episode 1

edited July 2015 in Game of Thrones

Good evening,

I've just recently purchased The Game of Thrones Series through Steam as I was intending some time ago. The game started with no problems at all and then I proceeded to the first episode.
As soon as I go get the wine with Bowen and we speak to the Frey soldier and my character turns back to Bowen my game crashes. It's always at the same spot.
Sometimes I can hear sounds, as it was a memory issue, but that can't be it, since I've got many games (that'll consume much more memory than GoT) and they didn't have this issue on them.
I did try to install the critical patch, but as soon as I executed the program (as determined by the instructions on another topic) it states that "Game of Thrones was not found on your system". I've also tried to execute the game as an Admin and many other procedures, but it keeps crashing. My suport tool report is as following:

Please, do help me!

The game keeps crashing for me every time Bowen said 'Don’t expect me to carry it for you, ser Gared' I've tried changing the settings and reinstalling the game but it still crashes.

  • Same happening to me there buddy. That's so frustrating!

I apologize for the inconvenience. Please first try Verifying your Game Cache, then restart the game, and see if you are then able to progress past that point in the episode. If you still experience the issue, you can also try updating your graphics card's drivers to the latest version, then start the game.

If the issue persists, it may be related to a sound settings issue. Try going to the settings on your Sound Unit (Whether it be headphones, or speakers) and see if it is currently set to 5.1 Surround. If so, try switching it to only two sound units (Left and Right speakers) instead of (All Around) and then start the game again, and see if your issue is resolved.

  • It worked! Thanks a lot for the support! =D

You're welcome, enjoy the game! For future reference, could you please clarify which option it was that worked for you, or did you try a combination of the three at once?

I've tried all of the steps, but I've confirmed that's indeed an issue with the Sound Unit. I use speakers and I've checked that it was necessary to divide it into 2 units, as mentioned above, so that the game won't crash on this part. I've managed to finish all chapters without any other issue after that. Thanks again!
