For those who played with hint frequency

SHAME ON YOU :p

Actual Question - How did it work? I mean how were the hints given?
and were the hints easy peasy?

I just left the game on default settings, which had moderate hints thrown in from time to time. Essentially, Guybrush will occasionally say something like

"Maybe I should go and explore the ____," which doesn't tell you what to do, but will point you in the right direction, which can be rather nice.

Well, I pushed the hint frequency back and forth from time to time, result was that I got some minor hints when I did not need them and got no hints when I needed hem :P

I only turned it on once when I got stuck, and it pointed me in the direction of the ship, even though the ship had nothing to do with the remaining puzzles in the game. I'm not sure how that happened.
