Why is it not fullscreen?

edited July 2009 in Tales of Monkey Island
Does anyone else not have this in fullscreen????
For me its basically letter-boxed top and bottom and left and right (so basically 80% of fullscreen.

    That's a very good question.
Less than 80% here too, the letterboxes were pretty huge. (on my 4:3 monitor. Have yet to try it on one of the widescreens)

    Change the resolution. :)

there is no resolution option in the game!
How am i supposed to do that!

Telltale has been moving toward a more cinematic experience starting with Wallace and Gromit. The widescreen view allows them more freedom to frame shots how they want them and to keep them consistent no matter what size monitor/television you play on. There is no fullscreen option.

Go to settings, then video options, then you see a list of different resolutions. :)

Um, go to settings, graphics settings, resolution?

No its cool - You can go fullscreen! I thought the game would auto select the resolution.... I guess not

If anyone has problems with selecting the right resolution.... On the left it shows a box of what it will look like.... the blacked out sections means its going to reduced (ie letterboxed vertically or horizontally)

I have a 16:10 native 1680 x 1050 monitor. when I set the game to 1680 x 1050, I still get small black bars on top and bottom. Is this normal? Was this game's aspect ratio fixed at 16:9?

if you have a 4:3 monitor, there is always letterboxes.

I'm hoping the people from Telltale will be reading this thread because there's a returning issue wich I would like to adress. You see, ever since the begining there has been a limited choice of resolutions. I was happy to see that Wallace and Grommit had a wide range of resolutions, including widescreen 1280 * 768. For me, that's very important because my PC is hooked up with my widescreen Hi-Def TV. It doesn't handle very many resolutions and non widescreen resolutions are smeared over the screen. It works, but isn't very nice or pleasant.
I hoped that all games following W&G would incorporate these resolutions, but it seems Monkey Island doesn't! I think it's a pity, and I hope these will be added in the future...

I think it is, I also get black bars when i use a 16:10 resolution on my 16:10 monitor. But no black bars when I use a 16:9 resolution.

I also can't find a way to play in full screen aspect ratio.

I have a normal monitor not a wide screen and this is what I get in the options screen

    rez.jpg

This is what i see on screen

    screen.jpg

This is really annoying. Why cant I play in full screen.
  • edited July 2009
Well I'd say that it's 16:9 then and no amount of fiddling will change that :)

Playing on 1440x900 on a 2 year old dell inspiron 1520 running on Win7 with the latest nVidia Drivers.

I think those who have resolution problems should go and check for their 3D card. I know that the latest nVidia Drivers changed a LOT of things.

    Hoped I could help

    Thogreg

PS: I may install it on my wife's laptop today see if it can run on 1680x1050

I assume it is so that everyone sees the same area of the screen. I think i read that somewhere before. This way they don't have to worry about what is visible to some users and what not.

Edit: I found the confirmation for the same issue in the Wallace & Gromit Forum.

Okay, I'm going to break this down for you guys with 4:3 monitors.

This is what you guys see in a 4:3 resolution.
You're getting the exact same view as everyone else, but with added black bars on the top and bottom.
    screen.jpg

If Telltale had natively supported 4:3, your view area would be
chopped off on the left and right sides, and you'd see something like this.
    picture.php?albumid=245&pictureid=1716

If the viewing area was stretched so you had no black bars, it would look like this.
    picture.php?albumid=245&pictureid=1718

And if the black bars were replaced by, per imagination,
what should be in the black space, this is what you would have.
(Sorry for the crappiness of the image!)

I'd have gone for the last solution (and designed it with 16:9 in mind and kept all important clickable objects out of the extended region)

If the entire area that would have been in behind the letterboxes was uninteractive, there would be no point to it. The widescreen look is the what they're going for intentionally.

stop grumbling. I don't have a wide screen tv, so when i watch wide screen films i don't complain.
