Well, unlike Telltale's other games, this is basically one huge game split into 5 parts rather than self-contained episodes so that might be why they are encouraging the entire season purchase, but I would expect them to allow single episode purchases pretty soon.

The episodes aren't free-standing storywise this time so they don't really work as stand-alone products. If they allowed people to buy, say, just episode 3, people would get a product that didn't rally make sense on its own. So that's why I think they're not doing it.

But that could change if people really want individual eps.

If I recall, past TellTale games were the same thing, at first one only could purchase the whole season, but shortly after release you could also purchase individual episodes. There's no reason to assume they won't be doing the same, it doesn't matter the story structure... it's their business model. Just be patient.
