Graphical Settings Question

Whats the differences in the numbered graphical settings.. I have the screen resolution at 1280x1024 and the only differences I notice are from option 4-9 the game moves a little laggy and 1-3 its smooth as a babys...

The only thing is, between options 1-9 I notice no visual changes.. at all =S

    The changes, from what I have seen, is about lightning and how brilliant/reflective etc. some objects/places are.

    And dropping the level beyond 7 kills the F4 function (just tested it).
