Raid on Craster's Keep

Cotter and Finn seem to have forgotten that they'd volunteered for the raid on Craster's Keep, and stayed back. Is there a reason, or is this another of the many plot holes in the game?

    Well after Gared being accused of murdering a brother and sentenced to death I imagine they chose to skip it and tried to help him out.

    This is the way for Jon Snow to stay involved with Gared.. Hopefully.

    I told him my secret so maybe he can help me find the north grove lol
