Tales MI Fan Feedback

Ok :) Ive been playing Tales of Monkey Island for a good 10 Mins now, but Ive been playing Monkey Island for 15 years so I just want to get some fan feedback off my chest before I just get used to the new interface and give up on any hopeful ideas that the world I live in will change to my super requirements.

The pictures say it all really;

I wasnt really a fan of MI3 inventory either I tolerated MI4's

It's Point And 'Click' .. Not Point And Drag

and finally I dont like the text where it says something like ' Really Elanes Mothers in town' and then gybrush says 'really how so?' or something like that if the option for Gybrush to be rude appears , i want him to be rude lol.

It would be cool if everyone agreed with me and the overwhelming pressure would change this and future chapters before the DVDs get burned :)

Despite these piffiling suggestions I just want to say a HUGE thankyou to Telltale games (for getting the rights from those other lazy producers who keep me waiting for years on end to see another MI game) and for bringing MI back (would love to see another Grim Fandango and maybe a remake of MI1 + 2 + 3 in this kind of 3D ... way better than MI4) Look forward to the rest of the episodes & MonkeyIsland Special Edition this summer

x

The huge black bars are for compensating widescreen, which is nice for those who have it(I don't, by the way.)
And I dug the mouse control, quite likeable once you get used to it.

We've talked enough about the controls for now.

About the "wasted space". I didn't know you'd get black bars on 4/3 screens, that could definitely be solved better, but keep in mind that a modern game has to be widescreen compatible, so nothing at the top or bottom that takes up valuable screen space.

But it would be really, really cool if the final episode would include a "classic mode". Just for the heck of it. Not that it will ever happen, but what if there was some secret item, that when used would change the interface and load a low-tech cartoon shader. I'm obviously dreaming now :)

The widescreen gives it more of a movie feeling; so I'm fine with it. I prefer widescreen in movies; so I like to see it in adventure games as well.

The arrow was glaring at first; but I got used to it; we should remember this is a video game. It kind of felt like a compass/interface in itself.

I got around the widescreen configuration by running the game in 1280x720. It looks a bit stretched, but it removes the black bars at the top and bottom of the screen.

PS. I plan to buy a widescreen monitor before Chapter 2 comes out.

I liked the black bars. It felt like I was watching a widescreen movie on a not-quite widescreen TV. I'm not sure why, but that just felt more engaging to me.

i only agree with your point and drag one

but that still doesnt matter to me

I like to use WASD SHIFT one anyways so didnt mind the point and drag

Am I the only one who can play in 4:3 full screen? I don't know why people have these letterboxing issues.

This is how it looked for me (actual screenshot I took):

    No black bars

Oh, apparently this is something they changed in the 5 days between the reviewable and the final game. That's too bad. I wonder why.

I would have loved the old interface. Bring back push/pull!

    "I can't push that.'
    "I can't pull that."

    Classic.

You're right, point and click is a much better system, but once you get used to it, point and drag isn't bad.

The classic interface for 4:3 screens would be nice, though obviously it couldn't have all the text interface stuff. Kind of a lot of work for minimal benefit though.

I'd love to see a permanently displayed inventory at the bottom of the screen, but I'd hate to see the return of the verb buttons. It'd be nice if you could just click on one inventory item and then click on another to combine them, rather than having to place the two items into the two "combine" slots and click on the combine button.
