Anyone Else Pissed About ****'s Story? "I got lucky"

edited March 2014 in The Walking Dead

I said this before Episode 2 came out. I wouldn't mind if Kenny came back, but he had to have a really good story on how he's not dead! What did we get? "I got lucky".

What a cop out Telltale! Seriously are more people annoyed about this?

I wouldn't say I'm annoyed, I'm just very curious. I assume they will touch on this more in the next episode, but I don't know. I can say, though, that in another thread we looked at images of the alley, and there were multiple windows as well as doors he could have entered. When Christa is looking over the edge the walkers are all standing as well, meaning they weren't eating him. Based on that it was possible, but like he said, he got very lucky.

  • Yes. Beyond the petty gifs and memes you are going to get there are actually people looking for good and proper story. This was a terrible, terrible attempt at an emotion resurrection tale.

How did you get out of Savannah???

"I never should have gotten out of Savannah. "

    Oh, okay.

  • Sarita said she found Kenny "holed up" in an abandoned restaurant, and weakened to the point where "he couldn't lift a fly." I think that's enough information for the time being.

Keep in mind we still have three more episodes to go.

  • always complaining, aren't we? We got a 16 months time skip and you are bitching about Kenny not being too detailed? I bet we will get our chance at unveiling the past, but for now just calm your tits.

I sat with Luke as well but my heart broke when I saw Kenny's face and my sister was like "Why did you do THAT!?" It just felt like his return was half baked and an after thought. I wanted his story to have more oomph, idk. as Viva said, some of us want a really strong story.

  • The explanation felt a bit... You know, I expected a more detailed answer since Im one of the people who think they were planning his return since the end of Season 1 but Im not gonna hate on Telltale for little things, Im happy he's back and the episode was great.

  • No need for that, I just wanted to know exactly how he got out of the alleyway, or hole (which ever one you got)

  • That's true, it was probably the best episode of the whole series so far, imo

  • I want one too, and I feel like we'll get it next episode. While I do believe it was possible for him to have survived based on the evidence that got reviewed in some other thread, I would still like for him to give his full account. If we don't get one next episode, or at all, I'll agree with you that it being kept a secret is pretty lame. For now though, I'll enjoy his return, and hope for the explanation we all want in next episode.

  • I would hope to learn more about how Kenny escaped and the terrible state he was in when Sarita found him in the next few episodes. Those are two huge loose ends that I just don't think they can leave dangling.

If they don't give us any more details than "I got lucky" and a pained expression of silence, I will be disappointed by the writers.

  • I'm with SaltLick in that I was fully expecting his return as well. For me it's tied with No Time Left, I can't make up my mind which I enjoyed more.

Maybe Sarita can fill us in on that in the next episode. I'd be a good way to develop her character more as well.

  • My favorite is Starved for Help, But A House Divided is a close second.

What did you expect him to say? Well after the first walker attacked me I dodged it at a 360 Degrees Angel. After that, I rolled under the second one and banged on a trash can thus luring the walkers too me. Than I threw a Bananna peal at them to slow them down but not before I lost my hat and hat to go back to the first walker to get it this time turning and dodging at a 90 Degrees Angel. I got it back and pulled boards off a window with limited strength so I wouldn't waste it all. Clem? You followin all this? Clem? Clem is asleep.

This probably will get downvoted, but seriously people... Stop bitching about the lack of information about Kennie's survival ! Jesus, you JUST met him after a long time - he won't start telling you absolutely everything he experienced that same evening. Guy had probably been in hell of a trouble, give him a break. Also, he expected and wanted you to stay with him, so he probably would've told you later, if things wouldn't have gone to shit. I'm sure theme about him will be developed later, maybe in the next episode. No need to act like this explanation about getting lucky is the most we'll know about this thing.

    Thank you!

  • I don't agree with those who are disappointed with the lack of information, but I understand where they are coming from. The only reason we love TWD is because of the writing, right? They view lack of information as bad writing and are worried they'll lose their only reason to love TWD. Season 1 is my favourite game ever and thinking of Telltale taking a nosedive in terms of writing quality is agonising, so I can empathize. They are being presumptous, but that's a testament to their attachment to Telltale's writing.

  • Exactly it felt like the only explanation is he just "pushed" himself out of that alleyway/dark room which he considered as "being lucky". I doubt the past will be touched more in the forthcoming episode with the whole Carver situation, but maybe they will have a chance to talk about it when in the preview they are shown sitting in some sort off prison cell.

  • What about the people disappointed with the entire event of Kenny reappearing?

And it was silly to think you will get down voted for defending Kenny, the posts like mine are the ones that will feel the wrath of the down votes :p

  • But if it is all we get to know, then it's a blight on TellTale's record of good writing, as far as I'm concerned. Or at least in the Ben scenario. I always thought the Christa scenario made more sense as there had to be a way down from that floor of the building, meaning more ways for Kenny to get out. The alleyway was impossible to get out of, and certainly impossible to get out of and not be noticed by the trio on the rooftop, and to pass it off as just luck is ridiculous. I mean, granted, there's no other way he could have survived other than luck, but it doesn't stop it from being ridiculous.

I wasn't asking for the entire recounting of what happened between then and now, just a bit more of an explanation on his survival than "I got lucky."

If he hinted at wanting to tell the whole story later it'd be one thing, but I think that was all the clarification that we're getting.

  • While they do have a point the answer from Kenny felt a bit... I don't know rushed you could say ? Its not a big deal, People are hating on Telltale for little things instead of focusing on the great story we have in front of us. I don't think him explaining how he avoided getting bitten from each of the 50-60 zombies he was surrounded with would've changed the story at all or be of Clementine's interest but its their opinion and Im not gonna knock anyone off for having one of those.

  • I'm interested in what happened to him afterwards. They didn't just put that pained silence in there for nothing. It's going to matter at some point, at least It should...

I mean... did he look for us afterwards? Did he meet up with other people? Did he become a loaner kinda like Michonne and just roam about randomly like a living walker? Did he wind up giving up at some point, just sitting down to die, nearly starving and found almost dead (which is why Sarita says what she said)?

It's pretty important to know answers to these questions if we want to really understand his character and have a better sense of what to expect from him. Kenny is clearly a changed man, I just think some people are really impatient to hear the details about how he survived losing everything because it will help us know where he's coming from (and if we can trust him or not).

There's nothing wrong with griping about the "I got lucky" explanation if it just reminds TTG's that these kinds of details are interesting character backstory to explore. I think the "I got lucky" and pained silence when talking about these topics are dead giveaways that they will be huge points in Kenny's actions/character development as the story continues. It just seems like too big of an omission, which is why I can understand if people are worried TTG will just gloss over those details.

  • You make some good points , Everyone wants to know more about what happened to him AFTER Savannah I mean , Who wouldn't ? I don't think anyone is satisfied with knowing he was holed up in an old restaurant, The only problem we've got here is people are not complaining about his whereabouts or what he went through after getting separated from the group they are complaining because they want to know exactly how he survived the alleyway or whatever, That's a completely different story IMO

Valid points, BUT, they point to a glaring double standard that glosses over the fatal flaw behind this entire game. The question here is why people are (rightly) unforgiving not to allow themselves to ignore this vacuous absence of any narrative context to endow some sense, substance, and plausibility to Kenny's forced reintroduction, but are overly eager to ignore or dismiss the case entirely in respect to our recycled, new and improved T-1000 model protagonist here whose character and story have had to take on the full brunt of this shoddy writing treatment.
