I had previously beaten the game, on the same computer.
Most recently, I had played and completed Episode 6 (first save file), Episode 1 (second save file), and Episode 7 (first save file).
Does that mean anything, or...?

Apologies for my confusion, it seems as though your file directories are all set correctly, so it is not a save file issue. Below are a few possible solutions:
1) Ensure you have the latest drivers
2) Restart your system
3) Unplug your gamepad (and all other USB devices other than keyboard/mouse)
6) Run the game in compatibility mode (We recommend Windows 98/ME)
7) Reinstall the game
8) Make sure that the Steam application is not set to a compatibility mode (right click on steam and click properties, then check compatibility, and make sure that it is not checked to play in a different OS)
Unfortunately, none of those worked. However, I checked to see if starting a new game would still allow me to play Episode 2, and it did. Because this is the second time playing (in other words, not the save file I care about), and I don't mind restarting again (as I've only finished Episode 1 on my second save file), I'll just delete it and play again.
