What makes the TWD game so good?

edited April 2014 in The Walking Dead

Well, I just joined the forum today. This seemed like a good topic to start off with.
For me, I'd have to say the aspect of choice, and how you can grow your characters whatever way you like, realistically. For example, everyone tries to be heroic Lee in their first playthrough, but then you die laughing when Lee acts like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zdtAlcEclbk This is due to Telltale's amazing writers :) Also, the art style is just amazing. So, that's my opinion, what makes TWD good for you guys?

    And then some.

  • Knowing that how you react to situations causes the characters to respond accordingly is very appealing in a game. It shows that however you want to play is the way for you.

There are plenty of reasons, but there's no denying this one. Experiencing the ups and downs of Lee and Clementine's story arc was one of the apexes of emotional storytelling for me.

Lee had enough personality and passion to be his own character while still reflecting my morality, and Clementine's still one of the best written child characters I've ever seen.

  • What makes it good: the story in making us care about the characters, but actually getting us involved in the story by having the player choose what to say and make decisions. That's what has TWDG it stand out from a lot of games out there where you're just watching cutscenes and nothing more.

That's maybe why I'm a little sad that in season 2, we've yet to get the time to just go up to a character and talk to them for about ten minutes straight asking them a bunch optional questions. I feel like I knew more about the group by the end of episode 2 in the first season than I did this one, but then again the story is structured differently to have a bit of mystery behind it, and you are playing from Clementine perspective so it's not like she's gonna go quizzing everybody like Lee did.

Nothing actualy. In fact, this game is just a cheap ripoff of Activision's " The Walking Dead - Survival Instinct ". Here is a short review, i wrote about this amazing game (Survival Instinct).

The art, too, is wonderfully realised, both making the world a dangerous but curious place, and giving a great deal of life to the characters. Just look at the characters expressiveness even without words. It plays right into the hands of its comic book counterpart, and leaves the story anything but lifeless. From the very beginning, the game sinks its teeth in and never lets you go. It's a journey in the truest sense of the word, replete with tragedy, heartache, tension, fear, and even brief moments of catharsis. Calling this game a work of entertainment almost seems like a misnomer, considering the heavy tone and general lack of sentimentality in the writing.
