why people like him more than luke

edited May 2014 in The Walking Dead
My personal opinion is that pople like kenny more than luke is because most people hold onto the past. Luke is a character made to be loved. He has done nothing wrong to clementine. The options when you can speak to luke is almost always nice with the exception of one bad one. I personally love the group and luke most of all. I also really like kenny

  • People like Kenny more because of the things he's done for Clementine. And the beard doesn't hurt either.
  • He somehow saved Clem and the cabin group when Luke fucked up his plan.Kenny also got the shit beat outta him and lost an eye for Clem.
  • I'm problably alone here not liking Kenny that much, I just think he could be a total b*** in season 1 if you didn't agree with him in every single thing. Luke all the way
  • agreed.

  • Kenny will do what ever it takes to survive .Luke , on the other hand, survives by running upstairs and hiding under the bed, while Carver kills/ kidnaps the group.

Kenny lost his eye for Cementine, that is really hard to exceed.

I support the fact that one can like both, these two don't need comparison.
  • I like him because he's a bastard and doesn't really like being told what to do.

Kenny ; Takes a beat down for Clem.Kills Carver.
Luke: Thinks that stealing cheese. crackers and a half of apple is more important than escaping.

He took a beating from Carver to protect Clem and lost his eye for her. He's a badass and knows what it takes to survive. And of course he has a godlike stache and beard. I like Luke too but Kenny is just better for me and not just because we know Kenny much longer than Luke.
  • No sir, i do not. :)

We get it. You do not like Luke.

  • I hated Kenny in S1 and hated him until Episode 3. Him taking a beating for Clem didn't make me 'like' him, but it made me tolerate him.
  • He didn't really do anything for her until this season and this last episode.

People like Kenny more because of the things he's done for Clementine. And the beard doesn't hurt either.

  • What? I dont remember that. He hid so he wouldn't be captured and could follow them later.

  • I guess I can go with that. I still don't like him but he did stick up for Clem. Not that I think Carver would have beat her that badly but he would have hurt her.

  • "Made to be loved" is my problem with Luke in the most part. He feels forced on you like you are made to like him. Although I may of ripped on him in the past for this stuff many people have said it is good he started to try and make some tough calls and stuff in episode 3 and even a few fuck ups because it makes his character more believable.
    The "I am your guardian because I've known you for a week" thing also gets on my nerves. But I won't go in depth with that one because I don't wanna get bashed ;__;

Kenny has been with us from the beginning, a lot of people would feel the same way they do with Luke about Kenny if the roles were to change.
  • Yeah, I really didn't care for Kenny in S1, but even I hugged him when he reappeared and sat with him at dinner because it was like going back to the past for a little bit and it was really powerful. But, overall, I prefer Luke, and I think he'll garner more fans and be able to compete a little more with Kenny if episode 4 focuses on him like 3 did on Kenny and we get to know him more.

Ugh, I'm so sick of seeing Kenny/Luke comparison threads all the time...
  • Not everyone likes Kenny over Luke
  • You know he hasnt eaten in days. Yeah, that stuff is important.

Sometimes I wonder why hardcore Kenny fans feel obligated to not like Luke or vice versa. Perhaps because of the expectation that we'll have to choose between them? I just don't see what's wrong with liking both or why we constantly have to compare them.

In all honesty, it's not really a fair comparison anyways. Compared to things we've seen Kenny do and Kenny's flaws, Luke is a fluffy wuffy kitten. They're very different characters. When I see Kenny fans talking about Luke's faults and reasons they don't like him, I have to laugh because half of what they dislike him for, Kenny has done MUCH worse.

I like both of these characters for different reasons but for now I do prefer Kenny. Not because he would be the "good one" or the "lovable one". I personally have kind of love-hate relationship with Kenny. He has plenty of flaws and can be very infuriating at times (in season 1 especially) but that's just the thing... He gets a reaction. I doubt he leaves hardly anyone cold. Some hate him, some love him but almost nobody I have talked with is indifferent about him. I myself have these moments when I want to smack him but also plenty of moments when I just want to hug the shit out of him.
Luke is the nicer and calmer one, that's for sure, and you don't have to tiptoe around him like you might do with Kenny... but that's exactly why I find Kenny more interesting. As a person he might not always be that appealing but as a character... heck yeah!
