What would be your ideal ZA society?
Who would rule this society? If you do, how would you rule it? If someone
else does, how would they rule it?
How would normal day-to-day activities occur? What would those activities be?
How would be this society be organized? Is it a laissez-faire, capitalistic society, or is it more bureaucratic, or is it socialist/Marxist? Is it centralized, or is it semi-feudal?
What would the military be? Would it be a more defensive militia/guard system or an offensive group of people going out and fighting walkers in campaigns?
Where would the society be located? Is it located in one place, or are there colonies with a main base, or is it a bunch of places working together?
What would you think happen to this society? Would it last long? If it gets destroyed, who does it? Walkers or humans?
If Clementine came to this society, would she like it, or would she hate it?

Honestly, I would love to just live in a simple country home with my family, like the St. Johns. Ya know, minus the cannibalism though.
My society would be on Alcatraz island, then you take the card out the hat and guess the type of society
" What would be your ideal ZA society? "
Boat?
Boat.
A desert island with just me and my family with no rules.
That sounds like a good idea, as someone who lives in the semi-boonies. But what about if other survivors come along?
That too.
That's a good question. Not sure really, maybe take them in, or scare them off with guns?
A democratic nice society where everyone gets rainbow guns and puppies?
This kind of stuff interests me, so I'll answer seriously.
.
It wouldn't be ruled by any one person. Major decisions would be made in a direct democratic process.
Day to day activities would be the same as any other community. Build defenses, try to grow food, maintain and keep stock of supplies.
The government style would be very low impact. It would supervise only the most important things (quartermaster, etc.) Trading would be knocked back to the barter system.
Everyone who can must be willing to pick up a gun and fight, if it comes to that. Defensive guards would rotate and volunteers would be sent out to scout and collect resources. No full time guards like Troy.
Not sure where it would be located.
Honestly, I have my doubts that any society could last very long without resorting to tyranny. Infighting would tear apart this kind of community.
Eh, Clementine would probably like the place...unless she stayed long enough to see it crumble around her.
I know this is all subjective and shit, but I don't exactly like the democratic process. Just my $.02. Anyway you have plans for emergency powers or gridlock over a subject?
a democracy but in order to get in you must:
1. be accepting of everyones ethnicity, religious beliefs, and where they come from.
2. know that religion will have no say in the towns rules or regulations.
3. be able to have basic skills in either farming, mechanical, schooling, technical, or be able to scavenge.
I ACTUALLY like the Governor's setup shown in The Walking Dead Season 3. Ya know, just minus the corrupt, psychotic leader.
I would take a katana and kill all the zombies in my city, because they're slow and weak. I don't see any possibility of ZA though, how the infection can even spread, when all the zombies are so lubber and easy to kill.
It would be a republic. There would be a leader, and the leader would set up the votes. We would have farmers, guards, repairmen, doctors, and scavengers, plus any obvious jobs I probably forgot. We would probably do what Tavia did and go out looking for people. When people first enter, we would have someone look over them for a while to make sure they do not steal anything or do anything else to damage the group. After a while, they would become official members of our group. We wouldn't kill innocent people, even if they are liabilities. Our goal would be to try and build a little society. That is all I could think of.
Hard to believe you with that Gravatar. :P Anyway, what about bite victims?
Yeah, kind of ironic, I'm talking about peace and happiness and my Gravatar is a psycho murderer XD . Anyway, we'd put them out of their misery.
Well, you see, that's the problem with pseudo-anarchaic democracy...I haven't the faintest fucking clue. That's part of the reason I doubt a free society can exist after the apocalypse, unless it's very small. Little, insular communities carry their own set of problems.
This is pretty much the set-up for the society I describe in my fanfic.
A large patch of farm with a few cabins around, surrounded by high concrete walls. Day-to-day life would involve working the fields, watching the surroundings for hoards of walkers, military exercises and some time for recreation. Scouts are sent out about once a month to gather any supplies and survey the surrounding area for signs of danger.
It would be run like a military camp, headed by one seasoned leader. The leader must be stern and pragmatic, but also fair. It's a position of trust. Pretty much everyone in the the society would have to be militaristic (i.e. willing to follow orders and able to fight). There may be a few children and such allowed, but only to extent that the food and supplies can support them.
It's basically just a nicer version of Crawford in the countryside.
Would Clem like this society if she came to it? Well...you can always read the fanfic to find out.
Honestly, the perfect ZA society would be the pre-ZA society. People vote for a leader or preferably a council (I'm imagining a small town), the army keeps things safe, there might be some small police force to keep peace and a separate judicial power (I think juries would be better than judges in this case). This is probably impossible to do, but I think it should be the ideal any post apocalyptic society should be aiming for since, the way I see it, humanity never lived better than now. I believe that, eventually, any "benevolent dictator" system is bound to fail either because the dictator will cease to be benevolent (if he ever was) or because, as soon as the dictator dies, his successor or successors won't be as pleasant.
I think I would consider a zombie apocalypse society that lasts long enough for the leader's successor to come into play to have been a successful one. The ones we've seen so far have lasted, what, 16 months at most?
What about a 'Five Good Emperors' succession law, where a dictatorial heir is determined by their merit?
Nice plug. I'ma give it a read.
I'm thinking long term, yes. I mean, isn't that what ZA societies are for? Also, with the medical care available, I wouldn't be surprised if the leader died before time. Anything serious (from diseases to bullet wounds) and he's gotta pray that the doctor is good enough to know what he has (no blood tests for you!) and has the proper meds to treat it.
One of the many problems with dictators is that it's a life-long title. Anyone can go mad with power, even if he had his merits when he was elected. Also, how would dissidents be treated under this system? Even if the dictator is supposedly obliged to listen to all voices, he could just silence the ones he dislikes. Essentially, I believe it's not the man, it's the system. It's too easy to have abuse of power, whatever the intentions were when it was created. I think it's a matter of time until you land into someone like Carver, or worse.
Carley. Jane. Molly. Kenny. Lee. Omid. Clementine "Season 2". Will probably have Lee as leader.
Katjaa and Duck too. We don't need any boat plans.
I prefer loner Kenny. Kinda of a badass without the jerkiness of protecting his family at any cost.
As for me, I'd rule my little kingdom as a somewhat benevolent dictator ruling under a constitution and using the example of the Bill of Rights to rule for the collective good. I would have an economic system based on 'From each according to ability; to each according to need'. I'd have an offensive army that routinely clears out walkers in campaigns lasting anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks, in addition to a defensive militia. As our army cleared out areas, we'd have colonists joining any existing survivors to create a self-sufficient colony. We would both solve overcrowding and our society's threat of extinction. I think that my society would probably get wiped out by disease rather than walkers.
Clem would probably hate the overly strict rules, but there aren't pedophiles, rapists, murderers, abusers of any sort, racists, or heavy drug users. So who knows?
Carverism. xD Just kidding.
U WOT M8?!?!?!
my ideal society would be a big settlement more like a city , and far from any group in the mountains with a very big suply of water and a leader that is prepare to sacrifice everything he has to protect his people, but sadly in the walking dead you cant have a big settlement without having at least one big problem ,
