Could you make an Android version too ?

First off, thank you for playing it is appreciated :) However I've never really gotten into "apps" or app-making, however if possible. I'll try my best, however an "android version" will have to come after the whole project is complete.

THIS GAME SUCKS. ITS PATHETIC. PLEASE DELETE IT.

Attracted your attention didn't I? Don't worry, I didn't mean anything of what I said below bit what i'm about to su is what matters. This game is absolutely amazing and I see so much potential in it, I've thought about making games in the past and I stumble across the walking dead where you make your own choices and it inspired me. Due to the many things o had to purchase to get anywhere I slowly gave up, and just played the game. Today I stumbled across the community for the first time, and ice been looking through some threads and this one caught my eye. A text based adventure game? I have endured suc a thing before in forum RPG which I became an expert at. Anyway, I started playing the game and hole reading it I made up my own character in my head. I thought as I read and I felt the sensational feeling I felt during playing the walking dead especially season 2. I played and I made my choices, and enjoyed THEM even though it was short. After playing I caught my breath and just stared at my laptop screen and whispered, this is perfect. I may have been over exaggerating, besides you are onl STARTING the game as a demo. The amount of potential I see is marvelous and I made an account finally today to make this comment. I can't wait until an update to continue to play this game, to continue to play this world, I love it. Thank you for making this game, I honestly know that a lot of people wouldn't enjoy something they can't see visually but I see something. I see a new world! :)

  • Wow, erm I don't think I've been praised so much in my life and to have you just be so impacted by the game is phenomenal! Thank you so much, I'm actually working on it now and just editing sounds to have more immersive soundtracks. Wow, thank you I'll try my best working on the first episode :D

  • If you guys want I would love to do a Q&A with you, since I can't really think of any way to just reward you guys for support and not keep you waiting for so long. If you have any other ideas I'll be glad to hear them, so yeah. :D

  • Ooo, I have a couple of questions for a Q&A. As for anything else, I'm not too sure.

First question, Will the characters in the game ever interact or give a reference to other characters in the video game?

Second question, Is the game a gamebook or a text adventure?

Third question, Will the game have the same idea like 'The Last of Us' and have some walkers have loot on them. So you can choose in between if you kill it to loot it, but maybe some times if its a hoard you'd die. :O

Fourth question, on a scale of 1-10, how difficult is it to make this game?

Fifth question, how long do you think it will be for all five episodes?
5b Question, will it be five episodes totally?

Sixth question, are you thinking of making a DLC or extra to the story like 400 Days?

Seventh question, how determined are you too carry this series? On a scale of 1-10?

Eighth question, If you ever finish the first series do you have any interest in a second?

  • Wow, that's a lot of questions thank you :)

First Question: Will the characters in the game ever interact or give reference to other characters in the video game?

Answer: Well with interacting we'll have to see but refences are more likely. In fact you reference two characters from the game in the very first page. The two girls waiting outside Crawford are meant to be Molly and her sister.

Second Question: Is the game a gamebook or a text adventure?

Answer: It's more of a "gamebook" rather than a text adventure however it does take elements from text adventures (such as puzzle-solving) and so I'd rather stick to calling it that, so long as people don't mind. :)

Third Question: Will the game have the same idea as 'The Last of Us' and have walkers contain loot. So you choose between killing them or looting them, but perhaps if there's a horde you'll die.

Answer: Walkers sometimes may have items on them needed to progress through the story however the game is more focused on perhaps distracting walkers, ways to kill them or getting past them rather than finding loot.

Fourth Question: On a scale of 1-10 how difficult is it to make this game?

Answer: Aha, I wouldn't like to say it was difficult since it's mostly fun but I'd perhaps say 7. I'm trying to pack dynamic choices, good writing and creating my own soundtrack from various sounds and music from 'The Walking Dead' video game series for certain scenes all into one adventure. It's somewhat difficult but I do enjoy it.

Fifth Question: How long do you think it will be for all five episodes? And will it be just five episodes?

Answer: It will actually be six episodes, as it says during the introduction. However for how long it will take to complete it, months possibly even a year since I want to improve and make episodes bigger each time and the first episode is already taking quite longer than I thought.

Sixth Question: Are you thinking of making a DLC or extra to the story like 400 Days?

Answer: Maybe, it'd be interesting but with the storys direction, I don't think we'll be seeing a DLC or extra anytime soon.

Seventh Question: How determined are you to carry this series, on a scale of 1-10?

Answer: I would say I'm very determined, I'm staying up to 6 AM in the morning just working on the first episode, even now as I'm typing this I have it up in the background and still working on it. I would say 6, just to be mostly determined I guess. But I don't want to sound arrogant :P

Eight Question: If you ever finish the first series, do you have any interest in a second?

It really depends on how the story ends with John and the player. Throughout the series their bond will grow and their relationship will be tested, however it just really depends on the players choices to see what would happen in a second series. Though I would love to write one up.

Thank you for all those questions, I hope I answered them appropriately. :D

But finally here I am just to say to you my friend that this game is AMAZING! So, here is my first question: Will you only use the TWD game OST or you are planning in do some original OST? :D

  • Thank you so much for playing, and well everything! :D

Question: Will you only use TWD Game OST or are you planning in to do some original OST?

Answer: Due to limited resources, and not being able to produce music, write/read music or play an instrument. I'm having to stick to TWD for OST, I'm trying to make it unique as possible by including sound effects to go alongside music to build scenes, and use music from the show as well that people who play the video-games may not have heard. :)

  • Hey, HarjiKS I was just had a question since I am doing my own text adventure game in association to the walking dead/the last of us. How many pages have you done so far? I don't number some of my pages because they become alternates, but I'm through fifty pages already and sometimes I think I am over doing it. I just wanted to be on the safe side honestly.

  • Just wanted to say it's great that you're making your own text-adventure game and I wish you the best of luck with it.

In terms of page numbers, they're not really important to me, I just try to make sure there's enough to keep players options open yet restrict them and keep them on certain paths so they don't wander off and we get a mixture of average stories rather than a few good ones. Besides that, I so far have over 100 pages. Not all the pages I use of course, but most of them I do and this I find isn't even covering half of the episode yet, so I am trying to work my hardest to get the episode done and check through it.

But getting to the point, like I said page numbers don't matter, as long as your making the game the way you want it to play, then that is fine. :)

Good luck, and thanks for playing! :D

  • nice game.

  • Wow, Thanks for the advice! I was getting worried that I was doing something wrong. Also thanks for the support to my game, I'm still working on it, but when I feel that it is time to make a check point I will share a link to the demo so I can get feedback from you.

One thing about gamebook is that you don't have an inventory or anything, that allows you to access deeper into the story. So you do have to keep that certain path within it, and as you said keeping the options/choices open yet, restrict them is the right thing to do. It's like more work, but it's more fun as well.

    Thank you! :D

  • That's great and thank you, and I've planned to have an invetory system, I've figured it out :)

The only reason I wouldn't do a text-adventure is because if someone mispells something or says a wrong command, then it will say that there is an error or that they can't do that which breaks the immersion for players. But nevertheless it is useful in some cases. I've managed to so far create mainly three different paths the story goes for Episode One however the ending will (mostly) be the same. ;)

Deepest apoligies guys, however I'm going to have to delay the episode. I'm not going to say how long this will take it could take days, weeks or even months but please know I am trying my hardest to create a great experience for you guys. I know this doesn't excuse anything and you have every right to feel mad/dissapointed, and I am sorry, I really am.

This project is larger than I thought, I've never done anything like this before so I really had no idea what I was getting myself into, and yes I understand that, estimating a release date was something that I should not have done.

Nevertheless I'm sorry to anger or dissapoint any of you, if there's any way I could make it up to you, please let me know.

Thank you for your hopeful understanding, and I apoligise once more.

    Have a nice day.

  • Don't worry. But will it have hubs?! Just kidding. :P

  • It actually will (and technically does in the demo, if you choose to 'Stay' instead of 'Leave' the cabin, you can explore the cabin and talk to John).

Thank you for being so understanding. :)

  • Yes. I realised that. As a person who play Visual Novels, more text the better. :3

  • Hmm my question aren't you gonna name the player?

Wow the story is quite interesting and waiting for episode 2

And hey in second season try to make it rpg maker :D

P.S your text game is awesome i rate it 10/10

  • Yeah I kinda realised that :P

lol you just turned into Telltale. No worries though!

  • Thank you for playing, and I'm glad you enjoyed it.

The reason I haven't named the player is, the fact that the player is the protagonist. It's meant to be you in The Walking Dead, however if you don't want it to be then you can create your own character and interpret the game to have them as the protagonist.

As well as this, I'm not going to make the second season in RPG Maker solely for the fact that I feel it wouldn't be immersive enough, but I am thinking of new directions to take it, also that wasn't the first episode that was only a demo. I haven't even completled the first episode yet. :D

  • 3 days left! :D

  • 3 days left? If you mean 3 days left until the episode is released, well I mean the episode was originally due tomorrow (at least from my time-zone), and the episode has unfortunatetly been delayed.

  • Hopefully not, I'm trying to get it finished as much as possible, I've just been a bit too ambitious and made quite a few jarring decisions which really affect the story, as well as decide to make my own sounds using Telltales sound effects and as well as have another hub area with much more dialogue options, so...yeah :D

Don't worry I'll try and get it finished :D
