Swedish customs fee

As a huge fan of Monkey Island, I don't even see it as an option not to buy it (I also neeeeed that Sam & Max book). But I'm slightly worried about customs fees to Sweden.

Is there any Swedes out there who've ordered from Telltale, and if so, did the government slap a big fat customs bill on your package?

I'll probably end up ordering either way, but I'd rather be prepared for the extra cost.

I can't answer for Sweden specifically, but in some countries the fee is based on the value of the package. You could check with your local customs office to find out if there's a threshold and what it is.

Yes, the Swedish customs will add a the standard 25% Swedish VAT (I know, it's like a robbery!), plus some extra fee because the grumpy customs had to do their job.

I suppose there won't be a European distributor of your products?

Nope, for the time being we're only distributing out of the US.

I don't know how Sweden does things compared to Cyprus, but it comes through the normal mail for stuff in this price range and I don't need to pay extra.

So is there really VAT added? Wouldn't it technically be a "gift" since the dvd is a bonus for buying the episodes? I mean it would be clear if I bought a dvd directly but in this case?

Well... Telltale could always tick the "gift" box on the little green sticker that goes on the package, and the customs would never know what hit 'em ^_-

So does anyone have experience with this?

I'm not sure about Sweden in particular, but ever since Telltale have changed distribution centre I never receive custom charges here in England.

Good news, S&M S02 arrived today without any additional taxes :)

Thats good to know. Although because it's a DVD, it probably was able to slip through.

You must be lucky then. What did you buy? Got charged £20 last week(Daylight robbery, I nearly didn't pay it) in terms of VAT because apparently TT didn't charge VAT ontop. Although it was shipped in a pretty big box, so I guess it can't exactly slip through unnoticed. Think I was most outraged by the extra £8 for them paying it on my behalf.

I also had some other stuff ordered in another order too being shipped here. Hope that doesn't get caught too. If it does I probably won't be ordering merchandise from here again. Will stick to the places I know I havent had import tax with. xD

Strange though really. I've ordered thousands of stuff from America before, also from Asia too, and I've never been charged for import tax.

Edit: My other stuff today arrived without tax, luckily. Although looking at the box, this time shipping wasnt included on the price on the box, which meant it seemed alot cheaper, despite paying the same amount for both orders. So I guess they just forgot to take off shipping on the price of the box for the first out of these two orders. Annoying mistake.
