What if Clementine isn't in Season 3?

I've seen a couple of threads where people are saying they want a new protagonist in a 3rd Season. I personally feel that would be a bad choice on Telltales behalf.

I for one would probably not be that interested in buying it. I'd just watch a walkthrough on YouTube and see what happens. If Telltale for some stupid reason killed off Clementine then I would never play the game again.

What are your opinions on this matter?
Would you like Clementines story to continue or do you feel the series needs a new protagonist, and would you play a Season 3 without her?

Clem works better as an NPC for us to try and shape. When Clem is being directly controlled by us she just feels less... I don't know, like our decisions carry weight with her? It doesn't matter if we have her act as some sociopathic merciless killer one minute, because in the next episode we can play her as being Patron Saint of the Apocalypse just because we're in direct control. S1 didn't have that nearly as much because Clem was influenced, but not directly under our control.

In addition, there's less (I say less, not that there's none) sense of urgency when we're in control. I take the Sarah scene for example; nobody else was at risk in the convincing scene than Clem and Sarah. We're willing to take that risk because we know come-what-may Clem isn't going to live or die by that decision (since both Jane and Luke would be able to easily escape). If that scene involved our protagonist having to choose between letting Clem (her friend) stay and convince her, or drag Clem out of there, it may have led to the same result, but still feel more difficult. I think Clem's "player plot armour" does a disservice to the character.

I don't think they should necessarily kill off Clem or remove her from the story. I just don't think we should play as her anymore.

  • Well we won't have an idea until No Going Back is released. Many things can happen.

  • she just cant die in the finale ... she just cant , we just have to play as her in season 3

  • We made it this far so killing her will make the whole game pointless, Clem needs to be in season 3 or Telltale loses money.

  • Plot twist: What if there won't be a Season 3? :o

But, to be realistic, if they dropped 'The Walking Dead' or didn't at least continue 'The Wolf Among Us', then it would be hard for them to even further exist (if GOT and TFTB won't be surprising hits).

So, I hope for Season 3 of 'The Walking Dead' late next year. Sure as hell not before that, as much as I wish.

  • Yes, because "fans" of TWD will refuse to buy any more from Telltale because their favorite fictional character dies. False fans. If you would stop playing something because of a character who dies, then don't consider yourself a fan. I'm a fan of TWD universe, the comics, show and game (The game being my favorite). My favorite character already died in the show and I'm still watching. My favorite character in the comics is still alive, but I will still read because I want to know what happens with the rest of the characters. The same applies to Clem, if/when she dies, I'll still play because I'm not a false fan.

  • Would it be a surprise if their GOT or Borderlands games are hits? They're both massive franchises.

  • I see GOT becoming succesful, but TOTBL not so much...I think TWD had the luck of GOT: To already have millions of fans.

TOTBL has many Fans, not doubt, but not even a tenth of GOT or TWD.

  • I'd rather have Season 2 end bittersweet with Clementine alive, and having Season 3 set around different characters. I don't mind if they'd meet Clementine or not.

  • Im not saying I don't want her in season 3 but yes I would rather play as someone new with a new backstory

  • I agree, but to maintain where they are now it only has to match the Wolf among us.

  • I would consider the idea of not playing because there isn't any reason to get rid of Clementine. To me this is Clementines journey, I wouldnt like the idea of her not being involved in it.

If we play as another character alongside Clem helping to protect her (even though shes more than capable of protecting herself) then I'd be fine with that.

  • The season 3 would work with her if she would get older, like 16 years old. Then we would have a badass teenager and it would make more sense because right now she's just a little girl who gets pushed around like crazy and has to do everything an adult should do.

  • If She isn't in Season 3, LET'S PLAY AS KENNY.

I was going to make a thread like this with my idea to see how people felt about it. But, I'll post it here for now.

In Season 1, we protected Clementine. This season, we controlled Clementine. What if in Season 3, we were led by Clementine? Think of it like this: in Season 3, we start off with a group. For some reason, you and your group are having to survive alone in the woods. You are suddenly attacked by a herd of walkers. You battle your way through, but find yourselves pit in a corner. Just a you think all hope is lost, someone or a couple people save you. As you ask for the name(s) to thank them, we find ourselves in front of an older Clementine who looks somewhat unrecognizable (maybe a new haircut, no hat, and (obviously) a few years older with a more rugged appearance). Depending on the Clementine you create at the end of Season 2, you will have a Clem that is either hopeful and friendly, cold and calculating, or mysterious and quiet... something like that. As you journey to Clem's camp and interact with her, you can influence how she responds to you and maybe her outlook on life. I think this will only work with a character younger or equal to Clem's age.

I also have an idea for running into a Clementine who, despite her young age, is the leader or one of the main heads of a camp.

  • I feel this is a good idea. Maybe not for season 3, but perhaps a season 4 or 5 if Telltale takes the series this far.

  • i don't think she's going anywhere anytime soon because its her game it always was. even tho you play as lee in season 1 he isn't really the main character. i see lee as an avatar for the player you know? Clem is the real main character because season 1 was all about her and her well being. so based on that Clem is here to stay. i think telltale said something about this somewhere.

  • I would like to play as her again in season 3, if there is one.

  • Yeah, the Walking Dead is really about Clementine's journey and growth through the apocalypse. It would feel kind of weird to me if she was shelved next season.

  • I carnt tell you how much I agree with this, playing as clem was the worst decision ever and is the root cause of S2 not hitting the mark..

If telltale want to save this franchise then S3 needs the player controling another character, it just doesnt work, the decisions mean nothing because of it like you explained... such a shame, this series could have been so much more...

  • After ep4, i wish S3 wouldn't ever happen, but if there is one... Clem probably will be there as NPC at least.

It is still unlikely that Clem would die.

    Clem = $$$

Dead Clem = SUPER ANGRY CUSTOMERS

but who knows, after after Nicks amazing story arc and very 'meaningful' choices, who gives a shit about fans?

  • I will play TWD if Telltale makes it regardless of which character you can control. If Clem is the main character in Season 3 hopefully she can be older and make her own decision and possibly have the option to become a Jane or Molly type character as she seen alot of her friends die, Maybe Clem becomes the new Lee and raises the baby and has to protect it how Lee did her

  • This so much.

I feel season two could've benefited greatly if we played as another character with Clem still being a prominent character in the group. We wouldn't exactly be protecting her as Lee did, but we would've seen how our choices in S1 shaped her. Right now, we can be as inconsistent with our choices to make Clem kind and caring or brutal and edgy as much as we want because that's what happens when you put a NPC as a player character who had a clearly defined personality earlier on.

Hell, I'm even thinking that Lee living up to S2 as the protagonist would've been a good idea. Telltale could have killed him off at the end of the season for twice the emotional damage as episode 5 and we could've possibly seen a much older Clem in a future season fulfilling the group's errands realistically this time, not necessarily as a little kid.

  • I don't think we need a new protaganist, I don't want a new protaganist. We need a better moral compass. I mean who the hell was the moral compass this season? Sarah? Luke? I could see next season with a 15 year old Clementine taking care of the moral compass, Rebecca's baby boy. I don't know how far ahead the comic is though but I don't think it's far enough for Clementine to be 15 or the baby to be old enough.

  • It will kill her off after she enters adulthood. If they kill her off now its just messed up, all throughout season 1 and two we watched her progress from being ( S1 E1 ) a helpless little girl to ( S2 E4 ) A * she can take care of herself more then she could before * girl

  • simple.... i'll stop playing the walking dead then :< i'm already had enough with this shit feels :'<
