Episode 5 Decision: [Fight] or [Protect the baby]? Third option added!

Well, it seems that Season Two's finale is going start with a BANG. When Kenny/Clem killed Rebecca, they started a chain reaction of shooting that presumably turns into a nasty firefight. My theory is that Clementine will be forced to make a major decision just a couple seconds into the episode. Here's how I see it going down.

.

Shots are being fired left and right and people on both sides start to get hit. Clementine looks over at the baby who's still lying on Rebecca's lap. Kenny shouts "Clem, get behind something now, goddamnit!" Time slows down to a crawl and the player is given a choice.

[Protect the Baby] ---OR--- [Fight]

.

If [Fight] is chosen --->

(Note: Kenny could be replaced with Luke or another character.)

Clementine sprints for cover while shooting in the direction of the enemies. The game goes into a first-person shooting sequence as she tries to shoot the Russians when they pop out from behind cover. After a few seconds Kenny shouts "Dammit, cover me!" and runs over to the baby. Suddenly, the Russian with the tattooed head jumps out and shoots Kenny in the torso. Clementine panics and accidentally lifts her head out of cover. The Russian sees her hat and fires a burst. One of the rounds grazes Clementine's head and knocks her out cold. Cut to title screen.

Clementine is slightly wounded. Her hat will have a bloody tear ripped through the side for the remainder of the episode. Kenny or some other character will be severely/mortally wounded.

If [Protect the Baby] is chosen ---> Clementine zig-zags through the line of fire, ignoring the horrified protests of the group ("Take cover Clem! Are you fucking crazy?!") The Russians see her charging toward them with a gun and shoot at her. A bullet hits Clementine in the shoulder/side and she falls to the ground, gasping in pain. Kenny screams "Clem? CLEMENTINE!" and jumps out of cover, shooting at the Russians in a frenzied rage. He's wounded, but manages to draw their fire away from Clem. The view switches to first-person from Clementine's perspective as she struggles to get back on her feet (via QTE). Everything slows down and the sound of fighting is drowned out by Clementine's heartbeat. Eventually, the quick time event fails and Clementine collapses. She crawls a couple feet toward the baby before passing out. Cut to title screen.

Clementine is severely wounded. Her jacket will be splattered with blood for the rest of the episode. Kenny will receive a minor wound.

Just for fun: [IF THE TIMER RUNS OUT] ---> Clementine panics and freezes up, until a Russian turns and points his AK-47 at her. Clem raises her pistol to shoot him, but is taken down by shot through the shoulder before she can fire. Kenny runs over to where Clem is writhing on the ground and tries to drag her to safety. He succeeds, but another Russian shoots him in the back, inflicting a mortal wound.

Clementine is seriously wounded, her jacket will be splattered with blood for the rest of the episode. Kenny is mortally wounded.

I think that either choice could open up some interesting possibilities, like a dream/nightmare, or introducing a new faction. Maybe the Russians will pity and bring the survivors back to camp with them, who knows.

Anyway, that's about it. Hopefully you enjoyed my little idea. Feel free to tell me how wrong I am or share your own gunfight theories.

  • Eh, the baby's life is less important. I would fight.

  • Jeez I thought you were saying fight the baby xD

  • Nice little theories. This is the awesome part about playing it as soon as they come out. Everyone having their own theories for the next episode. I'm not so sure how it's going to pan out being honest!

I think Clementine will shield the baby and survive in cover. The majority of the Russians will die. Mike will die but he'll take one out with him. Bonnie will kill the female Russian but she'll be killed also. Unfortunately because I like them two. Kenny and Luke will be wounded but they will each kill a Russian and live.

I also think Arvo will be wounded in the cross fire. And that will be a choice. To either put him out of his misery or leave him to die.

  • I really like these choices and outcomes...have a thumbs up

  • I'd easily protect the baby. That little brat is gonna owe me big time when he grows up.

  • One can only hope a theory this good could happen.

  • Holy damn. Good choices.

  • Thanks, I try. :3

  • Same. I mentioned on another thread that my Clem was pretty much done putting her ass on the line or the others. This choice might prove that there's still some compassion left.

  • It's a baby. I'd feel like a dick if I didn't try to save it and I had the opportunity. Unless Junior pulls an AK-47 out of his diaper and begins dispensing lead justice, SOMEONE needs to protect him.

  • Yeah, I'm thinking about amending it. Maybe have Kenny say "Clem! Get behind something! I'll take care of the baby." or something like that.

Trying to think of what would happen if you let time expire.

  • Your theorization of the choices for the gunfight in Episode 5: No Going Back is perfect, because of the emotional drivenness underlying the phenomenal idea. Telltale Games should consider hiring you as a lead writer for future projects of theirs, because I can feel the feels at the mere thought of the scenario that you conjured up ensuing.

  • If time expires? Rocks Fall, Everyone Dies. Telltale is a strict DM and it isn't putting up with indecision any longer.

I was thinking that letting time expire would cause Clementine to panic and 'freeze up'. She might get shot, and someone else would be killed/injured dragging her to safety.

I would choose to protect it, but I wouldn't think less of someone for choosing to fight instead.

I mean, if those are all of them, it would be:

Clem, Kenny, Bonnie, Mike & Luke x 3 russians with guns + Arvo.

    They're outnumbered.

  • At least one of the Russians has an AK and another has a shotgun. The AK is fully automatic and the shotgun can kill or injure multiple people, if they're using buckshot (which I assume they are). Plus, they have the ground surrounded and packed together.

I'll admit, things are looking grim for our Russkie friends. In all fairness, the translation of their dialogue makes it clear that they didn't want a fight once they found out the ground has a baby with them. Problem is, Clementine's group is VERY aggressive because of they baby.

I think that would work. It makes the most sense out of anything else that could happen.

As I recall from another thread, our friend Vitali (shotgun guy I think) is really aggressive, claiming he can take Kenny 'eyepatch guy' on without guns. He also states he'll eat his entrails or something. Freaky.

    Tatoo guy frightens me aswell.

Nice job on these choices! I like how there are sacrifices in each. If you protect the baby, others are less injured whereas you take most of the hits. If you fight, you're less likely to get injured yet another character will get the brunt of it.

  • Well...that's a mental image I could've done without. XD Anybody got some brain bleach?
