My Idea for Season 2 Episode 5 "No Going Back"
I know a lot of people have made their discussions on their ideas for No Going Back, and I really would like to share mine. This whole thing started brewing in my head after posting in a "leaked" choices thread here. Might be pretty long-winded, the start is fairly detailed, I thought that what happens coming off of Episode 4 was really important. The rest is basically just a summary of what happens in a section of the episode.
Episode begins with a black screen and the dialogue before the shootout in Amid The Ruins, where everyone is raising their guns. Telltale and Skybound logos appear here. Rebecca reanimates and either Clementine or Kenny shoots her depending on your choice at the end of the last episode, followed by the shootout and "THE WALKING DEAD" title appearing.
A long shot of the snowy area, there is blood everywhere accompanied by what looks like four dead bodies. First-person view from Clementine, she is getting up from the ground, her vision is blurry and she can't hear due to an intense ringing in her ears. As the ringing dies down, she can hear, and eventually see, Arvo, who is terribly distraught and speaking in Russian. Clementine hears another Russian voice, and looks down to see Natasha sitting on the ground with a gunshot wound in her stomach. Arvo begins to move towards Natasha, but Kenny can be heard telling him not to move.
First-person view ends, we see Kenny and Luke. Kenny is standing with his gun pointed at Arvo, while Luke is sitting on the ground, he has a gunshot wound in his chest, near his left shoulder. Arvo puts his hands up and begins weeping, saying that this wasn't supposed to happen. Through dialogue options, Clementine tries to talk to Arvo. Arvo, still weeping, says that they just wanted to get the medicine back. We now can see the dead bodies of Buricko and Vitali. Kenny is shown checking the magazine in his pistol and grimacing. More dialogue options, Arvo is becoming more distraught, and Natasha tries to comfort him in Russian. Suddenly, Kenny begins quickly walking towards Arvo, who starts pleading with Kenny. Luke tells Kenny to stop, but Kenny lifts his gun and shoots Arvo in the face. Natasha, who still had her gun next to her, lifts it and shoots Kenny in the side twice, she then turns her gun on Clementine, who lifts hers. Clementine can now shoot or wait, in which case Kenny will recover and shoot Natasha in the head.
"EPISODE FIVE - NO GOING BACK" title appears.
Clementine looks around at the field, Buricko and Vitali were both killed in the gunfight, Bonnie and Mike have both sustained multiple gunshot wounds, but they appear to still be living. Kenny also points this out with a "They're alive?!". This leads us to the first major choice of the episode:
Talked with Mike or Bonnie?
If you choose to talk to Mike, Clementine will walk over to him while Luke goes to Bonnie. Mike will apologize for not helping much, you will get a few dialogue options, and he will mention that he at least saved one life (referring to Reggie). After another set of dialogue, Mike will ask that if Clementine ever finds those raccoons, she not kill them, and he passes away. Luke says that Bonnie has passed also.
If you choose to talk to Bonnie, Clementine will walk over to her while Kenny goes to Mike. Bonnie will say that she doesn't think she's ever really helped anyone, and that she's sorry. You get a few dialogue options, and Bonnie tells Clementine that if she had believed her and helped her right away back at the hardware store, they could've escaped without Kenny getting hurt. After another set of dialogue, Bonnie laments about Dee and Leland before passing away. Kenny says that Mike has passed also.
After this, Kenny takes the baby from Rebecca's lap, and before the four leave the area, Luke asks Clementine why she shot Rebecca. Before he can speak, Kenny tells him she turned. Luke hangs his head, and they leave.
Achievement: Blood and Iron - Made it out alive.
They travel for a while, but Kenny and Luke are both in extreme pain due to their wounds so they stop at what looks like a rest-area. Clementine searches the restrooms for anything she can use to help, finds a few walkers, and eventually three rolls of paper towels. Kenny and Luke use these as makeshift bandages, and add extra layers to the baby's wrap with them as well. They all have a long discussion about what has happened and what to do next. Kenny and Luke get into a heated argument which, depending on what Clementine says, could end there, or lead to Kenny punching Luke. If the punch occurs, the baby will cry, Kenny will apologize and things cool down. They discuss things a bit more, Kenny and Luke reconcile, and they all decide that they will definitely head to that town across the river. They continue traveling.
Achievement: Miles To Go - Took a breather.
Once it has gotten dark and extremely cold, they find a campsite-like area, and clear out all of the walkers. They decide that it will be best if they all sleep in this one large tent they've found. Both Kenny and Luke are growing weaker and, though the "bandages" helped a little, are still losing blood. Kenny stays at the tent and watches the baby while Luke and Clementine go out and search the area. Clementine searches one section of the site, while Luke searches another. Eventually, Clementine comes across a raccoon den, inside is what might be the raccoon and its babies from Episode 4, they are sleeping. This leads us to the second major choice of the episode:
Killed the raccoon family?
If you choose to kill the raccoons, Clementine will bring them back to the tent, where Kenny has built a campfire. Luke has found a few blankets, pillows, a package of real bandages, and a bottle of baby formula in half of a trailer. Kenny will praise Clementine and start cooking them over the fire. Luke will make a comment about eating the babies and the fact that he's found supplies as well, to which Kenny will tell him to stop being a puss, though he thanks him for finding the formula. Everyone sits around the campfire and eats, discussing things about themselves (character developing scene). The four lay down in the tent, putting the baby in the center as to give it more warmth. Some time in the night, Clementine is woken up by Kenny leaving the tent, when he returns, he can be heard saying "Goodnight, my baby boy.", and kissing the baby.
In the morning, Kenny can't get Luke to wake up, but eventually he does. Both he and Kenny look much worse. They all head out again, it has started snowing.
If you choose to leave them alone, Clementine will return to the tent empty-handed, where Kenny has built a campfire. Luke has found a few blankets, pillows, a package of real bandages, and a bottle of baby formula in half of a trailer. Kenny will thank Luke for finding the supplies, and Clementine for looking. They don't eat anything that night. Everyone sits around the campfire, discussing things about themselves (character developing scene).
Before they all head out, Kenny mentions that he saw an empty raccoon den when he went out in the night to use the bathroom, and that he wished they were there so they could've eaten something. He then asks Clementine, since she was over there, if she saw the den. She can then either say: [No, but I wish I had], [Yes, but it was empty], or [Yes, but I didn't want to kill them]. If you choose one of the first to options, Kenny will say that it's a shame and that the baby could've really used some food. If you admit to leaving the raccoons, Kenny will become enraged, yelling things like:
"Because you don't want to hurt some poor animals, we're all gonna starve?!"
And, "This baby will die, Clementine, and it'll be your fault."
Luke tells Kenny that he wouldn't want to eat babies either, and points out that he needs to stop because of Rebecca's baby, who is crying hysterically. Kenny calms the baby, and as they all head out, he says to Clementine that he can't believe she's done this. It has started snowing.
Achievement: Right of Frost - Stopped for the night.
The group reaches the shore of the river just before noon, where they discover a bridge that has completely collapsed. Kenny says that, in this area, this bridge is probably the only one for miles, and he and Luke cannot make a trip like that in their condition. They continue walking the shore until they find a trail of blood, following it they discover a small row boat filled with blood, next to which are four paddles, the bottom end of one of the paddles is covered in blood and intestines. Kenny points out that since it's a little after noon, and that they probably won't find another boat, or at least one they can use, they're gonna have to use this one, Luke agrees. They use one of the blankets they've brought with them to clean out the inside of the boat as best as they can, and push it into the water. The wind and snowfall have picked up, making the water rougher than usual. Kenny and Luke are both rowing while Clementine holds the baby. There are dialogue options and actions in order to calm the baby. At about halfway across the river, the wind is now blowing incredibly strong, pushing the boat into a section of rapids. The boat hits a rock, causing Kenny and Luke to lose their paddles, and Clementine to drop the baby near her feet. Just as Luke calls Clementine's name and Kenny calls for the baby, the boat lurches again, causing Clementine to be thrown out of the boat and into the freezing water. Luckily, Clementine is able to grab the boat's edge, and sees that Luke has the baby and is handing it to Kenny. He turns to her and tells her to grab his hand. Kenny states that they're almost to the other side, and now that they're out of the rapids, they'll need someone to help push the boat. Luke asks if he's implying Clementine should paddle for them, to which Kenny says that he doesn't want her to have to do it. Luke tells Clementine to get in and that he'll paddle. This leads us to the third major choice of the episode:
Helped paddle?
If you choose to stay in the water and paddle, the boat will make it to the other side, but Clementine will have contracted mild hypothermia and will now shiver and have a bit of frost on her lips, nose, eyelashes, hair, and clothes. She will also be slower and weaker from now on.
If you choose to have Luke paddle, the boat will make it to the other side, but Luke will have contracted mild hypothermia and will now shiver and have a bit of frost on his lips, nose, eyelashes, hair, and clothes. He will also be much slower and weaker than he already was from now on.
It is now almost dark, the group reaches what looks like a large wooded park. They head in.
Achievement: Center Cannot Hold - Reached the other side.
When they enter the park, they realize it is filled with walkers. There are four paths to go down, you will have to choose one, on each path you will have to kill many walkers, and then move up to a certain spot to search for supplies. Kenny puts the baby in the bag he keeps the blankets and bandages in, and asks Clementine where she wants to go. Whichever path you choose, Kenny and Luke will each take one of the other three. Kenny looks at a board near the entrance with a map on it and says that they will all meet at the Gazebo near the center of the park. Soon after Clementine reaches the Gazebo, Luke shows up. He asks where Kenny is, and the two circle the Gazebo, attempting to call out for Kenny quietly. Kenny arrives and asks why they're doing that, saying they're going to draw walkers.
What happens here is different depending on whether or not you chose to paddle earlier. If you chose to paddle, while Kenny and Luke are talking, Clementine's vision becomes blurry and she nearly faints due to her mild hypothermia, falling against the railing of the Gazebo. The railing breaks, and causes the entire Gazebo to start falling apart. Clementine snaps out of it immediately, Luke runs over and grabs her before she is crushed by the roof of the Gazebo. The three stand there for a moment, Luke asks Clementine if she's okay, but before she can answer, Kenny shushes them.
If you chose to have Luke paddle, the same thing happens, except Luke is the one who nearly faints and causes the Gazebo to fall apart.
The howling wind is quickly drowned out by the sound of a very large of amount of walkers is getting louder. From out of the darkness, the first few of many walkers begins walking towards them, Luke says it sounds like hundreds. As an uncountable amount of walkers emerge from the trees, the three of them run in the direction of what Kenny says is the exit. Walkers are coming out of the dark in all directions, so you must dodge and kill many of them on the run to escape the park.
The group exits the park, and once they are in the open, they realize a blizzard has started. They continue running. There are several inches of snow on the ground now, the blizzard hasn't died down. The group stops near an abandoned SUV, they can see the sun beginning to rise in the distance.
Achievement: All the Dark Night - Made it through to morning.
Kenny takes the crying baby out of the bag and the group has a talk. Kenny decides he and Luke shouldn't go on without resting. The SUV is locked, but through the window, they can see that the keys are in the ignition and that it has a small bit of gas in it. Kenny says they could use it to get to the town faster once they've rested, if they can get it open.
If you accepted Jane's nail file in Episode 4, Clementine will use that to unlock the car. If you didn't, you will have to find a bag a few feet away which has a paperclip in it.
Clementine sits with the baby in the back seat near the window so she can keep watch for any walkers from that herd. She sits there for a few minutes before she passes out (If she hadn't paddled earlier, she fights it a little longer, but eventually passes out anyway).
Clementine is woken up by Luke who tells her to stay absolutely quiet. She sits up to see walkers outside of the window. The hundreds of walkers from earlier have now surrounded the SUV completely. Clementine can ask what they're going to do, and Kenny will say he's going to start the SUV and plow through them. Luke asks Kenny if he's crazy and he points out that they have no other option. Kenny tells Clementine to put on her seat belt and hold on to the baby. He turns the key, starting the SUV and getting the attention of all of the surrounding walkers. He floors the gas pedal and begins smashing through the dozens of walkers in front of them. A walker smashes Clementine's window as the SUV passes it, and another grabs on and tries to pull itself in, Clementine can either shoot it, which will startle Kenny and make him jerk the wheel, causing Clementine to drop her gun out of the window afterwards, or stab it with her scratch awl, which will cause the walker to pull it out of her hand when it falls, either way, she loses a weapon. Kenny eventually makes it through the herd and drives on down the road. Once the SUV has run out of gas, the group steps out into the seemingly worse blizzard.
Achievement: We Slowly Drove - Reached the terminus.
It is now getting dark again, and the blizzard is making it even more difficult to see. Luke thinks they shouldn't go on in this storm, and that they should all just stay in the SUV until either the sun comes back up, or the blizzard dies down. This makes Kenny angry, he says that they must be very close to the town now, and that if they stay in the SUV again, the same thing will happen: they'll wake up to hundreds of walkers surrounding them. Luke walks over to Kenny, but grabs his wound and falls to his knees. Kenny rushes over, but Luke says he's okay. Luke says to Kenny that that the two of them can't keep going in this storm, and that Kenny said the same thing earlier. Kenny says that now, though, they are so close to the town, and he knows it. He also restates that the herd will catch up to them again. Luke says he will not keep going in the blizzard, especially (if you had Luke paddle earlier) in his condition. Kenny says he will not stay in the SUV any longer, and he is moving on. Luke asks Clementine, who still has the baby, if she agrees with him on staying, noting that (if you paddled earlier) she shouldn't keep moving through a blizzard in her condition. Kenny says that she can't seriously think she should stay, because they only have to walk up the road a ways and they will be at the town's entrance. This leads us to the fourth major choice of the episode:
Went with Luke or Kenny?
If you choose to stay with Luke, Kenny will ask to take the baby, but Luke tells him that it isn't his son, and that it won't happen. Kenny hits Luke and they get into a fistfight, but Clementine pleads with them to stop. Kenny shouts in pain and clutches his side, he gives Clementine the bag with the blankets, angrily tells her to keep the baby alive, and storms off into the dark blizzard. Luke and Clementine enter the SUV and talk about whether or not it was a good idea to let Kenny go. After a few minutes of dialogue options, Clementine will either convince Luke to go find Kenny, or Luke will decide on his own that they should look for him. Clementine puts the baby in the blanket bag and they head out. They travel a ways through the storm, unable to find Kenny's tracks because of the wind spreading the snow, eventually, Luke tells Clementine that he thinks he's done moving in this storm. He goes on to say that he can hardly feel his legs and he can't even see Clementine. Clementine convinces him to keep moving, helping him walk for about a mile, but his legs inevitably give out. Clementine tries to get him up, telling him that Kenny can't have gotten much further, but he says that he's not cold anymore, and that he'll be okay there. Clementine starts to cry as she attempts to drag him, but he grabs her arm and tells her to please leave him and find Kenny. Before Clementine leaves, Luke reminds her to protect the baby, because she's his big sister. Clementine says she will and walks off into the blizzard. The storm has now died down, and Clementine, able to see much better, finds a rest-stop similar to the one at the beginning. Under a roofed-off area, she sees footsteps, but following them leads her nowhere but back into the deeper snow, where the tracks end. Kenny isn't there. Clementine lays on one of the benches, putting the bag with the baby in it on her stomach and hugging it. Tears in her eyes, she falls asleep.
Achievement: Kindly Stop For Me - Found your way through.
If you choose to go with Kenny, Clementine will put the baby in Kenny's bag and apologizes to Luke, who tells her it's her choice. They head out into the storm and travel a long ways. Kenny eventually tells Clementine that he hopes that Luke's alright back there, and that he doesn't hate him, despite what she might think. He goes on to say that he isn't doing all right. After a minute or so of dialogue options, Clementine will either convince Kenny to go back for Luke, or Kenny will decide on his own that they should go back for him. They start heading back, Kenny mumbling along the way about making "stupid decisions because I'm soft". Eventually, Kenny tells Clementine that he thinks he's done moving, that he can barely feel his legs and that he can hardly see her. Clementine convinces him to keep moving, helping him walk for about a mile, but his legs inevitably give out. Clementine tries to get him up, telling him that they must be close to the SUV, but he says that he's not cold anymore, and that he'll be okay there. Clementine starts to cry as she attempts to drag him, but he grabs her arm and tells her to please leave him and get Luke. Before Clementine leaves, Kenny says, "Please protect my boy." Clementine tells him she will and walks off into the blizzard. The storm has now died down a little, and Clementine, now able to see much better, finds the SUV. She finds Luke's bloodied makeshift bandages wadded up in the back seat, and a bit of blood on the floor mat. She searches all over the area surrounding the SUV. Luke isn't there. Clementine lays in the back seat, putting the bag with the baby in it on her stomach and hugging it. Tears in her eyes, she falls asleep.
Achievement: Kindly Stop For Me - Found your way through.
Clementine is walking through the snow with the backpack holding the baby. The sky is clear and it is very bright. First-person view, Clementine's vision is blurry and she starts walking slower and slower, until she falls to her knees. She hears a metallic noise, footsteps, and what sounds like voices. She can't make anything out through her blurred vision though. She sees shapes moving all around her, and what feels like hands grabbing her and lifting her up. She can make out a few sentences:
"She's just a kid!"
"What the fuck?!"
"Look at her, we have to bring her in!"
"What's in her bag?!"
"Holy Shit!"
"What?! What?!"
"There's a fucking baby in here!"
"What?!"
"A baby!"
"Any weed in there?!"
"No, shut the fuck up! It's-"
"Eddie, James, what is it?!"
"Uh... It's...It's A..."
"Oh my god!"
"What?!"
"Oh my god, I know that girl, I know her, bring her inside, to the hospital, she's-"
"Who the fuck is she?"
"She's-"
Clementine passes out. She wakes up in a bed, her blurred vision from earlier going away quickly once she opens her eyes. She looks at something above her that seems strange. A ceiling. She looks around. Walls, a couch with something big on it, a TV. She hears a voice.
"Welcome back, Clem."
It's the same voice that was saying it knew her. But she's heard that voice somewhere before that. Clementine focuses on the thing on the couch. It's a person.
It's Christa. She's crying and holding the baby.
Clementine has a few dialogue options here. Christa asks who's baby this is. Clementine says it was a woman's who she'd met after they got separated. Christa then asks:
"What's his name?"
This leads us to the fifth and final major choice of the episode:
What did you name the baby?
There are six options:
[Lee], [Kenny], and [Luke]
or
[Omid], [Alvin], and [Ed]
After this, there is one more line of dialogue from Christa relating to the name.
Achievement: All The Dead Lie Down - Completed "No Going Back".

And roll credits.
Tl;dr: I don't remember.
If you've survived and are reading this now, please tell me what you think!
(I don't know if I'm dead or not, I literally wrote this from scratch with no draft starting at noon and I finished it at about 3:00 in the morning.)
Comments
I really liked this, good writing and good choices.
You got me at Raccoon
Very good story but I find the racoon choice a bit useless and it could be replaced with some other important choice. Other than that I think it's good.
Telltale need you as a writer so good
. But what happens to Kenny? Is he alive or dead or unknown, vintage Kenny!
Hmmmm, they might save him for season 3, (Someone put the GIF UP!)
Nope I reckon he's gonna die
Telltale,hire this guy!
If he does I think Luke will too.....
Dunno about that ending. Seems like it should go with a bang, the trio together. Can see it happening though. Also Clem might you know. Say go grab Kenny/Luke or something. And just bein' nabbed by Christa is okay, but maybe more. Learnin' about her baby.
Also feel like Mike or Bonnie could've died later in the episode. Maybe determinant on who you visit first. Inner strength and all that.
I have no idea whats gonna happen xD. Apparently rumours flying around with Lilly returning in Episode 5. But good ol' Kenny might die which then I cri
Telltale, you're passing up the opportunity to hire this guy.
DO IT, TELLTALE. DO IT.
If that happens, I hope they meet each other, and they can put aside their differences so Cluke will never happen, but unlikely
It will end with Lilly.
that was awesome but NEEDS MORE LILLY
Thank you for the input, I wanted to bring those raccoons back somehow (though they might not be the raccoons from the last episode). In regards to it being unimportant, I disagree, if you kill the raccoons and bring them back, everyone gets a meal, but if you choose to leave them alone, no one eats, and for no reason other than because you felt bad. That's a pretty big deal considering their predicament. However, I do respect your opinion.
If you choose to leave with Kenny, he will die while going back for Luke. If you choose to stay with Luke, it is unknown what happens to Kenny (for now).
I think, to Clem at least, it was pretty obvious Luke/Kenny died when you left them. Especially since they were already in the process of death, and then they were left in a blizzard for a good hour or so.
This is probably an unpopular opinion, but I would much rather see Lilly than Christa.
I tried to think of a spot I could fit Lilly into, but I couldn't find any way for her to appear that felt right.
Well I take back my words, it isn't a useless choice but I still think it should be replaced with a more important choice :P Also thanks for being cool about my opinion.
Just for reference, what kind of a choice might I put in a situation like this?
Telltale, give this man a job right now!!!
this is amazing dude! looks like you put a lot of work into this!
