Luke let it all out in Ep5
I like Luke. He's very kind, likeable and I love his brother-ish relationship
with Clementine. However, there's just this detail I really dislike about
his character : Nick's death reaction.
They have been friends for 20 years and his only reaction is a few curses.
POOF, forgotten, let's move on! In episode 2, he doesn't react AT ALL.
He might've said something about it off screen, though it's probably the
same few curses.
Now, I'm not saying I want him to cry his life in the next episode, but I
wouldn't be against a scene where he's saddened and discuss with Clem
about it. Something like, I don't know "I kept all my sadness inside
of me, but I can't stand it anymore, I am sad and need to cry a little".
I don't buy this 'Luke easily moves on' thing. Maybe with some people
okay, but his best friend he's known for such a long time? Come on!
What do you think about this? Do you want a scene like that in the
next episode?

I think that his reaction was just a lazy writing. This still can be fixed though. There was a lot going on episode 4, and maybe in episode 5 Luke will get that his best friend is dead and is gonna have some sort of emotional break.
My first thought when reading the title of this thread was:
"He's gonna let it all out while porking Jane."
I was thinking that this may be stupid, but maybe Telltale can fix this up in episode 5. See what I think is that he's been bottling up all these emotions in order to keep focused on the group. I think he's actually thinking about killing himself seeing how shits been thrown at him and he can never actually just sit down and think about what happened. I'm thinking that in the heat of No Going Back something's about to go down with Luke and he's probably gonna do himself in. Although if Telltale doesn't have ANY reactions at all in episode 5 seeing how Amid the Ruins was such a "tear fest" I'm just giving up any suspense.
This.
Giggity
I did feel bad about this too, until I've found this essay. Highly recommend you to read it, if you haven't yet. It gives good logical reasons.
I'm really looking forward for a scene like this.
Some people can't show sadness if they've used it too much.
And then he has a breakdown when he figures out Jane's feelings for him were only "lukewarm"
(sorry, I've had that stupid joke in my head for a couple of days now and needed to get rid of it.)
Oops, double post, internet or forums are acting a bit weird.
Yep, one of my posts was just shown 6 times.
6 times? Guess I got lucky. Thanks, good to know it's not something on my end.
Nah, it's all over the telltale forums. I've seen three or four double or triple post in the last 5 minutes.
Even if it's about a longtime friend?
XD
I think Luke expressing grief over Nick's death, in the form of tears, would be a good move on telltale's part.
Kenny shed tears over his wife and son.
And Clementine shed tears over Lee.
To see Luke break down like that, would be both realistic, and completely natural.
I've personally seen grown men, strong-tough men, cry like babies, when they lost someone close to them.
I myself have also wept, when someone I love passed away.
And I'm not a man who's given to crying!
So like said, Luke's weeping over Nick, would be completely appropriate, and natural.
I got the feeling Luke could crack in the last episode. Just that if their numbers fall even more, and there's added pressure to survive [and being around Kenny too] he might have a harder time keeping things bottled up like he's been doing up until now. But I don't count the lack of mention on Nick as lazy reading, simply that Clementine just wasn't around to witness his reaction to his friend's death the first time, and the second the situation couldn't allow for him to dwell on it long because they were in danger [Luke clearly goes to tell Rebecca about it, so they could've talked about it then.]
If Nick doesn't get a mention in Episode 5 or anybody else from the cabin group for that matter, then I will call that lazy writing because Luke was friends with them all and Nick was his friend of 20 years, even Pete he knew. So even if the shock of losing someone or being able to keep emotions under control can delay someone getting upset about it all right there on the spot, eventually it'll hit you with a vengeance.
Sadly that's true. it may seem like they are heartless, but on the inside, they're suffering greatly.
I get the vibe off Luke that he's trying very hard to convince himself that things aren't getting to him, but slowly failing at it.
Like how he calls Kenny broken and reckless, then immediately after it does something pretty reckless as well, and then completely loses his temper for the first time when Kenny scolds him for it. That's enough proof to me that Luke is breaking just as much as anyone else, but he's just in denial about it, or trying not to show. I'm pretty sure he'll break down at EP5.
Kenny admits to being broken, Luke does not, so when broken man Kenny himself calls him reckless on the deck, it's a like a stab to Luke's heart. We see him lose his temper for the first time as a result.
Luke was bottling his emotions successfully, and that was his plan. He doesn't share his emotions with us (Clem, a little girl) because he doesn't want to burden her with any more than he has to. He already knows she has baggage; why add to that? I believe when he met up with Jane, they did more than just bump'n'grind. They talked before and I think Luke actually let some of his pent up emotions out, and now he can't keep them at bay anymore. After she left, Luke seemed to overreact to her leaving compared to Nick's death (by hitting the observation deck wall), he had his first big outburst ("Everything's gone to SHIT!") and he started snapping at Kenny more. All seems like he can't keep it in anymore, right? He's been trying to keep it together so far, but I'm guessing he might crack even more after the gunfight. Maybe not immediately, but he will.
PTSD Is fun to live with,
I hope we do get a scene like this...
I'd call that lazy writing too if Nick doesn't even get a mention.
I really hope he cries and/or talk about it in the next episode.
Hopefully you're right, he's slowly failing at convincing himself.
I think it would make a great emotional scene to see Luke
finally get a proper reaction to Nick's death.
I personally think the only reason why he had such a small reaction is because there was so much going on, he thought it would be selfish to think about his own problems. Well, until jane came along and ruined that.
But, yeah, i would like a scene like that. It makes sense. Or another Luke and clem hug, so clem can comfort him. I guess.
I completely agree! One of the main things I'm super hoping will occur in the finale is seeing Luke crack. Not only will he finally be getting the slight character development he needs, but we'll be reminded that Luke still has and cherishes his humanity. It'll prove that the way he was written in 204 was intentional, and was just building up to his breaking point. Luke has always done everything he could to be a good leader, but now that nearly all of his previous group members have dropped like flies, it would be such a wasted opportunity to not have him express his heavily suppressed mixture of guilt and grief.
Little does Luke know that it was Lexi Porter that killed Nick so she could have Luke all to herself!
Definitely. I think it's not Luke's time to go yet, since hell, we know little nothing about him. I'm waiting for a back story about Luke's and Nick's childhood, maybe throwbacks showing the kids fool around the neighborhood while Luke tells how much he really misses his best friend.
But it's TellTale we're dealing with. No harsh feelings but sometimes the lack of certain emotions is upsetting
Ohh that dude kills it. Fuckin A. Is he on the forums??? He hit it straight up. Great find dude seriously everyone it's worth reading.
I wish he was here.
I think you're right about the denial thing. One thing I've noticed is Kenny lets his emotions out, yet it can sometimes take him a while to owe up to being in the wrong about something. Luke meanwhile owes up to his mistakes straight away, yet he bottles a lot of things up.
Michael does post on the forums, actually, yes! His username is the same as his url.
We need to see Luke break at this point. I'm with everyone else on this, if Luke doesn't finally talk about Nick in episode 5 I'll have lost just about all of my faith in Telltale because that's just lazy and inconsistent.
It's nice knowing he's among us
The Michael Among Us........
Luke copes with his problems by running away from them.
I hope that Luke lets out his emotions in episode 5 because people seem to think he either doesn't care or they don't seem to realise all he has lost, I've seen many people that have forgiven Kenny for episode 4 as he has lost so many people yet they don't seem to realise that Luke has too so surely if Kenny can be forgiven for loosing people so should Luke, I think that because he doesn't wear his heart on his sleeve people don't think that a Luke has basically now lost everyone (like Kenny) and so they don't use that as an 'excuse' to his actions like they do Kenny. so I am hoping he will let out his emotions so people can cut him some slack and realise no one is perfect or made of steal everyone has feelings they just choose to handle them in a different way, Luke pushes his feelings back because he feels the need to be there for the others in there greavings, he doesn't realise that this is bad to do as it means all of those emotions are built up inside and as he hasn't has much sleep from traveling to save them all from Carver and he hasn't had much food and got beat up by Carver when his emotions come out they will be twice as bad, it even worries me to think that Luke could even kill himself as we wouldn't be expecting it from him and we would expect it from Kenny at he moment.
How desperate are we that we want to see luke break? (Well i myself kind of want that, so everything he did last episode makes sense.)
THIS. I totally agree with you man, I give u a like.
