How TellTale could have handled Rebecca better

So, here's an idea I had of how TTG could have handled Rebecca's character in a better way and made choices sorta matter. So here's a change of character for Rebecca that I think would be interesting:

In Episode One: All That Remains, when you're in the kitchen and Rebecca comes in, if you choose the option "Whose baby is it?" Then after the 5-day skip in Ep2 you can apologize, saying you won't tell. Therefore, Rebecca can warm up to Clem and become closer.

However, if you choose to stay silent and not apologize, then Rebecca never truly warms up to Clem. She doesn't offer to hear the baby kicking, or for Clem to hold the baby. She'll say in the herd in Ep4 that Clem was, admittedly, the last person she wanted to find. She'll partially blame you for Alvin's death (either way), and she'll be mad at you for it.

But if you are defensive in the kitchen, she'll apologize for her behavior in Ep1 and in the kitchen in Ep2 about Carver. Their relationship will be the same.

So what do you think? Would you like this change? This ability to have a character like or hate you, not just like you? I, for one, would. It adds realism. It's something TellTale had with Kenny and Lilly in Season 1. You can get along with them or you can not.

Thoughts?

  • I would have liked if it went like that

So much for this game is tailored by how you play

  • Yeah, this may come off as just another "blah blah bad telltale shame" thread but I think it's just a cool idea of how Rebecca's character could be changed.

  • I would have preffered her to have more story than, she's pregnant and now shes dead (lori in the comics had more than that at least) but in reality thats what would happen in winter with no supplies or doctor. Carver basically told them all they should have stayed.

Her death was pretty strong for me though, she battled on and just died from pure exhaustion

So you would have liked her to have more of a branching personality too? And yes, I did like it Rebecca too. Her death was strong for me too.

  • I dont think having Rebecca hate Clementine would be too effective. It would only make things harder for the group when they really need everyone working together to get Rebecca through her pregnancy.

That sounds good. It would've made Season 2 more immersive with character relationships like in Season 1.

  • Fair enough…

But this wouldn't be a flat out argument on a day-to-day basis. It would...I guess, be a silent stare. An evil eye, if you will. Rebecca would just stay out of Clem's way. Even though, yes, it would kind of make things harder for her, she'd have already chosen that path.

  • Thanks. Considering I sort of improved this as I went along, it seems pretty good. <3

  • Actually, it seemed like something originally like this was going to happen. In the first 2 episodes, there was things on building trust between characters. I guess it must've been too complicated or time constrained because Telltale just abandoned all of this later on and killed most of the characters off quickly.

  • Either that or Pierre Shorette, the Ep3 writer, fucked it up.

  • Funny how Rebecca went from being a character that nobody liked, to a character that everybody likes (I personally love Rebecca, she reminds me of my mother before she passed away, bless her soul). I cried at Rebecca's death because it was so strong and sad, dying while holding her baby just made me break down. What you said would have probably made choices matter a lot more but I really liked Rebecca nevertheless.

  • Yes. As much as I loved episode 2, I was really disappointed that those choices didn't matter. I was really looking forward to seeing a growing rivalry between Clem and Rebecca.

  • It is kinda funny how Rebecca got so popular in TWD fan base over 3 episodes, lol. I was surprised but sad at her death.

    And bless your mother <3

Sad, my parents are gone too. I didn't cry, it was more of a "REALLY?"

  • I imagined myself as Rebecca before she died, she knew she was dying due to hypothermia and exhaustion, even though she was dying, she kept holding her baby, not letting the baby go, and when she died, the baby was crying so it broke me. So sad to see a baby without any of it's parents. Since being young at that age with no parents is just... Sorry about your parents, my mom died a few years back.

  • First of all, Jesus! No dislike button!

Alright. I think they could have Rebecca do thing toward Clementine depending on their relationship. Lets say in Episode 3, in Carver's community. Lets say we have a night in the yard and they are all preparing to eat supper. If Rebecca have a tense relationship with Clem, nothing happens. But if they have a good and growing relationship, we would see a scene where Rebecca share some supper with Clem, despite the fact she is pregnant. This would show us that Rebecca cares for Clem as much as she cares for her baby.

  • I would like that, it gives it a bit more realism to the situation.

  • Yay no more dislikes :D

That's a pretty cool idea, like something like this:

    Good relationship:

    "Hey Clem, how's your dinner?"

"It's okay. I didn't get an apple like you, buts that's fine."

    "Here, have mine."

    Y'know, something simple.

  • Im sorry to hear about your mom and I agree that Rebecca dying holding her baby was heartbreaking. She worked so hard to make sure he came into the world safe and she barely got to be a mom.

  • Plus, with all these Season 2 haters, we could use some realism.
