Alright, guys. I have to get ready for work, so I don't have time to write a whole essay. As you all know, I've been one of the people criticizing some of Season Two's aspects. From meaningless choices and deaths, to no character development and no story branching. For this very reason, I feel it's appropriate if I show my appreciation for what they did with the finale. Oh boy, did they leave their best for last.
Tense moments. Checked.
Choices that make you pause the game for a minute. Checked.
Story branching. We have FIVE different endings, if I'm correct. Double checked.
Replay value. Checked.
Character development. It wasn't the focus on this episode, but we still got to know a bit more about Luke and Jane. Checked.
Oh, and I hope Mike, Bonnie, and Arvo get the Carver treatment someday. I mean, I get Mike and Bonnie weren't the ones who shot her, but seriously? They just left her there? They're both foes in my book.
Also, R.I.P, Luke. I wasn't your biggest fan, but I find you way more likeable and good-humored after this episode. He wasn't shoved down our throats as a hero or being portrayed as a hopeless cretin. He was being himself this time around. Just a genuinely good guy you want to be around. You were an okay pal, kid. You're with your group now.
I'm ready for Season 3.
Comments
Even though I liked Kenny more... It was nice to see them get along at that Campfire.
Yeah, Luke redeemed himself in this episode. Even Kenny seemed to be turning around - only to lose my sympathy completely once he abused Arvo, alienated Mike, and refused to even listen to Jane.
Kenny redeemed himself in the ending, Imo.
Yeah, I let him kill Jane.
Yep. I didn't like the way he was used the first four episodes, at all. I can now say I don't dislike Luke. As a matter of fact, I was sad he died.
You have a point there. But to be fair, we later found out what Arvo and Mike are all about. Sure, you can say it was due to Kenny's behaviour, but I don't think being capable of leaving a shot child to die in the snow is something that just happens. In my opinion, this is who they are. Something they have in them to do.
Either way, even if that wasn't the case and it was just the moment, Kenny redeemed himself at the end.
I found it just a tad convenient that Arvo shooting Clem seemed to validate Kenny's constant abuse and racist mockery of him. At the same time, the fact that Mike - who fans have recognized as a strong yet reasonable and kind man - calls out Kenny on his abusiveness and sympathizes with Arvo leads me to still lend him the benefit of the doubt.
Regardless, if you shoot Kenny he realizes that he's too far gone. You can decide whether or not he can be forgiven. As far as I'm concerned, he was already dead.
Jane was a bitch though. What she did was nuts.
5 different endings in fact:
1. End up by yourself -- Leave Jane (My ending) or shoot both Kenny and Jane.
Go with Jane -- Let the group stay.
Go with Jane -- Force the group to leave .
Let Kenny kill Jane -- Stay at Wellington (Kenny leaves, since adults are not allowed).
Let Kenny kill Jane -- Leave with Kenny.
But I agree,TT outdid themselves this time. One of the best episodes so far (No wonder since it was deigned by Season 1's Harrison G. Pink)
There're 5:
Leave Kenny/Jane
Go with Jane, AJ and the family
Go with Jane and AJ
Go with Kenny, AJ
Go with AJ into Wellington
And yea, before Ep.5 release, I was like "Mike and Bonnie are pretty nice." And after Ep5, "Screw them, and Arvo: DAMN IT ARVO TTG GIVE US AN OPTION TO FUCKING KILL HIM!" The Episode is still good though
Why Clem, though? That's the problem here. If Arvo had shot someone else, fine. He shot a kid who had defended him throughout the episode. I mean, anyone can shoot a grown man and leave him to die. However, we're talking about a kid here. Whether they meant it or not, they're dead for me.
I can't defend hurting a child, either. Arvo panicked when Clem called for Kenny and was afraid she'd shoot him too. That really lowers my opinion of him.
But even if Bonnie and Mike cared about Clem, they were more afraid of Kenny and they wouldn't dare stay behind now that Clem was SHOT. If they had stayed behind or even tried to take her with them, it's probable Kenny would have bashed in all of their skulls.
These are all the endings possible:
Survive alone with AJ (Don't forgive Kenny/Jane or Both Kenny/Jane die)
Go with Kenny (Let him kill Jane) (Reach Wellington and stay with AJ leaving Kenny alone in the snow)
Go with Kenny (Let him kill Jane) (Reach Wellington and decide to leave Wellington and stay with Kenny and AJ)
Go with Jane (Shoot Kenny) (Reach Howe's Hardware Store and survive with Jane, AJ and a family)
Go with Jane (Shoot Kenny) (Reach Howe's Hardware Store and survive with Jane and AJ by yourselves)
So I take it this episode is better than the terrible mess that was Episode 4?
You didn't play it? Then how can you say clementine's story is over?
If you let Kenny kill Jane, you can shoot Kenny afterwards.
They can both die? I thought you had the option to not forgive Jane, but she dies?
Sounds over from what I read.
At least 3 times better. Personally, EP. 4 wasn't a mess, but those choices were terrible. You won't see that here. Nick did a great job cleaning other people's mess.
How did you kill both of them?
The way Bonnie yelled "Just leave her!" makes me think otherwise. If I ever see them again and they want to explain themselves, they better have some worth hearing excuses.
Also, I have to be in the mood that day to take anyone's crap. Until we know for sure, I'll believe what I saw. They left me to die, wounded.
Redeemed himself by attempting murder?
By sacrificing himself for Clem and the Baby.
When you let Kenny kill Jane, you can shoot him afterwards.
I have never felt so disturbed by Kenny as I did in this episode. I was practically wishing for his death near the end of the episode.
Then it came. And I still don't know what to feel.
Nick Breckon can make really hard decisions but he still can't write worth shit
I wasn't too happy with either Jane or Kenny.
What Jane did to the baby was indeed nuts...
He can. He's a great writer, as you can see from the reactions to the final episode. He wrote gut-wrenching, emotional moments and actually cleaned up a lot of the stuff Amid the Ruins did wrong. He offered us a great pay-off and found a way to make a kid work as a protagonist.
He's a great writer, and I'm sure we'll hear more from him in the future.
He blames Clem for Natasha's (?) death. He never saw Natasha turn, just that Clem shot her. He probably never realized how quickly a person can turn.
Also, any attempt for Clem to apologize was met with disdain. He had hate in his eyes whenever he glanced at Clem.
I do agree that, if given the chance, I will put him down without question.
You have the option to not forgive Jane, only if you shoot Kenny to get him off of her
I left with Kenny, but if you choose to stay in Wellington that scene is even sadder. Let's hope he can pull himself together now that he's seen how much My Clementine cares about him.
See what I did there?
Apparently you can shoot Kenny after you look away and he kills Jane.
Apparently you can shoot Kenny after you look away and he kills Jane.
Well, the episode was better than all the previous ones multiplied by 20. I'm not even trying to look for flaws now. I did enough of that throughout this season.
I guess that's the reason why. It's still on him, though. Sure, he didn't see what happened, but we did. From our perspective, he shot Clem for no reason. Oh, he shot her because he was wrong.
I obviously wouldn't have liked it if he shot Kenny, but could I really blame him? Definitely not. Kenny was pushing him around. However, shooting a kid was a mistake on his part.
Glad to see you're being rational. I can't defend what Arvo did to Clem, but I can understand why Mike and Bonnie felt sorry for him and would rather have left with him than remain with Kenny or Jane.
cmon man, the episode was so awesome
Yeah it was awesome but it was also full of illogical stuff
Who cares
No problem. I'm not some Kenny fanboy blinded by love.
Arvo shooting Kenny would've been completely understandable. Not something I approve of, but understandsble, nonetheless.
Arvo shooting Clementine is in no way an act I can undestand. Mike and Bonnie had every right to leave. The way they went about it is what disappointed me.
In my opinion, only everone surviving the shootout was a bit of a doo-doo. Everything else was kept in line for a zombie game. Specially when you look back at previous episodes.
