Thoughts on Episode 5

IMO episode 5 was pretty well done, generally. I am kinda lazy to talk about details too much, but I would love to hear what you guys think about this episode!

Good parts:

  • TT listened to their fans and created a variety of endings (4, if I'm not wrong) each with it's own unique twist to the ending of this story.
  • TT listened to their fans AGAIN by letting Lee come into a dream sequence, which had an impact on my emotions and I cried like a baby.
  • I felt like our choices REALLY mattered (for now)
  • Good dialogue choices, we got to know Luke, Bonnie and almost catch up on everyone in our group. It gave closure to Luke's character before he got the axe.
  • The episode was longer, once again TT listened to their fans.
  • A twist to the "Pizza vs Icecream" choice, I didn't expect Jane and Kenny to be fighting to their deaths like that.
  • A lot of surprises came along, especially in the way it ended I was like "ooooh snap I gotta do that again"
  • A lot of replay value, players will want to play again since the choices led to different endings and dialogues.

Bad parts:

  • The beginning of the episode was cool, but didn't really tie up to the previous episode. I remember EP4 ending off with a lot of gun shots and Clemmy's group was nowhere to be prepared for that. They were all unprotected, unorganised and were just pointing guns with people. It showed that the Russians were either lousy shooters, or the beginning just wasn't really that great.
  • I was so pissed off with certain characters, probably nothing to do with TT's writing though. Especially that shitbird Arvo (AFTER ALL I HAVE SPOKE TO KENNY ABT HIM THAT HE WAS SALVAGEABLE HE COMES TO PLANT A BULLET THROUGH MY SHOULDER) Bonnie and Mike... I don't know man. Just really disappointed with them.
  • I get that Luke died no matter what and I get that his death was somewhat amazing but seriously?? Bonnie? Don't you go shitting out on Clemmy when you were the one in EP4 saying that Kenny flipped his switch when Sarita died and started to go batshit crazy on me when you are doing the same now.
  • The constant choices for players to choose to hate Kenny or abandon him (Just like Sarah, EP4) like how was Luke's death even linked to Kenny? And how was the deaths of anybody linked to Kenny in this ep? IMO only his treatment towards Arvo was the "unappropriate behavior" <<< in which that birdshit betrayed us.
  • We didn't get a proper closure to Christa? I get that Wellington told us that Christa wasn't with them but I just wished there was some closure back there ;_;

Overall, this episode was pretty darn good and makes up for some of the mistakes they've made in previous S2 episodes. I personally loved it and would love to play it again. What about you guys? Let the discussions... begin!

/P.S: Does anyone know what happens if we choose to stay in Wellington and leave Kenny behind?

  • I don't know, but what happens if you look away, how does Jane die and what happened in your end?
I can tell you that Alvin JR, Jane and Me went to Howe's, looked at a terrifying corpse(Carver) and met a family of re-used models(Molly and that guy you give water to in Episode 2) and a boy who's supposedly starving (who looks like duck) and we let them into our "community".
I think that Clem could find walkers or some dangers at Howe's, to be more realistic.
They should also find a stash of hidden supplies, like the alcohol that was mentioned(when you all had Liquor and Jane and Luke where sharing "info" with us). I HOPE they do something with the endings and not just throw some stupid protagonist in that finds Clem and AJ at the place they were at, I also hope that they skip the whole "differerent ending" scheme and put them in the same spot, being like Vince, telling everyone what happened instead of the player experiencing it.
Anyways, those were MY different opinions, thank you for reading them!

  • In my playthrough, I looked away and let Kenny kill Jane. We then went to Wellington with AJ (found him in the truck) But Wellington was full-house and didn't accept anymore new members and thus Kenny sacrificed himself to let AJ and I enter Wellington. You can then choose to either enter Wellington alone, or go with Kenny still and not abandon him. Being the Kenny fan that I am, I didn't abandon him. The Wellington folks then voluntarily gave us two bags of supplies and we headed off into the snow. I was pretty happy with this ending!

IMO the endings all pretty much made sense except Jane's ending (if you chose to shoot/abandon Kenny and go with Jane) as I heard from you and many others on the forum that the random survivors that came had a kid and two adults. I understand what you mean, but I guess we can't expect much when they have already came out with several endings and I guess they ran out of ideas. I would wish for Jane's ending to go some route like Jane and Clementine reach Carver's place, and met up with Bonnie, Mike and Arvo, or someone they knew. It didn't make sense for me too, when I saw those survivors and having the entire Jane story to end off with "Your hat is cool".

    You're very welcome!

  • Meeting up with Arvo? They'd probably kill each other. Besides, I think Mike wanted to head to Mexico.

Don't forget the significance of Clementine finding a boy her age. He and AJ are the only male children in Season 2.

I personally thought that episode 5 was bad.. (sorry) The first part when everyone was laughing and stuff was good, but after that too much stuff happened (SPOILERSS!!) luke died, mike, bonnie and arvo abandoned everyone, kenny/jane died (depends) the new people came to the hardware store and.. oh yeah that reminded me they found the frickin hardware store.. ps. some of the stuff was unreal.. like the baby would've never survived 9 days without baby formula (they were low on it) and shoudnt zombies drown by being underwater for.. i dont know 3 minutes?? im just pissed but that my opinion on the episode. Sorry to disturb you ._. (and the ending sucked)

  • I didn't like how Christa wasn't involved in any way like I thought she was going to be. I was waiting for that one reunion between her and Kenny and I'm disappointed how they didn't bring her back.

If you choose to stay in Wellington with AJ and leave Kenny, Kenny and Clementine have their final bonding moment together and he gives his hat to her to give to AJ for when he grows up. Kenny and Clementine are also in tears and Kenny says he glad he got to meet her. Then as you enter Wellington, the doors close as you see Kenny walking off into the snow with a bag of supplies.

I thought that they would've shown Christa in Wellington if we went in there, but apparently not

  • To be honest, the main attraction Wellington posed to me was the possibility of finding Christa there. Even so, it was also the safest possible place to be and Clem stood a better chance of waiting for Christa in safety rather than taking her chances in the wilderness.
