Why is Kenny so popular?
I can appreciate Kenny for the well written and complex character he is, but I've never liked him. Since the very beginning, even before loosing his family, he got himself known for unpredictable and non loyal behavior; killing Lilly's father (which was the main reason why she's gone off the deep end), then leaving Lee for walkers when he got pinned down, or Ben situation near the end. Not to mention that Kenny was the first one to give up on Lee when he got bit, just as he was always quick to made hard decisions when it came to others – not so when Duck got bit.
So It’s not even that Kenny wasn't himself anymore in Se2. He always had a habit of getting all obsessive about his ideas, blaming everyone but himself and was unable to bear disapproval. He simply become more vile and ruthless.
Even the most loyal dog can bite his beloved owner when he feels cornered – same applies to humans. Some people are stronger, some weaker, but in the end everyone has their limits and Kenny kept pushing those around him to the point where all they wanted was to have a moment of peace. Was Bonnie a bad person? Was Mike a bad person? I can imagine that even Luke would've wanted to get away from Kenny at that point if he wasn't already dead due to Kenny's stupidity.
I could understand those who defend Kenny if at the very least his actions were rational, as in pragmatic, like Shane’s in the TV series, but he acted solely on his emotions. He felt guilty and was obsessively trying to protect both Clem and AJ not to render all that he has done meaningless. But he was a dangerous man that couldn't be trusted, heck, he couldn't be trusted to begin with and at some point he was more concerned about taking vengeance on a kid than setting fire for Clem when she could freeze to death. He was capable of anything when he was angry, even hurting those who he supposedly looked for.
Jane was far from being perfect, sure, but she was reasonable. One can argue whenever she was loyal to Clem, or simply couldn't bear to be alone anymore and wanted a friend, but the fact remains that she cared for her and saved Clem’s hide more than enough to prove that. She came back to the group for her, rescued her when she fell under the ice, stayed with her when Clem got shot. And finally, she didn't have to risk her life in confrontation with Kenny, having a perfect opportunity to run away and be at her own again, but she stayed. In my book that stands for something.
IMO It’s unfair to judge Jane for her every mistake, yet rationalize all that Kenny has done. Jane’s main fault was that she was antisocial and cold to people at times, but she didn't do anything half as bad as Kenny. In fact, she felt wrong about killing a guy who never wronged her. Kenny never had a second thought about his actions.
Faking AJ's death was stupid and reckless, but I can understand why she did it. To be honest, imagining myself in her place, I’d try to get rid of/away from Kenny as well. He was the reason why the group fell apart.

I love Kenny because he is unpredictable and stayed loyal to my Lee..I consider him as my family. It suprises me that this kind of character has such a huge fanbase.(I thought everyone would hate him because he acts stupid sometimes..)
Considering most of the endings tailored heavily to favor Kenny.. Even when he still gets shot by Clementine..
I have no idea why Kenny is so popular (same thing with Nate but that's another story, lol), but maybe people see a bit of themselves in someone who is so severely flawed and they relate to him. It also could be because he's had more focus and screentime than anyone other than Clementine.
Kenny is love. Kenny is life.
Kenny is love. Kenny is life.
Kenny is awesome
Repost,
Because they've known him for longer which apparently makes someone likable (nostalgia goggles and all that) and the writers are biased towards Kenny, so he gets loads of fanservice.
Also, on the forum you're hated if you don't like Kenny, so I bet lots of people just like him to fit in.
Kenny bandwagoning. It's what led to the creation of the KDB, a year ago. Luckily they disbanded a few weeks ago when downvotes were removed, but a few still plague the forums with intolerance.
He wears his feelings on the outside, never lies and always does what he think is right. He is pretty much Jesus.
Why do I have a feeling that you're mad because of kenny's big fanbase?People happen to like him.Nobody forced them to.
Because people like him.
I believe Kenny is so popular due to the experiences and bond shared throughout the main characters. Kenny along with his family were basically the the first family Lee and Clementine met, Clementine grew fond of Katjaa due to her motherly tendency which Clementine is now beginning to crave after the disappearance of her mother and friend (Her babysitter). She made a bond no matter how small with Duck due to him being the only over child within Clementines reach. The group stay strong throughout their en devours and bond strongly. Eventually at the end of season 1 Clementine looses everything, her loyal guardian or as I personally believe new 'father' Lee, and her dear friend Kenny. In season 2 when they are reunited the sparks connect just like old time. This shows the deep bond forged in the first season. It could be interpreted that Clementine (being young) believes it to be some what of a miracle. You could argue that Clem has matured past these beliefs but as the second series is about, it is your Clementine. In the end, if you keep that bond strong and make it to Wellington Kenny is somewhat restored. His explosion of kindness and caring for Clementine shocked me and I think I can say many others. In the end no matter your choice Kenny seems to personally level off his sins, he has done wrong, for example Larry. However, I think that the lasting bond between him and Clem and the final scene if you stay strong to this bond shows the new Kenny. However, this is a opinion. I would only be able to prove this if season three includes Kenny and Clem if you decided to leave with him. I hope this helps somewhat and would like to hear others opinions.
Oh and who else cried when Kenny offered to leave if they took the kids. Hit me in the heart .
Season 2 Kenny is awesome. Jane was a bitch, always talking shit about Kenny. The decision would of been a lot harder if Luke vs Kenny, but since it was Jane...
I don't understand why Kenny is your profile picture if you hate him so much
I wouldn't say so. I like the ending with Jane the most, especially that I don't trust in Wellington in the slightest. The only healthy and prospering community in TWD universe is Rick's, so far, and that's only because they're self-reliant and guard themselves.
The Wellington community was already overcrowded and low on supplies.
This is one of the best realization threads I've read in a while here. Jane may have done less trouble that Kenny have, but considering how long we have been with Jane, I fear her way of life would very very unsettling on others if time went on and on with her.
Oh no you didnt compare Kenny to Jesus, lol
Everytime I see a thread like this, I ask myself: Why do people care so much?
Well she did shoot troy in the penis, and as a man that made me squeem in real life. I knew then she couldn't be trusted.
He talked just as much shit about her. They were locked in mutual hatred lol.
Yeah but as a Kenny fan i have selective hearing
You love to spam. Spam is your life.
I don't even know why I like him. But i do. He became family, he's damn interesting and deep down inside has a good heart.
I was with the baby at the end. But i saw the Wellington ending and it was a beautiful ending.
for me because of season one was so emotional investing in the character,i love the guy!
Okay, that made me laugh lol
Not really sure. Well S1Ep1 liked him because he saved Lee at the end. He went straight ahead and got himself shot, so to me he seemed reckless but he really put his family above all else so I can respect that. Despite how he is now before losing his family he was a pretty darn good survivalist as well by making difficult decisions or even cruel ones (killing Larry, suggesting Lee shouldn't put the screaming woman out of her misery so they can collect more supplies) And in 103 he was the one who lost the most. Kenny had to see both his son and wife meet their end but in spite of this he still carried on and he tried to have hope and didn't become like Lilly. Kenny is also a pretty funny guy in a redneck sort of way but he isn't racist either. He has his faults and he's very cruel to people who he doesn't like but he's strong physically and emotionally. And in 105 he ''sacrifices'' himself so Ben didn't have to go through his worst fear in his last moments and that really sealed the deal for me.
And in S2 same thing happened with Sarita and he grew more reckless. He hasn't been the same since 103 and he never will. He stood up for Clementine in 203 and took a beating. He carried on after Sarita and tried to grab on to hope in the form of saving a baby. Now some people do criticize him and in a sense the way he was with the baby might even have been creepy in the sense that he acted as if it were his own but from the comics you'd see that during dire instances people latch onto even the most shrewd forms of hope.
Now I don't criticize Jane. She was trying to prove a point, she had good intentions for Clementine because she probably believed Kenny would end up ending Clementine but I think the point is proved wrong when Kenny decides to give the baby up and just end all his ties for living on. Jane risked her life for Clementine's sake in a sense as well. She didn't even have to get involved with the group, she did it for Clementine.
Kenny was a real dick to other people in the group I won't argue that. But he does listen to Clem when Clem asks him to stop hitting he does. He trusts clementine and nobody else. But in a way the cabin group kind of lead to the death of Kenny's group they wouldn't even be involved with Carver if they hadn't showed up. It's obviously not fair to blame the cabin group but I think he just decided on blaming them because of his rage, he even blames Clementine for killing Sarita in rage. I think the thing about Kenny is if you know him and the way he is (hotheaded, reckless) and try to still understand him you can really see that he is a good man still despite all his flaws. After killing Jane he realizes it was wrong, he acknowledges how they should have saved Alvin. I think if the group knew him as well as Clementine did and they were patient with him he could have proved himself better.
He's one of the most loneliest characters in 205 and even though he doesn't admit it I think all Kenny ever craved for is trust and love and when I chose to leave with Kenny I think that he knew that after Sarita he wasn't going to be alone anymore because Clementine cares about him more than her own safety.
So I think the presence of having these flaws and good qualities as well as the occasional humor makes him a likable character. Players who don't mind him being hot headed or annoying can learn to taking a liking to him but I can definitely see why people can think he's a liability, an asshole and completely annoying. I think his flaws as a character and his dedication to his loved ones give him a cult like following. He's certainly been my favourite character after Clementine and Lee.
I like Kenny because he's problematic, emotional, irrational. Because he's...human.
For me, he's the one that got me immersed in the world of S2. I'd get irritated and shout at him when he started arguing with the group, I'd feel sad when he talked about his family, I'd want to crawl into a ball and roll off a cliff when he called Clementine cute names like "darlin" and "sweetheart". Kenny's voice actor also did a marvelous job which helps greatly in how I feel about a character.
He messed up when he yelled at Clementine, then he apologizes and turns those big brown eyes on me and I'm helpless to stay mad at him.
I think it depends on how empathic you are to how much you're going to like Kenny; I admit he doesn't make it easy for you to like him sometimes with his stubborn "I'm always right" attitude.
because of his voice ,his beard, his past, his behaviors, his actions, his loyalty, his sacrifices and his pertinacity.
He doesn't hate him, he hates how his fans hate everything that doesn't like Kenny.
well at least you admit it
I'm going to disagree with the 'antisocial' assessment. She seems more introverted than antisocial. Kenny was antisocial near the end. His disregard for the opinions of the other members of the group, his hostility - those are the hallmarks of an antisocial personality, not being quiet and distant.
Jane is unsocial not antisocial. Very different things.
No, he really seems to hate Kenny like hell. Look at his other posts.
I don't hate anyone who doesn't like Kenny, and so do most other Kenny fans. Please. Some Lilly fans weren't better, but there were less of them in the first place.
I feel exactly the same as you do... everything you typed was how I thought too. I never actually had the huge amount of feelings for him from the moment he killed Larry and hated Ben to now, was the time period I slowly started losing respect for him. That's what most die hard Kenny fans don't realize or understand. Is how much of an asshole he is. Imagine dealing with him in real life...
My mistake then. Introverted and uneasy around ppl is what I meant.
I wonder seriously how they're going to start Season 3, are they going to just divide the story, or are they going to pick one ending, set that as Cannon, and go that way.
My post probably came out a lot more harsh than I wanted to be but that's what I mean pretty much "Introverted and uneasy around ppl"
Well,I think it's because people see some trait similarities with him so they are showing sympathy to him,and you can make the same conclusion with Nate.
My post probably came out a too harsh than I wanted it to be but that's what I mean "Introverted and uneasy around ppl"
I agree with you about the Jane ending, but I disagree that the endings weren't tailored towards Kenny. Those endings obviously had more work put into them. They were happy, hopeful, and Kenny always turned out right, no matter how importable that would have been in real life.
