My Thoughts/Experience on "No Going Back" & on Kenny/Jane *SPOILERS*

TL;DR at the bottom for those who don't feel like reading my rambling :)

Wow, two days later and I'm my achy heart is still sinking, not just by the conclusion of the season finale, but also the fact that we're going to have to wait quite a while for season 3. From Luke dying, Bonnie and Mike leaving the group, Clementine being shot by Arvo, to the difficult (at least for me) decision to either shoot Kenny or to let him murder Jane, it was just a bunch of shocking and tough experiences to witness all in a short period of time.

Luke drowning was such an awful thing to see. A man that had the skillset and the attitude to become a great leader was gone in an instant. I had no emotion over his death. I was completely numb to have witnessed the person I believed was the glue keeping our group together ripped away from us so quickly.

I realized that without Luke, the group would start to fall apart ,and it did. I thought that Bonnie and Mike running away and taking all of the supplies was a brilliant twist, if not quite out of character for Mike. Arvo shooting Clementine really brought my blood to a boil.

Now comes up the biggest decision many of us had to make in TWDG, to shoot Kenny, or to let Kenny murder Jane for her supposed murder/loss of AJ.

I looked away and let Kenny murder Jane, even though I was able to figure out her plan before she told me to trust her on her plan. I'm sure many of you also were able to figure out her plan and her reason behind it before she carried it out. My Clementine already knew about Kenny's uncontrollable anger at times, two examples are when he literally carves Carver's face (lol), and how he explodes at Clementine after the incident with Sarita.

When the actual decision came down to killing Kenny or letting Jane die, I realized just how much Kenny had lost, and that AJ and Clementine was all he had left. I couldn't be the one to pull the trigger on him, so I made the incredibly hard decision to look away, and then decide not to go to Wellington, but to stay with Kenny after his speech, which made me tear up so much. Fantastic work Telltale, you did it again!

On the whole Kenny/Jane debate, I feel in my opinion, that both of them would do a fantastic job of taking care of Clementine and AJ. For Kenny, Clem and AJ are the family he wishes he still had, and the same goes for Jane, with Clementine being the sister she wish she had, and AJ the baby they would both protect with their lives.

While Kenny can lose control of his emotions and become unreasonably reckless (which has been seen many times in this season alone), he always stays true in protecting his family, and to do whatever it takes to keep them alive. If anything were to happen to AJ, I feel that Kenny would lose his mind, but many people are coming to the conclusion that if AJ were to die by Clementine's mistake, that he may even go as far as harming her. I believe that to be quite a strong prediction to make. I can't see Kenny harming Clementine over something like that, but he would most likely be in a depressed, hopeless state that Clementine would have to get him out of. Kenny reacted the way he did because he believed that Jane wanted to abandon the baby. Clementine will do whatever she can to keep AJ alive, and Kenny knows that.

Jane on the other hand, does not have the same attachment to AJ as Kenny (at least not yet, which will most likely change for those who decided to save Jane), may abandon him if put under an overwhelming desperate situation, but that seems unlikely after her attempt to save Sarah (if the player chose that option) and in coming back to save the group, and even having to kill a live person to do so. She is a smart individual, who can do a very good job defending herself, and will definitely pass down her skills to Clementine. Jane has shown her loyalty to Clementine and that she will be with her until the end.

Both Kenny and Jane easily have the ability fine in taking care of AJ and Clementine, and the passion from both Kenny and Jane supporters explaining on why their person is the better than the other only proves that.

TL;DR Luke's death broke the already fragile group apart, Bonnie and Mike abandoning the group was shocking (ooc for Mike), and despite their issues, both Kenny and Jane will do fine to protect Clem and AJ. Amazing work TTG.

Would love to hear all of your thoughts on this episode!

  • THANK YOU. ALL THE KENNY HATERS LOVE SAYING HOW KENNY WOULD'VE INTENTIONALLY KILLED CLEMENTINE. HE LOVED HER!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I had the same ending. It's the only ending I was actually able to smile or feel happy about.

  • I don't think I seen anyone say that Kenny would have intentionally killed Clementine. Unless I'm wrong?

A lot of people have been insinuating this, saying that it's only a matter of time until Clementine is next, meaning that Kenny will blow up on Clem for doing something wrong and ultimately be killed by him.

  • Oh okay. Well I certainly believe that Kenny wouldn't do that considering how much he cares for Clem.

  • I agree. I know men who are as volatile and angry/if not more so than Kenny when they have their bouts of depression/anger/whatever, and I have never been hurt/physically abused by them.

  • Good. Men who do that make me feel ashamed of my gender sometimes. :( That certainly wasn't the way I was raised.

  • It's complicated for both genders. I am a woman and I have anger problems, maybe that's why I can sympathize with Kenny so well, and also because many of the men I know remind me of him for various reasons (doing anything to protect their families, overall being a redneck like me, being a manly man... etc. ;) )

It's just far easier for me to understand where Kenny was coming from. And we can't control ourselves sometimes when we're that pissed. I'm not excusing it in any way, but I still trust Kenny.

  • Yeah, good point :)

We all know Kenny to be a hot tempered, at times unstable guy, but, I still trust him too.

  • Exactly, Kenny may have his moments of intense anger, but I am certain that he would never let himself go to the point of harming anyone that he would consider to be his family, he just isn't that type of person.

  • Hey, I just saw your profile! Welcome to the forums friend. :)

And in response to your reply, I agree about Kenny.

People (man and woman) hurt people they love unintentionally. Kenny was not abusive to Kat or Duck, and just because he was emotionally drained from the events of Season 2 and emotionally fragile doesn't make him a bad guy. Sometimes we just lose it. And if you ask me, Jane could've stopped it by saying AJ was alive. But she felt we would only see the blind rage coming from Kenny, and ignore the fact that he was our friend (at least for the people who liked him in Season 1 and 2).

  • Tread carefully, the forum is ripe with people ready (and wanting) to cut you down for standing by Kenny. And at general war for the ending of Season 2. But there's plenty of good folk on here too. So just have fun with it. ;)

  • Yeah, its ridiculous. And some are also cutting others down for choosing Jane. If ya ask me, Kenny vs Jane threads are getting silly and they need to stop.

  • Yeah I've seen some rather harsh things being said while looking at these Kenny vs Jane posts, hopefully once the wounds that this episode has left heal a bit people will settle down a tad.
