The only way determinant characters can work

So they have been hit and miss this season but there seems to be more and more determinant characters. However for me the only way characters with optional fates can work is in a Carley/Doug sense.

Ben,Alvin etc can work for a short period and maybe have a few additional scenes but at the end of the day only if they are quiet to begin with so it makes sense and in a grand scheme not much can be done afterwards as there is no alternative for people who dont have them and therefore they cant do anything major storywise.

Carley and Doug worked because in every scene there had to be one of them, so the story could work and include them, even if who they were was different. I'm not just saying it should be a choose between them thing but provide people with alternatives, for example say we save Sarah however if we do Jane dies. Therefore from then on we have either Jane or Sarah and scenes can be made to include either character, other characters can then react to this other person. If anything its easier than designing two different scenes.

To summarise the only way Kenny and Jane have any shot is to give the people who went alone/Wellington a third alternative character for clem to be with.

I completely disagree, I think the only limitaitons are the writer's imaginations and the economical aspects of creating optional scenes.

  • But they couldnt. Once Nick was dead he couldnt do anything storywise at all, as some people didnt have him anymore. Just an extra background face, other characters couldnt acknowledge him

  • Nope, the only thing that needs in the code is a flag that checks whether or not he's alive. It is however expensive to make up for choices in terms of animation and vo work, especially when it's a single unique character that may not be there.

Nick, as an example, could have been perfectly fitted into roles in the remainder of the season as long as it wasn't something crucial such as boosting her up, which became Mike's role.
