Season 2 Review - focusing on the finale episode!

Ok Hi Guys,

Basically, I'm giving a quick review on what I liked and didn't like in this season 2 of the Walking Dead. Keep in mind this is just my opinion, it's not necessarily right!

To start off on episode 1, i really enjoyed the intro. The intense moment when Omid died was really engaging straight away. I found it very stupid though that Christa was lost a couple minutes later. I think it would have been nicer if we had at least one character from season 1 transfer over to season 2 straight away. I was quite disappointed also that there was that huge jump like 18 months later??? or whatever it was? It seemed like a long time of just blank information that we didn't know (Christa's baby etc). Finally meeting up with the group i personally didn't like any of the characters, not like them as in thought they were good people but i didn't like the type of characters telltale had created. I hated the doctor and his annoying little girl, i hated alvin tbh and i thought nick and pete were boring. Luke was ok, but still nothing like the 1st season characters. I also was extremely disappointed that the end decision didn't really matter - pete was already bit.

Overall though it wasn't a bad way to get going after season 1 + 400 days.

Episode 2 was probably my favourite episode of the series, i don't know why but i loved the whole thing. I thought the start scene with nick (i chose to save nick) was strong and i enjoyed Carver busting in and interrogating clem. The bridge, the lodge, the chase - all amazing. The new person being Kenny i felt was nice, i personally didn't think so, but i always loved kenny, he's always been loyal and good to lee and clem the whole way through. The choice in this episode were great too. So many characters could be saved or killed in this episode, which carry over to the next couple of episodes! i think nick, alvin and possibly the doc - maybe more? I also loved/hated being backstabbed by bonnie after walter gave her a box of food. Walter also i was disappointed to see die, he could have been such a great addition. It was nice to see the first inclusion from the 400 days characters also - bonnie. I also did see a slight change in Kenny, which was done well by telltale.

Episode 3 i thought was going to be my favourite but i was sadly disappointed, i felt like the town you went to (can't remember the name), was going to be full of action and the 400 days dlc would have had more impact. I mean sure, you saw most characters from 400 days working inside the town, but realistically it was only bonnie that had any sort of impact - i hated this! I did love the brutality in this episode, seeing kenny get beaten almost to death and then carver bashed with the crowbar, it was graphic stuff, even for computerised images. Again it showed why kenny was still my favourite, he openly took the beating for clem. This episode introduced mike and jane to the group. Personally i hated jane in this episode, she was such a B*tch and did anyone feel a slight molly vibe from her in season 1? Honestly when i first saw her i thought it was molly, that had cut her blonde hair even shorter. I also was getting really sick of the baby and the pregnancy. Yes, i know that's heartless, but it really was just an annoying liability and it still annoys me that the group would put the baby before everyone else. Purely because, if there not around the baby will die anyway!!! god it annoyed me. I also would have liked to see more impact from the large herd of walkers, they didn't frighten me like they should've, haha.

Episode 4 was probably the worst episode of the series, i was hugely disappointed by it. Ok there were some good moments, but overall i thought it was weak, considering i felt that ep 4 should've been stronger. I did enjoy the character development in this episode though! Up until this point i still felt like lots of the characters were strangers and we really only new the surface of them. Jane was obviously meant to look appealing in this episode as she appeared to be a good survivalist and level headed person that really respected clem. I feel Mike was still a stranger but he did have his moments - saving bonnie/clem from the walker inside the history place. Luke and Jane having sex was a light touch that i enjoyed, it was finally good to see really human feelings being expressed which made the story seem more realistic. The Russian boy i hated right from the start, I did end up taking the medicine. The end scene was weak in my opinion. I hated how the guns firing rapidly left off. It gave us nothing, many people believed that it was the final episode and our group all died.

Episode 5
I played this episode last night, so i will be giving a more depth review.

Overall i thought it was good. Season 2 didn't really have a strong story line like season 1 that flowed through from 1-5 but i feel like the choices and events in episode 5 really summed up this season well. After killing the group and our group being basically unharmed (except for luke), i felt that the entire episode of season 4 was a waste of space, like really what was the point of the last scene??? lol. Anyhow, it was nice to see the return of jane, at this point i was very happy she was back. Arvo leading us to supplies, i always thought was a bad idea but we were forced to go along. The russian was broken from the death of his sister and without sounding too harsh was of no use to us anymore. I enjoyed the campfire scene, it was the first time a conversation felt real and we finally go to know a bit more about the group (luke - college). I found it funny how the group teased luke about how long he lasted with jane in bed - nice touch. Little AJ was quite cute and I thought he would annoy me more than he did, which i was happy about! I hated the death of luke and bonnie, i have only played once through so I'm not sure if this is a certain death moment but i picked a choice that would have luke and bonnie (two very strong and developed characters up until this point) die by falling through ice. It wasn't even a big thing for the group it was just moment grief and that was it. I though thoroughly disappointed by these deaths and by other deaths in season 2 that i forgot to touch on. When kenny got the truck running i felt a relieved. The betrayal by arvo and mike was really strong , i loved this bit. You obviously could tell arvo would try something like this, but mike??? big shock. Personally, i didn't quite understand the point of the dream scene with Lee? although it was nice, i still didn't get the value of it? Although i thought this episode would have lee in it after hearing his voice at the start of the episode bring in "PREVIOUSLY ON THE WALKING DEAD". The end scene of kenny and jane was meh, i thought the fight was pretty stupid i would've liked to see something else. I played this ending twice on my game. The first time i picked to shoot kenny, just purely because i felt like the outcome wouldn't have mattered sense it was the end of the season? if that makes sense. And then found out of jane's sick plan, of seeing what kenny would do at the death of little AJ. I immediately changed my decision and let kenny kill that messed up b*tch. The end choice of leaving kenny for that village or not was hard i literally waited 5 minutes. I didn't wanna leave him but i chose to purely because i really wanna see who's inside the city and i feel like that kenny and jane are both going to die early in season 3 anyway.

Ultimately, Why i didn't enjoy this season was because i felt like the dlc 400 days was totally pointless, like we surely could have just met bonnie along the way? and i also feel like not knowing what happened to Krista annoys the shit out of me. But also i thought we may have seen Lily or molly from season 1? There were so many questions left unanswered which i didn't like.

Thats a rap.

Overall this is how my order of episodes go from season 1 and season 2

Season 1 - 3>1>2>4>5 (Very close, loved every episode) / Season 2 - 2>5>3>1>4

Tell me you opinions on the episodes of season 2 and possibly season 1? Also any predictions for season 3?

Thanks guys

I enjoyed season 2 a bit more than season 1. Sure, it has had it's fair share of unrealistic moments, but at least I won't have to go through the map on the train puzzle again. Plus, I think that around every corner is a very very weak episode (sewer section, Crawford, Molly).

I love both seasons. Season one is the better experience, while I think that season two is more enjoyable. It's definitely more realistic in terms of deaths and violence, plus, we don't have a Molly this season (gosh, that climbing stuff she was doing was ridiculous). But then again, I can understand everyone who does not see it that way.

    My ranking:

    1. No Going Back (205)
    2. No Time Left (105)
    3. Long Road Ahead (103)
    4. All That Remains (201)
    5. Starved For Help (102)
    6. A House Divided (202)
    7. In Harm's Way / Amid The Ruins (203/204)
    8. A New Day (101)
    9. Around Every Corner (104)
    10. 400 Days (106)
  • Yeah ill agree with that!

I think the map puzzle was excruciating for everyone lol.

I think what annoyed me the most was the 400 days connection. I understand that people will argue that it's possibly going to have more impact in season 3 etc. But it was supposed to be a link between season 1-2. I think the fact that we only really got to see Bonnie annoyed me.

Personally season 1 was probably better for me purely because it was a completely new concept. But i felt on edge the whole time in season 1, except for brief moments, i didn't feel that anxious at all through season 2.

I personally thought the crawford break in was cool. But personally i dont think anything will beat the rush of the bandit break in in episode 103.

  • Hahah.

I remember thinking the exact same thing. Telltale surely were trolling with that?

    What were your favourite episodes?

I dunno what it was about All that Remains and A House Divided, but I felt myself utterly immersed in them far more than any episode. In All that Remains I felt genuinely concerned and terrified with Clem for the whole episode and there was this awesome feeling of warmth throughout the majority of A House Divided. (Then Carver of course ruins it :c)
