The GOTY is Season 1. It consists of 5 Episodes, which where periodically released in 2012.
It has one DLC, 400 Days, which isn't included in the full prize of Season 1. It is mostly optional, but it can't hurt to play it.
Then there's Season 2, a new, full prize game, also consisting of 5 Episodes. 201 released in December 2013, Episode 5 last Tuesday. DLCs for Season 2 have yet to be announced.
This game works episodically, or better, worked. (for now.)
You first play Episode 1, then you'd usually wait for Episode 2 to be released. You're in luck, Episode 5 of the second Season arrived last week, so you didn't have to wait for the whole thing to periodically come out, but you can enjoy it in one piece.
A third Season has already been confirmed, but it won't be out any time soon (probably 12-16 months).

The game is not canon to the show, but to the comcis the show is based on. There are only some minor cameos in 101 of the game, for the rest you don't really need to know more to enjoy it.
Nevermind, I play on steam so it's a bit different. Like Dojo said, the GOTY edition has season 1 and its DLC in it. Season 2's disc is not out yet, I think (the season just ended).

Like it?? Man I LOVE it. It's wild. I am about to start chapter 3 after just fighting off the cannibals. I guessed they were cannibals but I didn't know HOW gruesome it would be. Man.
I'm gonna play through again for some different scenes and like someone said you can't save everyone. I wonder how it would be different if I didn't save Carley for example. And sometimes you have only two seconds to make a choice. I play with headphones on so the creepy music adds a lot to the atmosphere. I'm going to look at their other games now.
Also, no matter how I search I can't find any information on HOW it happened, I got that it was a "virus" but that's it. I can't believe there's no reason given.

They are totally worth it. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll go through a whole range of emotions. It's amazing. Never had a game touch me like this before.
It basicly is you playing the same stage of a really boring game again and again, with stupid AI, grafics worst that those in the beggining of the century and a story as blanck as my mind when I am in French class.

On episode 5. Man what IS it with this game? Freaking EVERYONE dies and in my opinion that's TOO many characters dying. Is this whole story about Clementine? Seriousely beginning to not like this game. Poorly written, WAY too many main characters dying. Never saw the TV show as I haven't watched TV since the fall of the Berlin Wall so I have no idea what the show is like but this is way over the top as far as writing goes and I write books myself. I would never kill off this many people so frequently. It's very predictable.
I tried about fifty times to get Lee through the street, the controls SUCK on this game, way too flaky. Game over, going to be sold at Gamestop. Will watch YT's to see how it ends.

I still liked the game mechanics of Last Of Us better because I'm a FPS kinda guy. I had a VERY hard time with the QTE shooting at the motor inn.

The last of us is not an fps. It is a 3rd person shooter. And it really depends on what console you are playing. The game is way easier on the pc.
