Kenny, Mike and Carver

I was thinking back to Mike going with Bonnie and Arvo; a lot of people are saying that was out of character, but was it? We only knew Mike for a few days, and Bonnie seems to be somebody who, despite good intentions, fails to do what is necessary. The lack of characterization isn't bad writing, it's just a matter of how little time we had to get to know them. I'm not saying Kenny is/ will become a new Carver, but to what extent might Bonnie's, and especially Mike's, experience with Carver shaped how he reacted Kenny. Might he have seen Kenny and thought back on how Carver became how he was? He didn't leave because he was afraid of how Kenny was, but of what Kenny might become?

Comments

  • I understood why mike left, he was scared of Kenny. He was always making those comments in episode 4, 5 about how he was hard to deal with. I don't understand why Bonnie ran off with Mike/Arvo, unless to escape Kenny, however she is a coward which would make me think she would stay with the group.

  • Personally, I see Mike and Bonnie as traitors.
They side with some Russian kid, who was going to rob them of everything they had, and was also willing to kill them if necessary.
Which he proved when he shot Clementine, a child, in the shoulder.

As far as I'm concerned, I don't ever want to see either one of them again.

  • Yeah but stealing the damn truck and everything else? Jesus are you fucking kidding me?

  • There are some similarities between Kenny and Carver.

They've killed: Carver killed Reggie because he thought it was necessary, Kenny killed Larry because he thought it was necessary.

The Cabin Group lived under Carver and they feared him, the new group lived with Kenny, who took charge most of the time, and they feared him.

Carver bashed Kenny's face in and beat him to an inch of his life, Kenny bashed Arvo's face in and beat him to an inch of his life.

Carver has his own view of the word 'respect', Kenny has his own view of the word 'respect'.

Carver's anger has gotten the better of him, Kenny's anger has gotten the better of him.

    They both have hair.

    They both are males.

Not saying that Kenny is Carver, but there are quite a few similarities.

  • You could do this with pretty much everything lol ;)

  • I don't doubt that the group saw Kenny becoming a new version of Carver, and they weren't wrong to be afraid of him which is why I don't hate Bonnie and Mike for trying to leave. I hate them for taking ALL of the supplies when they did.

  • Well, it's either out of character, or wildly inconsistent character motives. Take your pick, but it's not consistent characterization, to be sure, for the simple fact that Bonnie and Mike did as much as everyone else to keep Rebecca and the baby safe, and to honor her memory by taking care of him, only to be alright with leaving the baby behind to very likely die. Even if they didn't include his formula in their supplies, which they had to have done since they have no use for it, they were still okay with leaving him out there stranded in the cold with no way of getting to a safe place quickly.
