I Won't Give Up...

edited September 2014 in The Walking Dead

I was actually kind of surprised when I first found out how many people shot Kenny instead of looking away, and so I just wanted to give some of my reasoning for why I choose to look away, ensuring the survival of Kenny for a period of time.

Yes, Kenny may have a mean streak, be reckless, overprotective, and strongly opinianated, but when it cones down to it, he will literally do anything to protect the people he cares about, as we've seen countless times with Katjaa, Duck, Sarita, Clementine, and AJ. Jane was not this type of person, from what I believe I saw in her behavior. She was manipulative, reckless like Kenny, but unlike Kenny, she recklessly did what she saw fit for herself, what would do her good, and was quite possessive of Clementine, practically assaulting Kenny, leading him to believe that his only hope in the world had been eliminated and fighting him without letting him know that AJ wasn't dead. As Kenny says if you do let him live, if Jane had told him that AJ was fine, the situation wouldn't have escalated as far as it did.

Also, even Jane said that Clementine would be the only one capable of bringing Kenny out of what he was in, and I'm not going to give up on Ken. The way he protects his loved ones, he absolutely needs to stick around. He's loyal, and he's pretty damn smart, too. Hardy, physically and mentally strong, though his depression has severely affected that mental strength. There are just some kinks that need to be worked out. Alright, maybe that's an understatement, but still, for those of you who did see the ending with Kenny (if you didn't, go look) he once again puts Clementine and AJ before himself, telling the woman at Wellington to take them in, even if they can't take him. He also later states that Clem and Alvie will be safe at Wellington, that they'll have people better them him there, people who don't have to look at Clem and feel ashamed at what they've put her through. He knows he's made mistakes, and he feels guilty. He wants to do better, and I think he will, in time. And when he does, he'll be the best father to AJ, and the closest thing to a father for Clem.

It definitely should be. But I'm terrible at editing, so let's just imagine it's Kenny's face.XD

  • I stayed at Wellington just because Kenny wanted it, but at least I didn't kill him, I bet he's still out there being good ol' Kenny.

  • Kenny was always the same old Kenny inside all along, All he wanted was the safety of the kids.

  • Agreed. When things get hard you stick it out. Help the ones you care about.

  • he will literally do anything to protect the people he cares about

And only the people he cares about, even in a group, which has always been the reason he's not fit to be a leader. Never forget that he potentially can be fine with leaving Lee to die if Lee did not agree with him to smash a human being's head in. That's about as useful as Kenny's "loyalty" is.

Jane was not this type of person, from what I believe I saw in her behavior.

Well, as far as only helping those you care about, Jane was no different from Kenny. She clearly cared about Clementine and would do anything for her, including pulling a terrible, underhanded tactic like she did, which of course, doesn't justify her actions at all.

    She was manipulative

Kenny showed signs of this as well. "What was that out there, Clem?! How dare you have an opinion that doesn't coincide with my own?! Think about Rebecca and Alvin, which can obviously only give credibility to my point of view... oh, and think about Lee and what he did for you, which must also only give credibility to my point of view..."

Yeah, he had his problems with trying to manipulate Clem (via guilt trip, no less) onto his side and his side only as well. This has always been Kenny's character, even back with Lee. You're on his side, or you're unreasonable for not being on his side.

but unlike Kenny, she recklessly did what she saw fit for herself, what would do her good

Beating up and trying to kill Arvo did nobody any good and was purely for Kenny's own satisfaction. Trying to kill Jane the way he did also did nobody any good. If AJ had died because of an accident, which is the info Kenny was operating on, then killing her would not have brought him back and would not have saved anyone or anything. It was purely for Kenny's own personal satisfaction that he tried that.

Now don't get me wrong, when Kenny came through, he really came through. But he was not free of reckless selfishness, just as Jane was not totally free of caring and protectiveness, saving Clementine's life at personal risk (hurrying across the broken ice).

As Kenny says if you do let him live, if Jane had told him that AJ was fine, the situation wouldn't have escalated as far as it did.

That doesn't absolve Kenny of his murderous intentions. Jane was 100% wrong in pushing Kenny over the edge, but cold-blooded murder based on only an inkling of an understanding (if even that) of a situation that supposedly transpired (in this case, AJ's supposed death) is also 100% wrong.

Kennyism? Janeism? No, thank you. I follow Aloneism. Forever walking the thin line... puts on shades and dramatically walks into the sunset
