Hats that fit 8 year old kids don't fit adults, or even kids in their mid/early teens, even hats that are adjustable.
Well, when she's old enough where the hat wouldn't fit anymore I'm just gonna pretend that she found a new one and replaced it.
It'd actually make for a pretty cool short scene though, her finding an adult sized replacement shortly after a time-skip (like, near the end of the first episode)
