The whole episode builds up how Pete is the nicest guy in the group and Nick is a hot-head that can't shoot a gun. In the end, you have to either save the nice guy doomed to die or save the other guy that you don't like very much.
In my opinion that's alot better than ''Save the hot chick that can shoot a gun or the nerd that can turn on a tv.'' That really tells you something when most players saved Carley over Doug while in Season 2 it was 50%-50%.
Another thing, i don't get what you mean when you say the ending of Season 1 episode 1 was better. The power just went off, that's it. Not really exciting if you ask me.
The power turning off is pretty damn ominous, though. The characters have just gotten done talking about everything will be alright because they have protection and power, only for the power to shut off directly after while the sounds of a military battle against the walkers is going on in the background. Everything about that one little moment not only lets us know that their hope is misplaced, but that they've officially entered the apocalypse with their much needed electricity and light gone for good.
And yes, the choice between Nick and Pete was better handled as far as the act of choosing goes, although the set up was kind of silly considering Pete had every opportunity to run across the river to get away from the slow-ass walkers but didn't purely for the choice to occur. Even back when it first came out, people were saying the choice felt kind of artificial.
In my opinion, episode 1 had a great ending.

I think the whole build up was better in season 1. You got to get to know both Carley and Doug. Not just hear a few conversations. Also the biggest difference is that in the first season (Which I didn't mention in the vid) the decision actually mattered.
The ending of Season 1 episode 1 ended with things looking up and then Lilly saying she thinks everything is going to be okay just before the power turns off is a really well developed scene in my opinion. The ending in Season 2 episode just felt a little rushed in comparison.

If I were to put together a review now, the whole season being out, I'd probably just do a review for the whole season and do my best to make it spoiler free.
May Santa Clause give you everything you write on your Xmas list.
I already did my review on the whole thing. I did that video first actually but I think each episode also deserves one since there are many things I want to say about each individual episode that I didn't say in the overall review. Here's a link to that video if you want to see it. Warning though there are spoilers.

Thank you for the comment and God bless.
Exactly that scene was pretty well done in Season 1 Episode 1.

Also subscribed...as I said on the video. :P
