Merle said that he was trying to make Daryl a man for forty years. His own brother would know how old he is so I go with that. Also, Merle is way over 40, maybe even early 50s, and he and Daryl were only a few years apart. Reedus could play a few years younger but I think in the case, he isn't.
As for Beth, it's not just her physical age. She is too immature acting. I think that episode that she had with Daryl was a turning point for her, but I feel that they are more big briother/little sister. He enjoyed having someone to take care of, and she helped him open up, but they just don't feel like a romantic couple to me. I heard Kirkman said he was considering making Daryl gay. Maybe they might have the stones to go there lol. It would sure throw he fan girls for a loop.
I am aware of that.
However because she is of legal age, there is nothing illegal about it.
And as far as Daryl being over 40, I honestl… morey thought he was somewhere in his mid to late 30's.
I'm am well aware that Norman Reedus himself is over 40 years of age, but I thought he was playing a character who was suppose to be a few years younger than that.
Personally, if a girl 18, wanted to date a man who is 10 or 20 years her senior, I wouldn't see anything wrong with it, as long as he treats her with kindness and respect.
Actually, that rule about his treating her with kindness and respect, would apply to him no matter what his age.
And she should also treat him the same way.
When I was 22, I dated an a woman who was 30 years my senior.
She was gorgeous, busty blonde.
She was still doing modeling gigs in a bikini!
I know there were those, especially my family, who did not approve of our relationship.
But since we were both two co… [view original content]
I don't recall Merle saying " for forty years", I remember him saying "for years". From what I know, they haven't confirmed Daryl's age yet, but I've always seen him to be about 35-36(present at least), because Merle would go on about how he was the one who raised Daryl. I think there has to be at least a 7-10 year age gap between the two brothers.

It is the Apocalypse, and compared to other things on the show, a relationship with an age gap(where they're both legal) isn't the most controversial topic to be addressed. I won't be surprised if that's why they're making Beth a more important character.:P
Beth is what 18-21 yrs old?
And Daryl is what 35-40 yrs old?
Beth ain't to young for Daryl.
Plus, younger women date older men all the time.
And traditionally in a relationship, the man is older then the woman.
Well, Rick is teetering on the edge of sanity right now, and him being reunited with the rest of his group and family will definitely throw his protective instincts into gear. I believe he realizes that being a good man will not protect his group as efficiently as a person who is willing to do anything, even the bad things, to protect them. I don't see Ricktatorship being as prevalent as it was in season 3a, but I do see it being more present in his way of thinking. I'm not sure who it is he threatens in the trailer, but Rick does say "if you hurt my family in any kind of way, I will kill you."
I don't see that happening personally.
What I've noticed, is how Rick's attitude has changed towards violence and killing.
At first, Ric… morek couldn't bring himself to kill anyone.
Causing him and Shane to be at odds.
Seeing Hershel brutally murdered had a profound affect on him, as Hershel was like a father to him.
When Joe and his group were gonna kill Daryl, and rape Carl and Michonne, that's when things really got rough.
Seeing Carl in that position, caused Rick to explode!
The way he killed Joe, and then that guy who was attempting to rape Carl, was vicious.
I'd say as a fighter, Rick is even more violent and brutal than Shane.
But his attitude towards killing an innocent person has not changed.
So in many ways, I'd say the core of his being has remained the same.

Don't forget the kids killing other kids and adults, and the murder of a mentally unsound child. Oh, and the cannibalism. All these dim in comparison to a consenting relationship between two adults with an age gap obviously.

It was nice to see Daryl open up.
It was nice Beth being able to bring that out in him.
And I get the feeling, that that was one of the few times he had ever really opened up to anyone.
And I would say, in regards to Merle, that he was probably in his mid to late forties.
It's not impossible for Daryl to be ten years younger than him.
And yes, I've heard Daryl gay rumours too.
Just because Daryl has a hard time opening up to others, or the fact he hasn't pursued a romantic relationship with Carroll or he at this point, doesn't make him gay.
You gotta remember Daryl suffered years of abuse at the hands of his father, and possibly mother as well.
And Merle was no picnic either!
Such treatment is sure to give someone emotional problems.
I personally don't see Daryl as gay.
But as a straight guy, who is still trying to overcome decades of abuse, and who's still learning how to interact with and to trust others.
Which is why he's still hesitant about getting into a relationship, as the level of trust in such, is probably deeper than Daryl is ready for at this time.
Thats my personal view of the character.
Plus, almost every personal conversation he's had about his past, has been with a woman.
That's another reason for my viewpoint.

Considering how much her character grew in Season 4.
And the trailer I saw for Season 5, it looks like Beth my be taking on more of an active role in Season 5.

I've never seen any indication of Daryl being gay. He see's Rick as his brother, so that's out..Just because he isn't wanting to jump every pretty girl's bones, or isn't talking about girls all the time, that doesn't make him gay. The guy is awkward as hell, he's been with the group for about 1 1/2 years now, and he still struggles to talk to them.:P

It's strange that people seem to think he needs to be lusting after girls on screen to prove he's straight. Or becasue he's loyal to Rick, that means he's gay.-_-
If Daryl is gay, for being loyal to Rick, then that must mean Rick is gay as well, cause he's loyal to Daryl.
We all know Rick is far from gay!
He's 100 percent straight.
And to go along with what you said, I to have not seen any indication of Daryl being gay.
Remember how pissed he was that Rick banished Carroll from the prison?
That level of anger seems to suggest he was close to her.
Not to mention how he acted when he thought she died in the tombs of the prison in Season 3.
Though I do not think Daryl had any romantic feelings for her.
She made passes at him, but he never really reciprocated.
I think the fact that they both had rough lives, gave them a strong bond of friendship.
Beth, on the other hand, I'd say there might be something there.
She was able to bring out a goodness in him that Carroll couldn't.
That innocent something she has about her, is indeed captivating.
And Daryl does seem drawn to it.

ha i don't care if you believe me or not. Why would I care if you want to live in your delusions that is your choice. When you get older you'll start to see things more my way.
You'd be surprised how many people think Rick isn't straight, even with the fact that he has a wife and two children.:P
He definitely really cares about Carol, but I think the only one who might have had romantic feelings was Carol. Daryl didn't seem that interested in a romantic relationship with her. I think that's for the best because they're just too similar, they're like mirrors of one another.
The two episodes that featured Daryl and Beth together had way too many romantic undertones for it to be coincidental, or just a familial relationship. Beth is just enough like Daryl, but still very different, for them to work out. They both can learn something from one another.

Very mixed emotions but terminus in the final scene of the trailer rick mows down some humans most likely terminus which makes me excited for this season all the cool emotional scenes more rick speeches and overall a great great great season
I remember the episode after Beth gets caught in the trap.
Daryl carries her all the way to wherever that was.
They end stopping at a gravestone that says: "Love Dad," or something like that.
After Daryl places a flower on top of it, Beth reaches over and grabs Daryl's hand.
And later on, when Beth is sitting there and playing and singing at that piano, Daryl comes in, lays in that coffin, and wants her to keep playing, even though she mentions that her singing use to annoy him.
After seeing that, I does seem to me that something was happening between those two.

I think that might have been the most physical contact that Daryl's ever willingly initiated with a girl, at least when there's no danger threatening them at that time. I'm about 85% sure that the show has something planned for Daryl and Beth beyond just friends. Whether it's this season or next is the question lol.

Well don't forget when Daryl broke down in tears, over losing everyone, and Beth hugged him.
Yet Daryl did not pull away.
I saw that and thought: "Wow! That's a big step for Daryl."
Actually, now that I'm going back and remembering all this, I actually hope those two do get together.
Daryl, to quote Dale: "Is a decent man!"
And he's proved that.
Beth, is a sweet, innocent girl, who is completely optimistic.
That is not only refreshing, but also endearing.
I think she'd be a good for him.
To quote good old Kenny: "You two sure do look like a match."
Lol!

I know, I was surprised he let her do that. I mean, he's obviously been needing a hug for a long time now, but I didn't expect him to just accept a surprise hug so easily.
I think they would be sweet together. Despite Daryl's age, I think mentally/emotionally he is much younger due to the abuse stunting his growth. If they did have a relationship, I doubt it would automatically be sexual like so many people seem to think.
I think Beth is adorable, the actress is such a pretty little thing! She is quite refreshing, given how dark many of the characters have become due to the world they live in. She's innocent, but is capable of protecting herself, and wants to be strong. I hope Beth sticks around for a while.:)

My mistake, I really need to get my priorities in order.
Those other things aren't even controversial, we have to focus on what's important.

The sad thing is, we all know how predictable The Walking Dead is when it comes to handling optimistic/innocent/nice characters.
