What would Dale and Hershel think of Rick now?
We all know how Dale felt about violence, and killing.
Rick, over time, has had to make a lot of brutal decisions to keep his family safe.
As well as his extended family, like Daryl, Michonne, Glen, Maggie, etc.
Like biting Joe's throat out, to save his son.
Brutally stabbing that fat-fucker who was on top of Carl.
Leaving a man to be torn apart by walkers, as there was no way to get to him in time.
Strangling that man in the bathroom.
Etc.
If Dale was alive to have witnessed those deeds, how would he feel?
And what would he say?
Would Dale have accepted it?
Or would he have viewed Rick as worse than Shane?
And what if Hershel had also witnessed those actions?
We knew that Hershel was a very kind and loving man.
Yet, he was willing to kill, if it meant him getting back to his daughters, or to protect them.
Like when Rick, Glen and him were in that shootout at that bar.
Even though Hershel did not like to shoot, when fired upon, he returned fire, hitting the man in the chest.
When the Governor and Rick were talking, Hershel was armed and prepared to fight if things went sideways.
And that was after he lost his leg, I might add.
But if Hershel were still alive, how do you think he would judge Rick's recent actions?
Do you think his judgement would be similar to Dale's?

He would understand. He believes in maintaining humanity but I think both he and especially Hershel, understand that a man can be pushed. Especially considering what those creeps were going to do the Rick's family. They both know that Rick is a good man and he wouldnt lose that basic part of himself that cares about people, but if you threaten his own, you get what you get.
Agreed. I think they would both get it. Hershel especially, as usually when Rick just loses it on somebody it IS to protect Carl from clearly evil people.
Ripping out Joe's throat is a very different situation than executing the boy who knows where the farm is.
