  • Don't forget Reggie's VA was an actor also and the forums tore him apart.

They would (of course) have to be a bad ass Alt text

I think we need a character voiced by Liam Neeson.

  • As long as they're talented like Michael Madsen and Scott Porter were, and not have a poor excuse of voice acting like Reggie's actor had.

  • I'm going to say no because they won't have enough money or something to pay them then the character will die early like Carver

People under 18? I didn't know that 17 year olds formed high percentage of the TWD fans. Game has 17+ rating, so people under that age aren't the target audience as they shouldn't be even playing the game. :)

And I just want to underline that when I'm talking about most people who follow media, I'm not talking about some people in some Indian or African village which doesn't even have Internet connection. It is however my personal experience when I have traveled around the world, that the same people are on the covers of the magazines everywhere. And while Michael Madsen isn't the biggest star in the world. He is internationally well known actor and many adult gamers have seen his movies, because for example those Tarantino films are quite popular among the target demographics of TWD game.

I have no problem with the idea but I don't want to recognise the voice because it would take me out of the game. I mean, Carver got away with it but what if he had been voiced by Shatner? Or Christopher Walken had been Luke?

  • Only if the celeb VA gets paid the same as any other VA.

  • My apologies I forgot about him, he is a funny comedian.

Kumail Nanjiana, the voice of Reggie, is also a celebrity voice actor.

  • I don't care as long as their voice acting is good, believable and engaging.

  • I guess I'm thinking about comparing to how they probably dealt with it in season 2. Season 1 was so successful that it helped create a budget to hire some well-known actors to voice for season 2, but they did not go on an all out spending spree.

Isn't hiring celebrities for voice acting more demanding on the gaming company's wages than hiring actual voice actors?

  • Id pay $60 for next season if Christopher Walken was a voice actor in it.

  • I just went off the credits when it lists "performed by" I assume Telltale holds them in a high regard like a celebrity.

  • I personally don't mind if they hire celeb for the roles, but non-celebs voice actors has proven that they truly have talents in voice acting. For example Dave, Melissa, Gavin and Erin are great voice actors who aren't celeb. Looking outside the Walking Dead, Adam (Voice of Bigby) and AJ (The voice of Marty in Back to the Future game). These people have proven that you don't need celebs to have good voice acting. Not saying that celebs are bad, Michael Madsen did a badass job as Carver.

I hope that when they do begin hiring more celebs for their future games, they don't ignore the non-celeb voice actors.

  • I think I understand what you are trying to say. If you hear a celebrity's voice from a character in season 3 you realize that they have a strong chance of not making it to the end since Telltale might not hire them for another season due to the company's business side of things. And that may seem to be true, but looking at the story of TWD so far everyone dies in this game eventually, cept Clem and AJ.

The only reason i say no , is because of how they treated Carver's character. I don't want a celebrity VA over a character that will be alive longer.

  • Id like Celeb Voice acting. Just as long as it isnt a lot. Maybe 2 per season like Carver and Luke.

  • That was also the first indication for me that he had also done something else besides video game voice acting. IMDB says that he had minor role in Caprica, but I never watched the show. I loved Galactica, but according to reviews Caprica was a total failure and didn't capture the atmosphere of the original, so I skipped it. It would be cool if they got someone from Galactica to Season 3. :)

I guess the reason why some people would be opposed to more celeb VAs is because some may be more expensive to hire than others. And Because of that, characters voiced by more popular celebs tend to not get that much exposure and lines in the game.Voice actors can be pretty expensive to hire, especially if their unionized, which I believe is one of the reasons why when a character becomes determinant, they suddenly play a lot less of a role than when they did before, so that TTG doesn't have to spend a lot of money on a character that a lot of people probably won't see in future episodes.

Again, Luke had a celeb VA and lasted as long as Lee.

  • Like others here, I don't mind more celebrity voice actors as long as their performances are good. Scott Porter and Michael Madsen were absolutely terrific this season, and I thought Kumail Nanjani (sp?) as Reggie did well too.

Although, if it is true that the "celeb" voice actors get paid more than the regular voice actors, that seems a little unfair.

  • As long as they do a spectacular performance and get me immersed in the story, I'm all for whatever. I liked Scott Porter as Luke, but smaller voice actors did amazing jobs as well. (like Gavin Hammon did a spot on job with Kenny)

  • that was my exact reaction when Kenny showed up in season 2.

  • Yes.

Id pay $60 for next season if Christopher Walken was a voice actor in it.

  • If Kenny was Liam Neeson, Kat and Duck would still be alive.

I think we need a character voiced by Liam Neeson.

  • In that case Kenny's particular set of skills would include more than driving a boat and fishing, so I think that's true, but an unfair comparison.

If Kenny was Liam Neeson, Kat and Duck would still be alive.

  • I love Polish people. My best friend growing up was Polish.

Personally, I'd love to hear Bryon Cranston add his pipes to the Walking Dead cast.
His voice is rich and powerful, and his acting talent is superb.
He was awesome in Breaking Bad!

  • True, but Telltale isn't just getting by. They've made millions based off The Walking Dead alone.

Other things being equal, I'd like celebrity voice acting.

But other things are not equal. As pointed out by others, celebrity voice acting would most likely mean a shorter character life, due to actor unavailability and higher fees. This might be okay for a character who's about to die soon anyway, though.

Moreover, the higher actor fees might make the game less profitable, which could lead to shorter episodes or cancellation of the series.

I think the cons outweigh the pros on this one.

  • Sure, as long as they last longer than Carver did.

    No.

You can almost smell the death on the famous VA characters.

    Carver=Michael Madsen=very famous=very expensive=fast death

Luke=Scott Porter=rather famous=rather expensive=gone for long time periods, because the character was important

EDIT: Also, Telltale's 'usual' VAs have done a great job aswell. Gavin Hammon in Episode 5=A-Class VA.

Doesn't need a Brad Pitt just for the 'Oh, it's Brad Pitt!' effect.

And the following 'Aaaand he's dead' effect.
