He was a good survivor maybe could have been a good leader but Rick showed up and he eventually lost it. Lori was not helping the situation. Probably my favorite character the first and second season.

He wasn't really a great leader. If he was, the others wouldn't have basically thrown him over for Rick almost immediately. In the second ep… moreisode, he was willing to let the group at the department store die without doing anything. He didn't really care about anyone.
And in my opinion, he wasn't always what he ended up being: a broken man that had nothing to loose. He wasn't crazy in the common sense, he just knew that Rick was in the way and that he won't be punished for anything.
Plus, you must admit that Rick has lost it more than Shane by now.
One of the best characters on the show. Interesting, unique, and played a big role in Rick's life. He was tough, did what needed to be done, and cared for Lori and Carl. He had his quirks yes, but he's just a man. I didn't agree with him most of the time, but he was awesome, all in all a great character, and in my book wasn't a villain.

While there, you show respect for whatever rules they set for their home, by following said rules.

I remember back when I was 22, my folks had someone who lived with them, who acted in that very manner.
One night we were all in the kitchen, and he was talking; and he was a smooth talker, and he was saying basically that.
I told him, and I used the experience when I lived with my uncle for a time, and I said: "When you agree to live in someone else's house, you obligate yourself to follow whatever rules they set, and you basically negate any supposed rights you think you have. If you do something and they don't like it, they are well within their right to say something to you. And if you're not willing to follow their rules, you don't have any business living with that person."
I'm happy to say that he shut-up after that.
When people are suffer emotional trauma, like losing a spouse, they often times do not make discreet decisions.
Now I'm not saying that what Lori did was morally right, but it is understandable.
She was grieving, she felt alone, and being Shane offered her a chance not to feel that way.
Shane, had no excuse whatsoever for his behavior.
If it had been over a year since Rick's alleged death, and then he and Lori hooked up, that would've been different.
But to do so after only a couple of months had passed, was a very sleazy thing to do, as it showed ZERO respect for his friend's memory.
Bitch though Lori was, I doubt this as well. Even if I'm wrong, Shane had a moral duty not to fuck his best friend's wife immediately after … moretragedy had befallen the family.
Moreover he had a duty to himself (a nature of duty that Shane seems to take seriously) not to let himself get involved with that conniving perma-scowling skeleton-faced harpy bitch. Rick has an excuse. He was a teenager who had trouble with girls when she expressed an interest in him. They married young before Rick had a clue. Shane KNEW what she was like and he still wanted to get with her. That's on him. He really shouod've known better.

Seems everyone ignored my post. Barely anyone's capable of understanding Shane... He's too complex for most.
None of those fhings are as crucial to the story as the conflict between Shane and Rick, and the resolution of that.
