  • Very true. But we haven't been visited yet. Chances are we will be the ones being greeted. When we are spacefaring (not far away) and capable of traversing the universe what do you think the probability of finding a primitive species is compared to finding one at our stage of technology/intelligence? Actually... I have no idea. But I am curious..... someone should make an algorithm and get on that.

If aliens exist and they will visit us, I CANT wait till religious people tell them that! XD

  • That would be difficult for any of us to do.

    Email NASA.

  • Who said anything about intelligent life? The church is not stupid. They know how to work around inconsistencies. If we were to find primitive life they would say "Yeah, we figured it was out there!" and if we were to find intelligent life they would find another means of justification for the Bible. Incorporating them into scripture, or "proving" that the scripture did not apply to them.

    zykelator posted: »

Why would god create intelligent life out there and decide that they are irrelevant? "sorry, i care about my dirt and rib people more than you" Well the claims in the book dont make any sense anyway so lets just drop it.

  • I read some of your other responses to religion in this thread and I have to say it is a little offensive to be called ignorant for believing in a Higher power.

    zykelator posted: »

Well either you both are crazy, or neither of you are. Who are you to judge someone's beliefs which are based on personal experience, since you do exactly the same?

  • You have shown how ignorant you are as this conversation has moved on. You didnt know what science means or whats the difference between scientific theory and theory, so i have no reason to assume you know that much about science in general. You could have looked these things up, but instead you decided to defend your false statements and claim to be right without really even knowing if you are.

It seems like you dont care whats true and whats not, so i wont waste your time anymore.

  • Two examples off the very top of my head:

    1) Take your sword, each of you," Moses commanded them. "And go back through the gates, from side to side in the village, to kill your brother, your friend, and your neighbor for the sins they have committed against the Lord God

Their sin was worshipping a golden calf. Kill your loved ones for they are mislead. After all, I could appear to them and right their wrongs, I could redeem them, but I shall have them killed. Fair, just, loving.

    2) The women lied with the Hebrew men. So the men of Jerusalem took up arms against this injustice. They killed all the men and boys of the nation. They killed every woman who was not a virgin. They took the virgins of the nation with them to Jerusalem, and took them for their own. After mere days were given to the virgins for their mourning they were taken as wives (against their will) by the men who had killed their families (killed for atrocities they did not commit). If the man did not enjoy his virgin they could be cast out onto the street. Penniless, homeless, and no longer a virgin. Worthless and used.

    That is God's love.

I agree the 10 commandments are fine guidelines for life. If followed they would make this world a heaven on Earth. But why do we need a book to tell us things that should be ingrained in us from day one by everyone not by the pages of an ancient tale. The 10 commandments are no different than the teachings of every other religion and the teaching we try to teach our children/friends/etc.

"You pray so badly for Heaven. Knowing any day might be the day that you die. But maybe life on Earth could be Heaven. Doesn't just the thought of it make it worth a try?" -Bo Burnham.

  • But it is opinion. There is no right answer. No matter how much scientific evidence you read for being against the existence of a God, there is no correct answer. It's not fact to say that God doesn't exist. It's not as simple as saying 'that cup is white' or 'one, two, and three are numbers'. You cannot one hundred percent effectively disprove God. All it comes down to, in the end, is a matter of faith and opinion. We have faith that He exists, you have faith that He doesn't.

I'm not saying that you are wrong for forming opinions based on science, but please be respectful of the people around you. There's nothing ignorant about practicing a religion.

And it was generalization, since its much simpler to say it that way than start explaining every other reason why people are possibly religious.
