Nah it really doesn't, if they're going to go to a forum of a company that makes rated M games, I don't think being an asshole because you're a "kid" is justified.
Don't see why you wouldn't want to go into the Finnish Army for a year or two. Very chill... No conflict as far as I'm aware. You'd be disciplined well, grow stronger, and would gain life skills. Sounds like a plan.
I didnt feel like finnish goverment forcing me to go to army was right, so i threatened i would kill myself rather than do as they say and n… moreow im free. Im a honest/indifferent person and i will surely share my opinion without sugar coating it, no matter if its irl or internet.
How can they when the economy is like it is, we got single moms working two jobs because they can't find one decent one.
I wouldn't blame the parents completely, people have to be responsible for their own actions.

So you would kill yourself before putting your life on the line for your country? Potentially same outcome (only one is definite).
Seems idiotic you would place your life's meaning before everyone else who is willing to enlist. You must really have something important to offer the world, aside from typing honestly/indifferently what you think on a forum. Tisk tisk.
That's all I am going to say on the subject. Don't want to anger the Mod God.

O.O I don't know a great deal about the Finnish military, but I'm pretty sure it's a cut above ISIS. Compulsory military service isn't slavery, it's just a way of ensuring that a country's population is fit and able. I'd absolutely love it if the UK forced everyone into the territorials for a year or two upon hitting sixteen, because that way we'd have far less assholes skulking around; They'd all be made useful and learn respect. I don't have a problem with conscientious objectors but when you're not being forcefully shoved into a war zone, threatening to commit suicide seems... Silly.
If you lived in Israel for example, it'd make sense to me.
If they wouldnt threaten me with ½ year prison sentence in case i refuse to go to army, i could possibly go there just because i got nothing better to do. I got nothing against army, just the current slavery part of it. So its pretty much matter of principle.
My life is meaningless and i hold the right to decide what i do with it. Im not aiming to contribute anything to world, im just going to do my thing for some time and die/kill myself.

Those threats aren't given without reason. Forcing young adults to enter the services for a short period ensures that they're able to defend the country in the event of an invasion or crisis, and teaches them a lot. Refusing to join just seems like laziness and six months in prison doesn't exactly sound like a terrible punishment to me.

That is so much bs. Even in the law, they must add that "conscription isnt counted as slavery", because it obviously is that otherwise. We live fucking 2014 and people are being forced in army and if they refuse, its ½ year prison sentence. You can rape little girl and get away with that, but if you refuse to go to army, they will put you in jail.
it's just a way of ensuring that a country's population is fit and able.
And black people picking up cotton was just to ensure cheap labor and good profit so the owner could feed his family? What gives goverment right to own people?

Only country that would ever even attack Finland is Russia. Do you think we would have a chance against them anymore?
and teaches them a lot.
Not really. It teaches them basic survival skills in the woods and how to tolerate pricks who annoy you on purpose. Everyone i know who has finished army said it was utterly pointless and shit.

You're not being forced to eradicate entire races or grow opium for your evil Illuminati masters while enduring compulsory military service. You're taught skills and discipline. How can you compare that to slavery? Your country isn't even at war so be glad you're not in the IDF's position.
You're forced to go into school and become educated, correct? Is that also slavery?

Of course it is if you dont want to go there. However, it is decided for kids, since they cant really think for themselves at young age and the goal is to make productive members of society. Assumption is that everyone wants to be part of society and they base their decision on that assumption. School is meant to teach them the basic information so they can be part of the society.
Why is slavery bad then? They teach you how to mine coal, make railroads, pick up cotton and they give you food to stay alive. You are taught skills and discipline there also.

Because slavery means a lack of basic human rights. You get those and far more in the reserves of a relaxed army. The average 16/17 year old generally can't properly think for themselves either, much like a child heading into school. Their perception of the world is still developing and military life is something everyone should experience, even for a brief period.

If i have no right to choose what to do with my life, how does that not fit the definition of slavery? It doesnt matter what they try to force you to do, that is completely irrelevant, its still slavery. If economy is bad, is it justified to force people to work for free, for the good of country?
You get those and far more in the reserves of a relaxed army.
Expect you are being bullied there by higher ranking people, only the highest ranking people are nice to others.
The average 16/17 year old generally can't properly think for themselves either, much like a child heading into school.
Its +18 when you are liable for military service, and most people at that age are fit to make their own decisions.

You're not being treated as property, though. That isn't the intention of a peaceful government like yours. You're given a taste of being in the services and are trained for the good of society, not for the elite's monetary gain. As I've said before I'd fully appreciate and understand your viewpoint if you were living in a country partaking in an immoral and pointless conflict, but you're not. Half a year service is understandably expected from you because everyone you know's better off for it, and you'd come out a wiser person.
Expect you are being bullied there by higher ranking people, only the highest ranking people are nice to others.
Lol, that isn't bullying. It's the job of non-commissioned officers, Drill Sergeants in particular, to mentally break down recruits and teach them respect and discipline. It's beneficial to everyone involved.
Its +18 when you are liable for military service, and most people at that age are fit to make their own decisions.
Still doesn't change the fact that a warless six months of chilled service is by no means an outrageous thing to ask.

Not yet. But I have a fascination with army life in general and probably do an unhealthy amount of research into military structure and protocol. Have huge, huge amounts of respect for anyone whose enlisted or sought after a commission in all branches of the NATO forces and have lots of vets in the family.
You said you got training, what country, branch and what'd you specialize in if anything? I'm interested. xd
US Army. I'm a quarter master and chemical equipment repairer (sounds interesting, but it's really not). Hoping to get into an ROTC program by next spring!

What I'm trying to say is one shouldn't resort to insults and general douchebaggery (damn, I love that word) just because of difference of opinion. Of course there are exceptions to this, but in the context of what the OP is referring to, this still applies.
It's pretty pathetic, if you can't take shit from others without being hurt.
Kudos to you that you can handle hate, but not everyone can and we all have to accept and respect that. You shouldn't expect everyone to have the same mindset as you, it's just a fact of life that some are more sensitive than others.
Best of luck to you with that, then. Bet you'll come out an awesome CO! Hard to say this without sounding patronizing or like a twat but you have all my thanks and respect even though I'm British, haha. Hoping all this ISIS business doesn't escalate into anything that necessitates boots on the ground.

We could just blame telltale for allowing kids join the forums. You cant expect "mature" behaviour from kids.
We can't blame Telltale because that's out of their control, we can however blame their parent's that don't monitor this kind of stuff.

Sometimes the best answer to a question is a better question.
That was a joke, but it's still true.
Yeah I guess you're right, but parent's have to take some kind of responsibility for their child's actions as well.
Are you sure?
I love you CrazyGeorge
Oh This and that, the stuff your not supposed to mix with alcohol.
Luckily for me, i don't mix it with alcohol, whiskey does fine.
Time for a drive to my "pain management" center.
Have a wonderful day everyone!
