Season Two thrives off of Nostalgia
After completing Season Two again, I've noticed that a lot of the emotional scenes stem off of Season one nostalgia. This really bothers me because there isn't any real original writing that isn't based off the first game. The most memorable moments stem from the first, like when Clementine talks about Lee with Luke, that was the most memorable moments in the first episode. Another example is when Clem and Kenny first meet again in episode two, they talk about the past and its very emotional. There are other moments like this with Sarah in the trailer court and in the truck with Kenny and it really bothers me that this season relied on nostalgia.
I know a lot of people are going to be against me on this but, I don't like the misuse of Lee in this season. It feels like a lot of the usage of refencing Lee, is used inappropriately. Like mentioning him in the museum was kinda pointless, and it feels like TTG is just manipulating our [the player] emotions. I feel mentioning him less, would have more of an effect when he is mentioned for the big moments.
All I want from the writers next season is not to rely on nostalgia from previous seasons. I want more of living in the moment than living in the past, like Season two was doing or at least had quite a lot of time doing it.

I disagree, I thought the nostalgia really didn't play much of a big role this season, and I didn't really find many of the nostalgic scenes emotional other than Kennys return. Besides it's a sequel, I find it better if they were to use nostalgia more to their advantage.
well it be bad if they couldnt done that. but i found the kenny ending where he leaves emotional. and others but to lazy to write them..
I don't find using nostalgia as an advantage, I just think its a cheap way to get people feeling emotion that was there, rather than feeling for the characters now. But we have a separation of opinion on that.
Its because the whole series is devoted to Kenny, thats why most feelings come from season 1
You have a point. I did feel that the "Let Clementine get shot so we have an excuse to show Lee again" was transparent
But I think the reason they unrealistically brought Kenny back from the dead is not for nostalgia, but to save their failing storyline. The Clementine-Kenny relationship was the only good thing about Season 2, IMO.
In case it gets buried.
Bump.
Nostalgia does have a large role in Season 2 through referrals to Lee. You can't not expect Clementine to have a lot of mentions of Lee seeing as he was her greatest influence post apocalypse. I thought for the most part, nostalgia was handled very well in this Season as it gave us insight into the Clem of old and not the Jane-esque cold survivor. Whenever she mentioned Lee, she showed emotion. Happiness, grief, pride. That's why I enjoyed most of the Lee references. I will agree that the the mention in the Civil War museum seems lazily thrown in and it didn't really have any impact besides "ZOMG SHE MENTIONED LEE TEH FEELS"
I don't think Lee should have been brought up other than Kenny's return and the flashback dream sequence. It would have made it 10x more emotional, and the rest of episodes could have had emotional scenes actually from this season.
I'm not against having scenes where Clementine's able to talk about Lee, (her survivor's guilt was probably the most impactful part of All That Remains for me) but I do think they relied on a few too many references to him and season one for an emotional sting rather than allowing us to get to know the new crew.
I would have preferred if those conversations were a little less one-sided. e.g. Let characters like Luke and Sarah empathize their feelings and relate their own past tragedies as well. Connect more to other people, rather than having Clementine and Kenny be the only ones to dwell on what they've lost.
love this picture.
As I said before. Season 2 didn't have the cast to be as good as Season 1 thats why each episode relies so heavily on Clementine and Kenny.

The Lee references take up about 4 lines of dialogue in each episode they are in, save ep 5 where Clem gets shot just so she can dream about Lee before magically getting better with no treatment whatsoever, not even a band-aid. (I object to the magically getting better, not the dream sequence)
I liked them. Several of them established that Clem has survivor's guilt.
