Sweet, I got perfect timing I guess haha XD
Is it just me, or did these DVDs not receive that special touch that previous Telltale DVDs received? All that's being advertised for both is the games and a "digitally-signed" cover; they sound like a complete afterthought compared to the Sam & Max DVDs. And the signature on the cover; really, what's the point if it's digital? (And I bet they weren't even signed with those people's public keys.)
I'm regretting paying for it now that it seems like there's nothing new except for a signature that isn't even real. I hope there's at least a making of video otherwise what's the point?
Another part of Season 2 that will probably turn out to be a let down, I guess
The way the product description reads, I wouldn't get my hopes up. I'll reserve final judgement when I receive my DVDs, but it sounds like Telltale dropped the special-edition ball. Again.
They've been downhill since about TWD Season 1. They stopped making physical merchandise and pretty much halted sales of everything except for digital downloads; they used to sell all kinds of neat things, like the Sam & Max OST CDs, and t-shirts, and shot glasses, and some neat special editions (Granted, most everything in them was flat).
Later, they introduced this confusing, user-hostile website, which had a bunch of broken features upon release; even years later I still have no idea how to enumerate my private messages, sent or received; and the Jurassic Park Special Edition bonus materials still have not been re-added to the Jurassic Park entry in my account. Yes, we get it; you put a lot of time, effort, and probably money into getting this new site running, but you really should have cut your losses and reverted to the old software.
They never released their own TWD Season 1 special edition DVD, which confused me greatly (it was the first season of any game they didn't bother to do that for), and now it sounds like they've half-assed the TWD Season 2 and TWAU special edition DVDs.
Telltale Games, I am disappointed in you; you seem to have forgotten the little things that made your company special, which has soured your customer experience.
I didn't expect anything after getting what I paid for (ie the episodic digital downloads) so I'm happy to get any physical copy for free + shipping. €8.25 for both TWD2/TWAU, rock on!
More or less what I was thinking when I got the email last night.
I'm also somewhat irritated that the cover art has the ESRB crap on it, too. After all, one of the perks of buying from Telltale was you didn't have a case littered with publisher/ESRB/marketing blurbs all over it, but then again, it's not like it's the wicked awesome Steve Purcell cover art we had with Sam & Max season 1 and 2 either, so...
But yeah, if they're just slapping the downloads on a disc and throwing on a "digitally signed" cover.....Kinda shows where Telltale's priorities are these days. Cheap, easy and technically meeting their promise of a "bonus" DVD.
Used to love the DVDs they stuffed with the website shorts (which they don't do anymore), outtakes/bloopers (animated in engine, even!), producer commentaries, SEPARATE commentaries from Bay Area Sound on the music/sound design, etc...
I dunno.,...With the ESRB rating and if it has a UPC on it...Kinda feels like it's something they're producing for retail after they fulfill the "free except shipping" copies.
More good news for you; it looks like the discs we're getting are DVD-Rs: http://www.telltalegames.com/community/discussion/86497/my-collector-s-dvd-burned-in-the-mail-mod-edit-not-a-literal-burn
