You can't censor what people say on the internet. Its a never ending job that will never be done, you might as well master the concept of not engaging discussions you find offensive. Just my opinion.
Words only have the effect others give them. Someone could call me the worst names, threaten to do the worst thing to me, tell me to kill myself in the worst ways, but until their words have precedence that's all they are... words. If I don't want them to mean anything to me then by God Gorge they won't mean anything to me.

Telling people they should kill themselves.
And
Telling people you want to fuck them or making other unwanted sexual comments.
And
Threatening people.

I was afraid to post because of the down vote button, I posted two comments in Nov. 2013 and got attacked with down votes and got bullied of… moref the site. I was lurking of awhile, but Last year these forums were a mess. I started commenting several months ago as soon as the down vote button was removed.
So, the down vote button was pretty much gave the trolls power, and I didn't like it. I kept lurking until the button was removed. I didn't want to feel like garbage when I posted so I just waited.
Edit: Yes, nobody would actually engage in discussion because of that devil button.

Personally, I kind of miss the down votes. They served their purpose when someone was being an asshole just for the hell of it. I only got frustrated with the down vote button when it was being abused, meaning when people would down vote just because they didn't like your opinion/argument, or didn't know how to respond to said opinion/argument. Honestly, if you're going to disagree with someone, at least have the guts to say why instead of down voting anonymously like a sissy.

Markdown isn't nearly as versatile, and it's bothersome to see people try to post hashtags while ending up with large text.
