My Collector's DVD Burned in the Mail?! [Mod edit: Not a literal "burn"]

edited November 2014 in The Walking Dead

Apparently my package was burned.

Does anyone know if it really means burned or if this is some kind of USPS lingo.

Comments

  • I don't what it means, but I doubt they burned it, lol.

  • No idea but I'm going to guess...

The USPS mail truck crashed in the middle of the wilderness, the mailman had to make a fire to stay warm till help arrived, your collector DVD saved a life...

  • I think they mean "burned the disc" as in they are storing the content onto a previously blank disc. That's the terminology they use.

  • LOL that sucks

  • I got a better idea, the DVD was sucked into a parallel dimension in which it's mistaken for the ring from "LOTR" and it's cast into the volcano, but before it's destroyed it ends up in our world again, to which they find it's been severely burned.

  • ...Ya know what? Forget my post below where I explain what "burning" a disc means. I like your explanation better, if only for the mental image. ;)

  • Or...A giant lava monster attacked the post office and as the mail man was about to escape he did his sovereign duty to deliver that mail. He ran in screaming "Nor rain, nor sleet, nor even giant lava monster will stop me from delivering this MAIIIII-"...Then he died. His package was then destroyed in the lava.

  • Yes, this is the case. They are going through CustomCD, Inc., which appears to be a company that burns and ships discs. I knew the TWD Season 2 and TWAU Signature things are an afterthought, but I was expecting at least a pressed disc; I am not excited about this release at all.

It should be noted that this isn't a first for Telltale, as their Bone discs were shipped on recordable discs as well. It's also not uncommon in the game industry (for example all of the disc based games by RedSpotGames are also on recordable discs).

They're actually pretty nice, as the art on the disc for both The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us, as well as the Bone discs aren't just labels despite them being on recordable discs. The discs that are made this way in a commercial format are also more reliable than those that you can make yourself. The commercial recordable discs are estimated to last about 100 years (as opposed to 20-50 for most common recordable discs or 200 for pressed discs), so longevity shouldn't be an issue.

  • Perhaps you're correct about the DVD-Rs not being an issue, but I just got my copies and can confirm that the discs only contain the games; at least the Bone CDs had the soundtracks and some extras.
