The Colours Of The Cabin
My god. My damn god. I have to admit, though the writers come under a lot of critiscm, this is perhaps one of the smartest things I've seen them do.
Okay so I was watching Breaking Bad, remembering the fascinating colour scheme they used on characters in scenes, to represent certain things and I found something.
Pete, is a man who wears a dark green coat. Green is a colour that shows growth, but also self-reliance. Which is true, he doesn't tend to rely on others for certain things. He goes and does things himself. However it bears the negative connotation of possesivness, which is also true as he seems to bear this over Nick.
Speaking of Nick, he wears a black shirt, and black is a common colour that symbolizes grief. Something that Nick tends to feel a lot after the traumatic events, he endured.
Concerning Sarah, she wears a blue jacket, which represents her intelligence, and is used to symbolize sincerity, something that Sarah does quite a lot.
Rebecca wears a grey coat, and even has a grey confederate coat later in the game, the closest I can find is silver, which represents fluid, emotional and even sensitivity which occurs to Rebecca and could symbolise her pregnancy.
Luke wears brown, a friendly yet serious down-to-earth type of colour which also represents the need to love, care, protect and secure. All these traits are shown with how Luke treats Clementine and other people (in general).
Carlos is a tricky one, however I decided upon red. (He has red stripes and red cubes on his shirt) - Red is a colour which symbolises anger, a trait shown by Carlos through how he can treat Clementine, and Kenny. However it also shows passion and desire, and in this case, Carlos shows a passion for Sarah (as his daughter) and desire to keep her safe from the world around her.
Alvin wears yellow, a hopeful colour usually placed with knowledge (though not to the extent of blue, and it makes sense as he was a teacher) whilst also suggesting impatience (Something he displays for Carver and at times Rebecca) and at times cowardice (Shown in All That Remains, but opposed in In Harms Way)
Are there any that I've missed out? I hope not. Though this may not be the writers' interpretations, it's fun to see how the colours may reflect off the characters. A really fantastic thing (if it was done purposely by writers) and what other characters display these sort of traits through their colours?
Comments
I think a bunch of people did the same things with names.
Love your connections with the colors btw.
Grey was the color of the Confederacy.
No fucking wonder I love Pete so much, holy shit.
Ah, my mistake. Fixed.
Man...this made realise how much I miss the Cabin group.
Cabin group was better than the rest of the cast of characters given to us during S2.
Pray the CABIN GROUP
They were. To think I disliked most of them in the first episode. Now I´m wishing they were all alive.
EDIT: Someone´s reply to me was eaten. I´ve got some witchcraft around me today.
Yeah, I hated Nick in the first episode, but when I saved him I really stared liking his character in the shed.
Been one of my favorite character's ever since.
I hated Nick and Rebecca, disliked Sarah and Carlos and liked Luke and Pete. Alvin was okay. He did give me a juicebox.
By episode 2 I already liked them all. Good times.
I always thought Nick wore a blue shirt. And Luke wore an orange one.
The trouble I had with Nick was in some occasions his shirt appeared black whilst in others it was very dark blue. I couldn't really find a dark blue colour meaning and most of Nicks "vital" moments happen in the dark. So I decided black.
With Luke, it's a very dark orange and even so it looks brown to me. But orange can represent Luke well. It symbolises energy, joy and optimism.
Interesting interpretation can be found in every work of art. Nice job
You know, this reminded me of a detail someone mentioned. Nick's pants have changed colour when you find him zombified, I wonder if that means anything?
Green could symbolise his closeness to Pete, how the implications of Pete and his teachings lasted upon Nick. That was until his death, until his pants become grey. A colour that commonly represents depression.
In other words it could imply, Pete and his memory kept Nick going however when he became a walker, he lost all hope in life (well he was dead) and everything in itself, so much so he was trapped and succumbed to his own depression, even in death.
It means the real Nick is still out there.
Blue represents innocence, which Sarah definitely is. Clem's purple outfit also gets covered with a blue rainbow jacket once she reaches Howe's.
The clothing colors might have been intentional, but to me it just seems more like a big coincidence :P
On a side note, I read the title and thought this was a 'Colors of the Wind' parody xD
Alvin was a teacher?
wat
I believed they said somewhere in A House Divided that he was a teacher, but I may be wrong. If so, just leave that part out. He is knowledgeable at least, I mean he does know French.
I accept this theory.
Alvin knows French?
I'll repeat what was said above: wat
lol I get it!
What if telltale is no kill?
What if telltale is colorblind?
What if makes no sense?
"Pardon my french" is a common phrase, and is not meant to be taken literally.
It's another version of saying "pardon my language" after you swear.
i like this.
Denial in its most purist form is the most beautiful thing I've seen since the Thames.
Clementine wears purple because of her royality, loyality, void and no fear.
Carver wears brown because he's a piece of shit
It all makes sense now
He said "It's fucking crazy, pardon my French".
It's 'cuz he's a nerdy guy who likes kids. As far as this Season's writing goes, that's the most we'll ever get about his backstory. :P
In Russell's story, he mentions travelling with "Badass Steve", along with "a teacher and his wife" and "this guy and his daughter." It makes me wonder if, at one point, the group that Russell was a part of would have had a role in Season 2. I like to think that Russell knew Alvin and Sarah.
I know this isn't a conspiracy theory, but the mindset is the same. You're finding patterns where there aren't any.
It was a fake Nick all along.
The real Nick is with another group while getting his shoulder treated. nick4season3
That's a pretty hot looking cosplayer, then.
I get it. Haha
... Harj was being sarcastic.
o_o
Not really since the shitbirds of the game wore blue and purple.
Okay well in all honesty, Alvin does strike me as a somewhat reasonable and intelligent man.
It's an interpretation. If you can justify a reasonable interpretation, then it's fine. Since when am I not allowed to do this? The whole forum has had threads filled to the brim of interpretations, since the Season ended, and good ones at that.
Also, no. The characters were certain clothing with certain colours. Those colours have certain attributes. Those attributes match the character in some cases. Done. There are no patterns to find, it's just your interpretation.
