Why the aversion to the idea of returning characters?
Many threads have been posted suggesting the possibility of other returning cast members from season 1, and just as many replies have been posted shooting the idea down.
I can understand why some fans are still resentful about Kenny's role in season 2 (personally, I'm not one of them) but if the Telltale can come up with a well-conceived part for someone like Lily or Christa to play in season 3, why do we always have to dismiss the notion with so much cynicism?

I know right! I think its a great idea to bring characters back. However, here's the answer. It's the internet, where I it exists, it will be complained about.
It could be possible that Clem meets up with Christa, if you're at Wellington. Edith didn't know her, but maybe she makes it after Clementine does. Also, if you're alone. There's a possibility you can meet up with Lilly. Considering she was alone last time Clem saw her. I personally don't think that'll happen but, it's possible.
I think Kenny should be the only one to return. If they did return someone else, dont have the next time making people know someone will appear. Imagine the reactions to Kenny's return if we didnt know Kenny had a chance of coming back at all
People, like myself, are just hesitant about it because of how the cabin group was pushed to the side after episode 2 and Kenny became the main focus. The cabin group had great development before they brought him back, people like Nick, Pete, and even Luke had some great moments, but when Kenny came back, despite my love for him, future writers decided to focus solely on Kenny and not on the cabin group. If Breckon were to write the whole next season (which he won't), then maybe they can bring someone back, but I would like it to be towards the end so it doesn't take the focus off of anyone. Breckon, in the episodes he wrote, found a good balance between Kenny and the other characters, but the other writers didn't really achieve that.
Another reason though is because you don't always meet up with people you may know. Either Sean Ainsworth or Dennis Lenart said it in an interview with IGN that the reason that Clem didn't meet up again with Christa was because you don't always find the people you know, which is completely right. It was a miracle to find Kenny again, but if they were to do it again, it would be very unrealistic. The only way it would feel good is if we meet up with Christa at Wellington because that was where they were going in the beginning of the season, but since not everyone went to Wellington, we probably won't see her again.
It's better to forget the past and bring in new characters and allow them to develop and let us become attached to these new characters. If future installments of the game keep trying to make it feel like Season 1 by bringing back old characters, then they are going to fail. The writers need to move forward and Breckon needs to take this series, since it is now fully in his hands, in the direction he so desires. He should write it the way he wants to write it, not the way Vanaman would write it.
You know, the whole running into Kenny thing doesn't make much sense if you get the Ben scenario and the fact that Kenny doesn't explain it doesn't help, so if they can do that to Kenny, why not Christa?
Oh wait, that's right, Kenny has more followers than Christa and is a fan favorite, while Christa had alot more potential in the story, Telltale were just more interested in Kenny than Christa, and that's not good in any fashion, so they'll just say that it would be unrealistic for Christa, but not for Kenny, because Kenny is awesome. -_-
I'm not saying I'm defending how they reintroduced Kenny (I got lucky really isn't much of a reason or an explanation), but one has to remember the original plan in Season 1 was to kill Kenny. Gavin Hammon himself said he had recorded himself being killed, but Vanaman decided to take it out. The decision obviously came as they were wrapping up production of Season 1, but they couldn't go back and change how Kenny was separated, so they kept it the way it was, even though the likelihood of him escaping was unlikely. Had they actually went back and changed it, they probably would have changed it around to make the situation a little more likely that he was alive than the result we got.
I think it's just unrealistic.
I'm definitely not arguing with you on that point. Kenny's return was a HUGE moment in the series, whether you were for or against it, but there's no denying they were stretching the franchise's credibility to the breaking point, and they were just able to pull it off, thanks mostly to the writing and the performances. (I'll admit the "I got lucky" line was a little weak, but I'm guessing they were just pressed for time.)
But now that Telltale has spent that nickel, seeing another old character make a comeback wouldn't necessarily have the same electrical charge Kenny's did, which is why I agree the idea should always be approached with extreme care. If season 3 has a new cast of characters who are just as fascinating and memorable in their own right, by all means, let them have the spotlight.
Just about everything in the game is unrealistic.
