Maybe it's just me, but I actually liked them together. They had a rapport, of sorts.
Sorry in advance for the gushing, but--
I liked Jane and Luke together too! Ohh I never see anyone who actually thinks this way! I could imagine them being really cute together. Yes, Luke approached Jane because he was intrigued by her, but Jane was clearly upset about Arvo and Sarah--who reminded her of Jaime--when Luke found her, as she had been on the verge of tears right before. So poor Lukey must've noticed this and tried to comfort her, though I'm sure she wasn't having it, and she just tried to brush him off and probably just made the offer instead.
But even though there was "no time for kissing" and probably not much time for talking either, the two must've noticed how similar they were to each other--1) they both wanted to keep Clem safe and cared for her like a sister (even though Jane's sister-interaction with Clem is rushed, it is there grr, it's just not nearly as prominent as Luke's); 2) they both couldn't convince a young person they cared about to keep living on, no matter how they tried (Sarah for Luke and Jaime for Jane); and 3) they both tended to keep at least some of their emotions hidden away (Luke didn't share his fears or worries with Clem until ep 5 and tried to be the optimistic laughy leader in the earlier episodes who showed no fear, probably because he wanted to stay strong for the rest of his group, while Jane of course barely showed her positive or vulnerable emotions, as she didn't want to appear weak to anyone and probably believed this could be a detriment to survival). So there were similarities between them and there was reason for them to jump one another; it didn't just come out of nowhere like some people think.
And yes, their rapport...I like to think that Luke would often be goofy in trying to raise their spirits, and Jane'd just look at him all -.- like, "You're such a dork. But you're a cute dork," XD and whether she wanted him to or not, he would just melt her cold personality, encouraging her to open up and re-embrace her humanity again.
If there was ever a character that could forgive Jane for her sins, it would've been Luke. And dammit, even if lots of fans can't forgive her, Luke certainly would've forgiven her, and not just for more physical reasons. T.T So there, Luke-fans-who-hate-Jane, I said it. Be as good as Luke could've been, if you dare!
lol, I just think it's pretty interesting how seemingly insignificant sex, can form those types of feelings, in the za. Glenn and Maggie sta… morerted banging because of pure luck. He just grabbed anything he could get and it just happened to be condoms. But they (or at least Maggie) didn't start to feel those types of feelings until faced with death. Same can be said for Luke and Jane. Luke went up to talk to Jane because he was intrigued by her, and Jane was probably dtf. When Kenny berates him for it, he brushes it off by saying he enjoyed, one little thing. But after getting shot, he had clarity. And after he died, Jane actually felt his death. Saying how she knew it would happen and she shouldn't have come back, while, mildly crying. Maybe it's just me, but I actually liked them together. They had a rapport, of sorts.

No I didn't take it the wrong way
I was just complimenting what you said because it's completely true. I agree that people can't beat others up because they have different interests or opinions
Oh, I wasn´t accusing you, sorry if it sounded like it. I was speaking generally, it happens a lot around here.
Wish people could always be civil, this shows how much it can help, really. It´s refreshing to see!
I'm only just seeing this now because I haven't been checking this as much since I wrote my newer post, because you and a few others had already cleared up my "Luke issues"
But your comments are always great so I feel I need to acknowledge them hahah.
I agree with pretty much everything you say in this post!
But I do what to chime in on this because I've been thinking about it a lot and did talk about it a bit in my grilling post that I did. It's to do with the whole Jane replacing Luke as a deuteragonist.
Choosing between Kenny and Luke would've felt more like picking between family
I feel for this reason that this is why Telltale may have cut Luke and replaced him with Jane. It's pretty well known in this community that Kenny's character causes a 50/50 ratio of people who either love or hate Kenny, completely depending on how you interacted with him in Season 1. Because he was a well fleshed out character and his choices vary greatly in how he reacts to Lee. His either very loyal or a major asshole. Which is great because you can always get different experiences with Kenny in Season 1.
I feel that because there is such an even split, it may have made the ending particularly too easy to choose if it did happen to be a Kenny VS Luke. Because Luke is such a good guy it would have made Kenny haters have an easier decision in the end. Whereas people who love Kenny may have been a little torn between deciding between the two and would've gotten the most out of the "tough situation" experience that Clementine was going through.
Now we all know about the god awful Jane VS Kenny threads that never ends because it's up to personal opinion, and because there are more similarities between Kenny and Jane compared with Luke, it would have made it tougher for more players to choose. And just looking at those comments on the Kenny VS Jane thread just proves how un-debatable that whole subject is. The comments are basically all the same but just switched with one of their names...
"I liked (Jane/Kenny) because (she/he) really cared for Clementine. I hated (Jane/Kenny) because (she/he) was cold and ruthless".
Honestly, it works both ways for each character. I feel that the end choice was made tougher because of these similarities in the characters, but they both managed to pull off different personalities and ideas about survival.
Now if it was Kenny VS Luke then it would have been a decision based on how much emotional attachment you have to Kenny, especially after the way he treats Arvo (as much as I didn't like Arvo), because like people have mentioned - Luke didn't even want to kill Carver...
So I feel that the majority would have chosen Luke, even people who love Kenny, because he was a nicer guy.
I would have found it interesting if they didn't introduce Jane and worked more on Luke's character and made him become colder as the season progressed.
It would have made a very interesting finale, because you'd have to make a choice based on sentimental value and who you believe still has a "goodness" inside of them.
But I think the idea of Luke being written to eventually form into someone like that may not sit well with a lot of fans.
I mostly blame Jane since she offered, but why would Luke accept. I know it's the apocalypse and pretty much the only thing to do is just se… morex... But it wasn't exactly the best time. It just threw me off because it was really out of character for Luke (well at least the character Telltale tried to portray rather inconsistently). I know it was to make a statement that "Oh man this worlds so shit, good guys screw up (no pun... actually yeah, pun) but like I said. It was just an extremely dramatic change in Luke. We can say that he just lost his whole group but he had already lost his family. Maybe Nick was just that awesome. I get the idea that there's only so much loss a person can take, but usually at that point they want to die... not have sex. Sort of see my issue here..? I'm just trying to flesh out my thought process so you can understand how I think.
I try to think of it like this: maybe Luke just hadn't had sex in ages! XD
We … [view original content]
I think the way I was playing it, I honestly thought that whole series of events starting with the show photo option actually had importance in relation to the decision.
Yeah, that was really meaningless writing. Thanks for clearing that up.
It didn't really influence players at all, because showing the photo to Nick has no influence on what happens when you confront Walter. I di… moredn't show Nick the photo in my first playthrough, but I still told Walter the truth about Matthew, and then Nick comes out and still tells the truth, which I think could indicate that Luke does eventually tell him if you don't, or it was actually an oversight by Telltale. Plus the majority of people still told Walter Nick was a good person, so it didn't sway many (if any) people to not save Nick, so Luke in no way had any influence.
Whether or not Nick is saved is up to you as the player, nothing else factors into it. I think you might be a bit confused about how the choice worked, because the only thing that causes Nick to die is telling Walter he's a bad person, nothing else. But for the most part, yes, the whole showing Nick the photo or not is pretty pointless... just like almost all the choices this season.
No I didn't take it the wrong way

Luke was always a 'meh' for me, because I didn't really get what he was there for and what his purpose was. He was kind of a boring character as Telltale never really established why he was such a good guy, instead they just rammed the idea of him being a good guy guy down our throats. But episode 4.... I kind of exploded.
If you cast your minds back to episode 4 (if you actually saw me post around that time) to put it bluntly I was quite pissed. In my game, Nick died on a fence a couple of hours before and the only reaction we got out of Luke was a 'Fuck...'. Wow. Nick was your friend for 20 damn fucking years and that's all you have to say, Luke? That part was just build up to what made me very pissed.
Luke had sex with Jane.
What I found wrong with this was;
Nick died and Luke got blinded by the V
Luke was supposed to be watching out for walkers, since he wasn't there, that meant the group got ambushed
Rebecca was PREGNANT and he thought it was a good time to do some fucking while a woman is ready to have her baby
Priorities, Luke. Priorities.
Ultimately, I found this the indirect cause of Sarah's death.
After a while though, my hate began to mallow out a bit and found that I could forgive Luke for fucking Jane. It wasn't the best time.. He probably should've done it at another stage but whatever.
In episode 5 he actually showed potential! And guess what? He died!
Overall, the idea of Luke and what he was supposed to be was great! The portal and the way Telltale handled him was not. He will always be either a meh or a 'you're cool' in my eyes.
Sorry I found that a bit difficult to read. I'm not sure if it's just how you've explained but, you mean having the 50/50 split thing would'be been a bad idea? o.o it's just that kind of the deal with these kind of decisions and what Telltale aims for, where they don't want you to lean more to one more than the other so people have different opinions to the choices they make. That's the issue that came up with Carley and Doug in Season 1 because despite setting up the useful things these characters can do, more people went with Carley. That's probably what I really liked the first time we had that decision in Season 2 with Nick and Pete, where it was close to middle ground and rightly so. Pete is the guy who seems nice and in the beginning Nick came across as a loose cannon, yet Pete is the one who is bitten, do you still run to him or go with Nick? I was really stuck for choice at the time, I remember I picked Nick and then I ended up redoing my choice and going for Pete [I even made a joke out of in a parody video series thing i really gotta finish someday, but yeah, that was a character decision done well XD]
Fans equally had their opinions on Kenny and Luke and that's why I believe it would've worked. Jane just really didn't do anything for me in reasons I said before where I feel that she came in too late into the story and didn't understand all of what Clem had gone through to make that connection more solid, where as Luke did and was present through the entire of Season 2. Jane and Kenny had too much the same deal going on and the choice I wanted to give my Clementine just felt like it didn't matter anymore. We say Luke is good, but in reality neither Kenny or Luke are bad, they're both right in a way, because there can be different ways to surviving in that world and that would've made for an interesting debate rather than 'how far do you go to stick by Kenny'. A lot of people argued Kenny took up too much time and I do agree with that in a way, but maybe because we just had The Last of Us come out in recent years and it just felt too similar to that having this Joel type character that Kenny had become and putting that much attention on him. Or maybe it was just the lack of added attention on the other characters with less hubs around to talk to them that it just gives this illusion, who knows.
Remember the whole dinner scene and who to sit with? Even though more people went for Kenny, fans were really caught between the two on what to do[I first watched this episode online and even just watching I really was in a state of 'oh crap who should this player go with!?'] Even though I leaned more in Luke's favor, first time I eventually went to play it, I went for Kenny because of the same reason I think many others did, in that we haven't seen Kenny in a long time and you want to have some time for Clem to catch up with her old friend. For me, it's not anything to do with how attached I am are to Kenny, because both characters Kenny and Luke were important, and many of the decisions subtle or not felt like that's where it was going, that it was setting something big up and why it made the whole thing so good.
But I am serious, if I'd had to pick between them, it'd of been a nightmare for me. Because the way I saw it, Kenny and Luke were two different paths for Clem to take for her and A.J, and Jane and Kenny's were too much of the same thing when it comes to survival and I didn't feel like I had a choice at all. I kinda compare it to The Matrix decision, it's two blue pills, not one blue and one red pill. So cutting the one consistent thing within the game for shock value kinda did it in for me, and what eventually had my enjoyment out of this Season and excitment for Season 3 being shoot in the foot...with a nuclear warhead ಠ_ಠ
That opinion differs for everybody, but for me I just couldn't care in the end because the finale seemed a mess to me. Although I have to be honest and say I didn't look at the Jane/Kenny thread. I was too ticked off at the time to look at them and for reasons above I just didn't spark anything with me, because it's Lilly and Kenny fighting all over again. But people arguing over favorite characters, I think it's a normal thing to happen in fandoms, it's not just TWDG that gets that. Even before hand, there were Kenny vs Luke threads all the time.
Your suggestion though is really a cool idea, if Jane hadn't been introduced and Luke becoming colder. Perhaps it would've been more with him having to face up to the fact there are times where he'd have to take a human life and pretty much harden up as a character. He could've still kept his morals sort, of to where at least he didn't turn violent like Kenny, but that would've made for interesting character development especially when he's questioning episode 4 on worrying if the group will end up doing things like Kenny.
But I'm sorry I'm going a little bit now v.v maybe it's just this killing everybody off thing is really getting old to me [at least people last longer in the tv series]. I don't even like that Kenny and Jane are determinant because I personally would've liked to have seen them come back too.

So why are you Sheriff?
"ABigBadWolf".
