Will Clementine Play Well With Others?

I noticed that Clementine is very different from other kid survivors. She's some what a center piece of all of her group's plans. In her travels, she kills many walkers, uses a gun , and she haves to do things that she isn't really proud of. Unlike most kids, she haves to do most of this alone, without a guardian, making her a somewhat cold and mature than most kids her age.

Let's say , in Wellington, that she notices kids playing and talking as if the world isn't overrun-ed by the dead. All of the kids of the community are spoiled and bored to the point that they talk about how boring it is to live in Wellington. And when she eats with her new found friends, one of them complains how bad the food taste and wastes food.--How do you think Clementine would get along with such kids?--

In the first few weeks, Clementine will probably wouldn't want to play with anyone and just keep to herself, cooping for what she just been through. She would probably be the odd one out, seeing that she always appeared being alone, possibly being victim of a bully because of her oddness. Also, she would probably have a lot of pinned up frustration in her. She would most likely get into fights.

--What do you guys think? I'm just a Business Major, not Child's Psychology.--

  • I don't think Clementine can get along with other kids anymore. I mean look at the Jane ending, if you let the family in it seems like Clem doesn't know how to react to Gills compliment.

I think she forgot how to be a kid.

  • I'm curious how the friendship of those two will work out.

all of this is pretty much explored with carl in the comic when they first get to alexandria carl does not get along with any of the kids there at all and he doesn't act like a kid anymore either i would assume clem may be the same

  • This idea would have been great to explore in Season 2 with the appearance of Sarah (and potentially Becca and Gill) since they're kids near Clementine's age. Since we have a child protagonist, this would have been a interesting outlook on how kids behave in a zombie apocalypse without using them as foils to Clementine and her hyper competence.

Sadly we all know how this ended up in the end.

  • I don't think she would get into fights but she would definitlely not play with the other children. At this point Clem is an adult in a child's body and after all the horrors she went through, I think playing games would seem silly to her. And she spent so much time with adults around her that she is now more used to them than children. What could happen is Clem meeting another child like her that has been through an equal amount of pain and they would become friends because they would both understand each other.

  • I can just imagine Clem in the situation where they threw out the food.

"Guys, I had no fucking food for 2 years. I haven't had a proper meal since I was 8, before all this happened. Imagine not having anything to eat day after day after day after day! I had to sacrifice my food for the well being of others. Maybe if I was lucky I would get a fucking can of beans every 6 months, but other than that, I starved. So sit down and eat your fucking food! Enjoy it before its gone! Don't waste it. Maybe I don't want to be in wellington after all." picks up her empty plate of food and walks away

At least, that would be my Clem, because she's the sass queen, unless she's talking to anyone in the cabin group or Kenny, then she's nice :3

  • I honestly think Clem wouldn't "play" anymore. Knowing how things always go to shit she'll be on the edge of her seat all the time.

Kid: I'm bored it's so boring in Wellington

    Clementine: BITCH SLAP

    Clem: What are you doing?

    Friend: I taste so bad-

    Clem: Can I have it

Bully push Clementine: Haha little girl

    Clem: Stop that!

    Bully: Or wha-

    Teacher: Clem what's the answer?

Clem: I don't know? I'm realy bad with math

Edith: What a cute little baby you have there and also Clem I have a little girl just like you

    Clem:... Bonnie

    Edith: What?

    Clem: Nothing

But I'm realy interested how it will work out if she is around another child and for example in the alone ending if she meets somebody she probably will think. ''The will just die or betray me later'' I don't know but it will be interesting

  • I think I discussed this with Sialark at one point, and I've even thought of it myself. Clementine might find it difficult with going back to being a kid again without doing much of the lifesaving ZA stuff like when she was by herself or with other groups. I'd expected though [and this is something Sialark mentioned too] that there would probably be some kids that are like Clementine who've gone through some serious crap, but then there might be some who haven't and have been in Wellington from the start. So like you described, these particular kids haven't been outside and find being trapped there boring rather than a blessing that many would view it from being on the outside.

That said Clementine's probably gone through more than most kids have and few would understand or have lost as many friends or family as she has. So it could be like you say in that Clem would be the odd one out, even if going to school and being a kid again is something she's wanted, Clem might be unable to or at least struggle to blend right in and makes friends with other children at first because she's had higher responsibilities, like at the end of Season 2 having a little brother to look out for. I seriously doubt she'd take much crap from any bullies though. She'd probably knee them with the trick Jane taught her and give them hell so they never bother her again XD

I think it's still possible for her to make friends with kids her age, just that would take a while like you said. But it is possible though too that even if she does make friends, Clem might never get that childhood of hers back, not completely, and she could very well feel frustrated if she's not able to do anything useful to like the adults are when it comes to defending Wellington or anything like that...[secretly takes more notes for fanfic] hehehe...

Clementine i would imagine would become a uncaring asshole eventually, after losing everyone you care about, you stop caring, you don't let yourself get close to people because you know they'll abandon you. She is going to become bitter, dark, resentful person, who only cares about her own survival. Everything else is second.

Video of Clementine LOLOLOL (if you haven't seen this watch it.)Pyscho Dog Guy

  • I honestly think Wellington Clem may end up becoming someone like this.

This sort of situation has been explored on in the comics to an extent with Carl Grimes and the children of Alexandria. Would pretty much be Tell-tale looking into the comics during this time and creating their own version of the same scenario with different people as to not completely copy cat. Like with the Hunters from the comics and the St. John's at the dairy farm. Both were presented basically as family/group cannibals. Just in the game they were remixed into different people with similar behaviors executed differently.

  • Clementine would love school, though. Maybe after 2 years living there, she'll become a mini Eugene/nerd just dedicating her time just learning new survival skills, spending most of her time just reading.

I would be cool after the time skip, she's using Sarah's glasses to read and is talking about solar energy in her class.

  • Wouldn't they interview her first? I think they knew what Clementine knows, they would probably assign her to be a jr constable, like a jr officer, who looks after the young and acts as a spy in the community. No one would think that Clementine is telling the Leader about the crime in the community. She is a little girl neighbor hood watch type person, making sure that their isn't anything foul going on in the community. And no one would expect a little girl to be a spy.

I think this would make for a interesting first episode and be a good sneak peek of some of the civil problem that may occur in the community.

  • Is there a secret ending where you end up reading with Walter because it sounds like you got her there, I don't know about your Clem but my Clem would not do that, the only way my Clem would like school is if Lee taught her like he said he would. :3

I don't have to worry about that because I'm with Kenny.

But in all seriousness, this is a very interesting topic because we've seen how the apocalypse has affected Clem's mentality. She's an adult in a child's body, she has lost all sense of what it's like to be a kid, and while that's sad to listen to, it's also an advantage of hers. Everyone underestimates her because of this, but she is mentally stronger than people think. Her abandoning her childlike instincts and becoming a young adult has helped her survive and see the world for what it is truly is. The kids you have as an example have no idea how serious the threat is outside, Clem knows first hand because she's lived in that world for 2 years, and that's her advantage. I doubt Clem can ever regain that sense of being a kid because of everything she has seen, it would be very unrealistic for her to shake it all off and abandon who she has become. So I guess that she would not get along with the other kids but would find herself interacting more with the adults, and could eventually find herself a leading member of Wellington as a result of her experience despite her young age.

Also, no way will Clem tolerate the bullying. If she was being bullied, she would most likely do something about it, she's not the girl that would just let someone get away with that, especially if they were talking about someone like her parents or Lee (especially Lee). But it's definitely conflicting to say how she would handle it because she's not necessarily a fighter (she's never instigated a fight nor has she ever seen to have the interest in starting one) or one to have someone else handle her problems for her. I guess that kind of decision would lie with the player, and for me, I would kick my bullies ass until he or she learned not to mess with me.

  • She tells Luke that she would like to go to College one day.

If she became good friends with one of the leader people there I guess that is possible, but I doubt they'd assign her to the job just like that. I think it'd be more like a request and only if they trusted her.

Fast forward to 2:37. That'll pretty much be the general opinion of Clementine amongst the people of Wellington.

  • I think she will. I just think it takes her a little more time to trust other people. Like with Luke. She was being relatively a kid before they met up with Kenny. I think with Sarah, she wanted to protect her, more than anything. I think if she finds a kid her age that can actually protect themselves, they'll get along great.

  • I know for sure. That she would share her knowledge about zombie camo.

  • Well in the zombie apocalypse you can't just be a certain age anymore, you're either living or you're dead, either living strong or as a liability and either dead and walking or just dead.

I don't think Clementine can get along with other kids anymore. I mean look at the Jane ending, if you let the family in it seems like Clem doesn't know how to react to Gills compliment. I think she forgot how to be a kid.

  • Is it really fair to say she won't get along, I mean you're just assuming that the kids in Wellington aren't like Clementine, that they didn't survive like she did but what if they did?

  • Seeing that Clementine is will be their newest survivor, that means that she been outside the walls longer than anyone in the community, meaning that she may experienced some parts of the outbreak that some people haven't experience, such as, a fall of a major civilize community(Howes).

  • Wouldn't the answer to this question be based on how you play your Clem? The girl has been through some shit yeah, but after the player has been through so many emotional moments in this game, you may think to yourself is it really worth it to get attached to characters again? Hopefully Telltale will test our resolve and give us more sympathetic characters that we can relate to and asshole characters to show that Clem is not to be messed with.

  • I wouldn't know how to react if that Big-headed Bastard complimented my hat either.
